Well, considering there's a 50€ gap between a Premium Wii U and a PS4...I know this doesn't mean much because the two systems are completely different, but on third party software, would you rather use those 50 bucks to buy a game on the Wii U, or buy a PS4?
The Wii U is a great and innovative system, and it could have sold well this year if it had strong third party support. But now that the others are stepping in, we're gonna need a buttload of first party games to put this train back on the rails.
Well, I'm not a good example, because I'm waiting for Sonic Lost Worlds to be out to buy a Wii U :v:
I wouldn't keep my hopes up for a price drop, they're already selling it at a loss as it is. Although I've been wrong before.
I'm not buying one because I don't want to buy a whole new console for another mario game and I already have wind waker for the gamecube.
The 3DS also looked like a flop when it was first out for a while, but the new, highly anticipated, games started coming out and it's picked up steam big time.
I'm sure the same thing will happen with the WiiU.
The only reason I'm holding out is a price cut.
and a bundle with a game people like. No one's going to tough the Wii U at it's current price and lack of bundles.
I've never actually even seen one...
That might be in part because the notion is out there that being seen with a handheld game console instead of a phone is socially unacceptable
I've been to nerd-gatherings/events where I've gotten loads of hits on streetpass but only like one person has their 3DS out instead of their phone
I lost all respect for Nintendo's business model as soon as the original Wii was announced. They went from targeting gamers with great games with great characters and very enjoyable gameplay-driven titles, to targeting seniors who need easy exercise and 8 year olds who like to wave their arms about.

The WiiU seems almost like a step back in the right direction for me, but I'm thoroughly uninterested in what they may have to offer for it.
I feel like they just need to advertise the thing. Wii U doesn't sound like a new console to most people. I don't even think I've seen a commercial for it on TV.
Last time they tried advertising Microsoft sent employees to talk about how great the Xbox One is.
but i love my wii too much.. im using it to watch netflix, hulu, and i play occasional zelda games on it, and the remote isnt so big i have to hold it with 2 hands....
The problem with the Wii U is mostly
A. The name/branding. Sorry, but everyone who isn't fluent in game industry news thinks the Wii U is just a peripheral for the original Wii without much further research. This is a problem when the Wii was extremely popular between its launch until only about 2008-2009 when the "fad" died out. I guaruntee the Wii U would have been much more successful at this point if they went with a completely different product name.
B. It launched too soon, with to little games, and again a lack of 3rd party support.
C. It fills an odd niche most people don't have. It wants to be like the Wii but not make a full stride twoards that direction, it wants to appeal to hardcore sensabilities without making a stride in that direction, and it wants to appeal to the tablet/mobile/touch gamer without making a stride in that direction either. It's a completely unfocused product that simply does it worse than products coming out or already on the market that focus on those 3 different directions.
That said I could easily see in the long term the Wii U really picking up. Imagine in a year or so you have the new consoles out, but then there is this nice really affordable console by Nintendo that you know you can trust because of the name brand. $299, and on top of that with a bunch of games out for it that are all first party and really good. At the same time, they might have a good library of cheaper console games that aren't quite indie but not quite AAA but yet still all really good (like Wonderful 101, assuming that came is actually good). On top of that, Nintendo really pushes advertising on less-recognized features the Wii U does pretty well, like Miiverse and the ability to have you game on the controller while the TV is doing something else. It's a nice safe bet that'll really have a lot of value for people wanting to play good games, its cheap and all the games for it are on average much cheaper than PS4/Xbone, etc.
On top of all of this, they can really start to improve the eShop so it's actually pretty robust, good, and worth the money (i.e. having the entire NES-to-gamecube library available on there for CHEAP would be absolutely killer)
If they do all the above I can really see Wii U taking off in modest but profitable gains in the long term despite a poor start, much like 3DS is now doing. The hard part is... Nintendo execs are all completely obvlious to many of the above factors, and they still don't trust the modern world of the internet and digital distribution, as its a completely alien concept to them. They'll really need to learn the value of putting effort and pride into their eShop, as well as a bunch of other stuff just like they do in their games. But they've proven themselves time and time again that they are pretty out-of-touch with reality when it comes to alternate markets, the internet boom, etc.
I still don't think they'll get a ton of 3rd party support with the above recipie (keeping the PS4/Xbone much more relevant to the hard core crowd that aren't nintendo fans), but with their first party line up and 2nd party partners they won't need to, to the point where it could be pretty feasible for someone to own both a Wii U and PS4/Xbone in the same household just because they both fill a certain niche and culture to them.
I like nintendos games and I have a 3ds, but the last console of theirs I owned was the GC and as much as I would like a Wii U , I can't see myself playing it much :\
Metroid, goddamnit. You're doing almost NOTHING with it. I bought a Wii for Metroid Prime 3 and I'll sure as hell buy a Wii U for another good Metroid game. But please don't let Ninja work on it oh god I couldn't take another Other M.

Metroid doesn't sell well in Japan, it only sells in the west. Sales went down with Other M. Team Ninja isn't to blame for Other M it was the games director who was to blame. he forced them to not use the second controller and wrote the story himself. The Director is Sakamoto. He's literally fallen in love with Samus like the writer of Final Fantasy 13 has fallen in love with Lightning and has no idea how to write for her. Which is funny because he intended on retconning the Prime series but ended up retconning every single Metroid game.
I really want to get a Wii U, but I have a student loan to pay and I've already spent too much on games. Maybe in another month or so...

This is sadly completely true
I can't play my DS/3DS in public without being said something that involves a Game Boy and the lack of interest in other stuff.
I am buying a Wii U but I'm waiting for the 2nd generation to come out. Larger Hard Drive and to work out any kinks that may be there now. And even though the price isn't horrible, I still can't afford it in my current state.
I think WiiU may be the sega dreamcast of this generation
came in far too early, EA won't support this (the same exact thing happened with the dreamcast), XBOX360 tier hardware (yeah they still make games for it but everyone is preset with the new shit on their mind) and came with a handful of games
I don't like seeing nintendo like this but eh
The difference is, though, that the dreamcast was made on the back of the 32X, the SegaCD and the Saturn. The dreamcast was just a final dying breath of a gangrenous company.
By contrast, Nintendo have just come off of the Wii and the DS. And uh, they pulled some pretty fucking convincing numbers, even in comparison to their competitors.
I bought a wii console and 4 controllers for like 70$. The only reason I bought it was to hack it and for my cousins to shut the fuck up when they come to my house
Things that would make me buy a Wii U: Smash Bros, new zelda, new metroid.
if they woulda just launched with those, they would have gotten the results they wanted
but nooooo, they needed more development time :v:

Release a new F-Zero and you've got my money
[editline]14th July 2013[/editline]
Well, when I have money to spare that is. I still need to spend more money on furniture
I'll buy one for a new Zelda game and 3D Metroid
I'd probably buy a WiiU with little question if they released a new Metroid game by Retro Studios.
Sorry Nintendo, I'm simply not interested in a Wii-U. If I could have a Wii-U case that fits standard ATX computer parts I'll buy that, though.
