Democracy should be everywhere. The problem is thinking our version of democracy is the only one.
We need to lower some budgets if we want to get out of debt. This is a step in the right direction.
We can hope its them. If it is, it'll help those that have been in holding patterns for promotion for some time now.
Not hope, we know - why would the military train these young kids (spending thousands of dollars) just to kick them out shortly afterwards?
Its cool that defense budgets are being trimmed, but thats 100,000 people getting laid off right there.
It's not really specified that people will be laid off in the article.
They might just let 100,000 people retire like normal and not hire any more people back.
Military service looks great on your resume, I doubt they'll be out of a job for long.
1/4th of veterans are homeless
I am pretty sure lulz hit the nail on the head.
They will retire and not replenish 100,000 heads.
I bet you a fucking $1,000 bill from the 1960s that the pay rate of 100k troops don't equal the fucking waste the piece of shit F-35 has cost us
They give them a years pay and honorably discharge them.
The defense budget is still going up guys. :C
And just when I was considering enlisting...
I'm already enlisted and going to basic in August this year. From what I heard, the cuts are mainly going to affect recruitment and not the men and women already in service. Around my recruitment office, they only accept ASVAB scores of 50 or above to even THINK about trying to recruit you. The standards raised so that the people who can join will be smarter and more physically fit than your average high school dropout.
EDIT: Nevermind, I guess they ARE getting discharged. That's sad.

Where do you live? because the recruitment office here for the army is taking a ton of people sub 50.

Florida. It might have something to do with the recruitment rate in my area, or something like that. We've had a large amount of people coming in and only barely getting by with low ASVAB scores and going infantry and other lower level jobs. Or maybe the Army office here is just picky. Either way, jobs are still open in the military, but it's most likely going to get harder to get a job guaranteed with this personnel cut.
I'm going off of what I've been told by a lot of recruiters and soldiers, and what I've personally seen when I was trying to get a job as well.
Well that's stupid, all those soldiers losing their jobs after serving their country. I know some of you will say having a military background on your CV looks great, but thats not always the case.
I was just about to join the military, fuck I really don't have any idea of what I'm gonna do if I can't get in.
Join anyways. If you do better than average you'll have a better chance of staying in
What about the tons of useless federal jobs that are redundant that we waste money on.
How about how the rich pay the lowest taxes.
Alright let us just lay off the men who would have fought for us. Sounds like a plan.
they should have cut way more troops than that before cutting social welfare programs
looks like im getting fucked
-snip-
50 on ASVAB? Really? That is still so low...
I got a 90 on it and I didn't even study. Decided to take it 15 minutes before they started because my cousin was taking it. Recruiters were knocking down my door telling me the average was 15.....FIFTEEN!!!
Example of one of the questions.
If gear A is turning clockwise, which way is gear G turning. (accompanied by a simple graphic)
i was informed that it was a measly 36 for highschool grads
Noones getting laid off they're just not letting the people who didnt get promotions, got into trouble and were dirtbags re-enlist (and probably forcIng people to retire)
That sounds pretty good, but a 100000 soldiers are not much considering the whole American Army. Maybe they should have limited the amount of expensive gear and supplies that are being produced/bought. Although I do not know if that would significantly decrease the efficency of the Army.

Yeah. I don't think it helps that democracy is fairly loosely defined too and seems to be bent to mean different things to provide an advantage in certain situations.

it is more effective to have a small army thats advanced as fuck than to have a large army that just 'cheaps' everything
Yeah, you are probably right.
Our country usually sells some tanks and shit which are obsolete :v:

They've become super picky even for people seeking combat roles. I aced the pASVAB but they made me get a hairline fracture from 6 years ago reexamined. And before I even get to the actual test I have to acquire 15 college credits just for infantry.
I hope my brother is one of them because he is supposed to go back to Afghanistan.
"can't wait until they radically downsize the military, that shit's expensive"
*downsizes military*
"b-b-but the soldiers! they served our country! i assumed we would just keep paying them forever despite the fact that there's no war going on!"
