I'm already enlisted and going to basic in August this year. From what I heard, the cuts are mainly going to affect recruitment and not the men and women already in service. Around my recruitment office, they only accept ASVAB scores of 50 or above to even THINK about trying to recruit you. The standards raised so that the people who can join will be smarter and more physically fit than your average high school dropout. EDIT: Nevermind, I guess they ARE getting discharged. That's sad.
Seriously? A 50? The ASVAB is an amazingly easy test and I just don't see how it can be hard to some people. It's hardest material are things covered in 9th grade biology.
That sounds pretty good, but a 100000 soldiers are not much considering the whole American Army. Maybe they should have limited the amount of expensive gear and supplies that are being produced/bought. Although I do not know if that would significantly decrease the efficency of the Army.
Trust me, the Army needs those expensive pieces of equipment. I am at AIT to become an aviation mechanic and we need all of the best tools and other equipment that we have currently. If I am working on a multimillion dollar Kiowa Warrior, then I need Snap-On, not harbour freight.

It's an aptitude test, so it depends how far your knowledge goes and they use it to reflect on how much you could learn if they teach you different skills. Still, I made an 88 and went infantry with no issues about a month ago. The cut in troops still worries me about my job security as infantry. Good thing I plan on going for a lot of the schools, the more you advance in the Army, the more they want you.
While I hate to see people "lose" jobs, I am so glad the government decide to CUT FUNDING to the god-damned military.
Guys, remember, current soldiers aren't going to lose their jobs. The DoD just isn't going to recruit as many people as the older folk retire. It makes sense though, our military has become way over-inflated for no reason. We aren't even facing any truly imminent threat that requires to have such a huge force. even though there is still something like 1.5 million active soldiers in the US, I completely support taking measures to lower the amount to possibly 900k just because we aren't fighting wars like Vietnam, or World War II anymore where high causalities are expected.
The amount of gun toting american patriots massively overwhelms the united states military in numbers regardless, so if there was ever a dire need for enlistments we would never fall short.
I hope some of my friends come home now.
