before you all start making cute clever comments about cyberbulling please make use of your brainpower and think about the kind of abuse this kid took that actually made her kill herself. if you don't know the first thing about people with confidence or self-esteem issues or can't even be bothered to be empathetic then shut the fuck and keep your stupid insensitive comments to yourself you can say it's dumb because it's "just the internet" all you want but remember that nobody reacts to harassment the same way you do and you can't expect them all to just "shrug it off", especially when it comes to people who already have anxiety issues and are prone to depression and similar emotional disorders
Bully them back to show who is boss
what you guys have to understand is that majority of 'cyber-bullying' occurs when bullies irl decide to fuck with you online its easier to ignore fedora neckbeards you'll never meet it's not so when it's real life people you know whose probably spreading all these information to everyone you know and will have to suffer it in real life when you go to school as well

Repeated persistent attacks which the victim has problems getting away from. Cyberbullying is usually more of a problem because the victim can be bullied from websites, texts, phone-calls, emails, etc as opposed to in person. It's harder to escape.
Fair enough. When I think of cyberbullying I just think of some neckbeard calling someone else a faggot over 4chan or twitter or something. I dunno if there's another term for that or not (besides trolling), but yeah, when I talk about ignoring them and getting off the internet, I talk about those kind of people. Anyway, I see how that sort of shit is a problem. My mistake.
cyberbullying =/= being made fun on on the internet most of the time it is irl bullying that is also being done online
Jesus, I don't even know what to say. I can't even comprehend how mentally fucked she'd have to already be at 12 to even think of suicide.
I'm going to hazard a guess and say that there were other factors.
The bullying apparently started with a dispute over a boy that Sedwick had dated for a while, the New York Times reported. According to her mother Tricia Norman, Sedwick received text messages that said things like "You're ugly", "Why are you still alive?" and "Go kill yourself."
It looks like the bullies knew her personally. So she couldn't have escaped them by "just going offline".
people seriously think this shit is funny? wow
The parents carry a good portion of the blame, here.

At one point, the mother had pulled her daughter out of school and transferred her to another, closed down the girl's Facebook page and took away her cellphone.
Its not like they didn't do anything.
At one point, the mother had pulled her daughter out of school and transferred her to another, closed down the girl's Facebook page and took away her cellphone. Things seems to be getting better and Rebecca's spirits seemed to be lifting at her new school. But she also secretly signed on to new apps such as a cellphone message application called Kik Messenger and the bullying resumed, the Times said. In Kik Messenger, Sedwick had changed her user name to "That Dead Girl," the Times said.
Sad, they tried avoiding it and trouble followed her.
Sad, they tried avoiding it and trouble followed her.
it's depressing to see how much some people will go out of their way to make others miserable
Sad, they tried avoiding it and trouble followed her.
Why is it sad that even after all of the effort her parents put to relocate her, she still did a stupid fucking move like install Kik secretly and purposefully, for what? You're asking for it, what an idiot. Her life is apparently going in the right direction at a new school so the best course of action is to... install more meaningless social apps that allow people to bully you? Wow, what a great choice, truly I emphasize with her decision. Parents are idiots too, at the slightest hint of cyber-bullying you should take the smartphone away and give her a brick phone. But the stupid girl would of probably gave everyone her number on her brick phone for more attention and get hateful text messages so she still would of died. Truly, there was no hope for this obviously mentally-ill child. (User was banned for this post ("Trolling / shitposting / dumb" - MaxOfS2D))

This shit didnt happen with MSN. Let's all take the mother fuckin hot tub time machine back to 2004
people seriously think this shit is funny? wow
In all fairness, there are various perceptions on what cyber-bullying is. Being exiled off a single site is less worse than having your personal info plastered on the net for others to attack you further.

She wasn't mentally ill, some people just can't take the pressure, you didn't experience what she experienced, even if you are a victim of bullying, not everyone gets the same treatment. Getting real tired of your shit
In all fairness, there are various perceptions on what cyber-bullying is. Being exiled off a single site is less worse than having your personal info plastered on the net for others to attack you further.
Maybe they should read the actual article before they make jokes about it then? Or even just think through it and realize that people won't be driven to a level of depression where the only option they see is killing themselves just by someone calling them a faggot on some website?
ok ill stop bullshitting YOU'RE A STUPID ASSHOLE, PLEASE EDUCATE YOURSELF ON WHY PEOPLE COMMIT SUICIDE, ONCE AGAIN, YOU STUPID ASSHOLE
Alright, since you're obviously more proficient in this field than I am, please educate me as to why Rebecca committed suicide, and why I should feel bad and not think it is her fault? (to clarify why is it not her fault that she committed suicide, implying that it is the bully's fault).
what
it's the same logic idiots use to justify rape, that's how you sound right now think for a second! no one kills themselves for no fucking reason, when a person decides to end their own life it's because what they're going through is so painful and terrible for them that death seems better in comparison. she was just a kid, you can't seriously expect a 12 year old to act rationally in the face of constant harassment when even a large portion of adults also commit suicide for similar reasons you're being mad insensitive here dude [editline]addendum[/editline] if you really want to blame and yell at someone then yell at the shitheels who caused this in the first place: the bullies, don't blame the victim, especially when you know jack shit about what was going through their heads at the moment

"Someone says I suck, better go kill myself" I'd actually take it seriously if the abuse actually went somewhere physical, but its fucking words. Why would you give a damn about what someone else says about you? Negative stuff above all.

Since it's the bully's fault, it's not her fault. Why would you even suggest that it's her fault over the bully? I guess any woman who gets raped just should have stayed home too right, because if she had she wouldn't have been raped?

Jesus fuck, its FP's own version of a fucking overused meme with the most stupid meaning I've ever seen.

They analyze all aspects of their life, focusing heavily on the events that correlate with the attacker's statements. They finally agree with their attacker's claims and kill themselves. You are able to withstand those insults because you disagree with what people claim about your personality.
