Personally as living in Texas all of my life, we are majorly Christian and most of us are anti-gay depending where you live. Some people commit hate crimes in more rural areas, hell there is even a city in Texas called Nigger Town. Although, even when you ignore the fucking inbreeds and cowboys we are a civilized state as you would believe otherwise. So would y'all just think of Texas as a nice regular American state, not a retarded bunch of pig fuckers because that is Alabama.

Gay does not mean lesbian :|

Forum elitism?
are you serious?
Thank you for telling us you have the emotional maturity of an 11 year old
Texas is the last place I expected this from.
Actually, most of us Texan's don't really judge a person by their sexuality.
Unlike the stereotype, we aren't black-hating, gay-hating members of the KKK.
I know. You're probably amazed:]
Holy shit it's a miracle!
I don't see it as being that big of a deal, her opponent was African American. For the biased citizens, it was either/or I guess.

What are you talking about? I'm simply stating that our gold members are expected to hold to a higher posting standard than the average member. That was below par.

Why because they can shell out money?
You put too much faith in gold members.

Green members are expected to keep personal bias out of their posts, but this isn't happening either.
[editline]08:33PM[/editline]
but you know I love you man
This reminds me of that transgender mayor someone linked to. He didn't even get a sex change, he just got a boob job. :barf:

What am I being bias about? I'm simply pointing out that a post isn't good. I don't have any bias against MasterFen (I don't even know who he is)

Where have you been? No one has paid for gold member since early 2006 or something. There's about 1500 gold members now. They're gold members because they have been a member of Facepunch for two years and have made 2,000 posts. This is coming straight from garry that these new gold members are expected to have on-topic, and good posts.

I don't pay attention to the evolution of membership.
God damn shut the fuck up about how "its Texas, OMFG impossible" if you go to any major city in Texas you'll find it no different than the "great and tolerant" Northern cities. Spend a day in Austin especially, you'll all realize how ridiculous you're all being.
Just because it's the south and the few rednecks out in small towns are still far from accepting doesn't mean the entire state is that way.
Whoever says "HERP TEXAS IS SO CHRISTIAN AND SOUTHERN WHY A GAY MAYOR HERP STEREOTYPES" should shut the fuck up and live in Houston for once.
Goddamn you fucking stereotypical people. Live here.
Anyway, its a shame my city voted for her. She hates cops and plans to get rid of them or some bullshit. This sucks for my dad.
And to the above post.
THANK FUCKING YOU FOR SAYING THAT! :hf:
I wish her name was Harriet Milk.
This is good, but that sexuality sways voters at all is still wrong. They should have voted entirely on merit.
Lets face it, that's never going to happen. Sexuality will always come into play for elections.
This was in Texas? Holy shit! Does that mean they are still trying to teach only the "teachings" of the Bible and absolutely nothing else?

Here's an idea:
Live in Houston for like, I don't know A YEAR, and see how it is.
Then you will see that the big cities in Texas is not all "PRAISE JESUS!"
*gasp* what a suprise.
Poor choice in terms of morality, but this mayor may be good. Not sure why this deserved news attention. Seriously, who besides Texans gives two shits about what mayor Houston has? This should've been in local news, not national headlines.
Hopefully she isn't a pussy when it comes to laying down the law
This is certainly a step in the right direction, but gay people are still not truly equal in society :l
Awesome

How is electing a woman who likes other women a poor choice in terms of morality?
Hopefully she isn't a pussy when it comes to laying down the law
Uhh thats the problem....
She plans to get rid of the cops. She hates them.
So bad news for my dad.
Too bad Houston might be the shittiest city in the US. Horrible traffic, horrible weather, horrible pollution, and tons of poverty. I wish it would move out of my state.
I hope it doesn't get murdered like the last gay mayor/government-anything was that was elected.
ps: aren't Texans southern-super-christians, aka would never elect gays, or anything that goes against their religion?
No, we aren't.
I live in Houston area. How did I not hear of this?
