Funny thing is that they do sometimes have sales. I'm not sure if as high as 90% but I've seen 75% before.
Well then that's not so bad. So long as it's not a pain in the ass to sign into your account on a friends XBO, this seems pretty reasonable. I've never really liked the GWFL linking games to accounts, but that's because A. I bought it on Steam, and didn't want GFWL, and B. GFWL is a pain in the ass at times.
This is just getting more confusing every second. Xbox support is all over the place atm.
Also, the Steam comparisons are true, but I get my games for dirt cheap on Steam so i'm not bothered about used/trade-in. No doubt MS will slap £40+ on pre-owned games

split screen l4d, bitch.
I really don't understand how they'll get around this, though.
With the new system, games install to your hard drive, rather than run off the disk. That's what allows for the new crazy fast 'instant on' stuff they were talking about. Plus, it's a little more practical than putting a disc in every time. It also kind of weans people onto the idea of having games installed on their Xbox, making them more likely to use the store and download their games, which is the way things are probably going to go completely a little further on down the line. It's a pretty good system.
The trouble is, if you can do that, can't a big group of friends get one disc and install it on all their Xboxes? People already borrow games, yeah, but this is a whole other thing entirely. One disc means unlimited people can have one game simultaneously. They've got to have some way of preventing that.
I'm just trying to figure out if all those benefits are worth it.
Whats the discussion about steam and x-box one?
A console isn't really as private as a computer that you actually CAN personalize.
The console is supposed to be more of a social tool instead, as in real life with friends or siblings.
just like steam?
It'd be like Steam if it only allowed you to play games on the PC you installed them to and if you got a new computer or wanted to download your games on a second computer you'd have to re-buy all your games.
You weren't supposed to do that then, either
To be fair spawn installation was a pretty common thing if I recall correctly, I.E you could access the multiplayer mode without the disk. Pass the disk around the clients to install the game and then leave it in the server host machine.
Largely a thing of the past, sadly.

No. You don't have to re-buy them all.
netflix sure is useful for people outside the US.
As far as I know so do Netflix work outside of the US. Atleast in Sweden.
Wait so what do you do with your games if an account gets banned off Live and you have to make a new one?
i really hope this thing flops so that the industry will finally take the fucking hint that we don't want any of this shit.

i know i won't be buying One.
EDIT: How is Microsoft going to manage?
Probably by the fact that it will sell very well by brand recognition and games?
Can we stop using this as an argument?
Steam =/= PC.
Steam is a game client, not THE game system itself. I can easily get games that are not on Steam. You don't have such choices on Xbox.
You won't find a guy that doesn't use Steam, though, and everybody is nuts about Steam. PC's will always be superior to consoles, that's just how it is, but Steam is a platform in of itself, and it's one that many people use almost exclusively. It's a very valid comparison.
Well anyways, the emphasis is clearly on the tv side, at least for now.
Also, the xbox one isn't a all in one system like they say. You still need a tv receiver if you want to use the TV functions at all.
Good, but it still means you can't borrow your games to your
friends without giving them your profile. Still, I guess the splitscreen
multiplayer thingy is safe now...
You can't borrow your games to someone already.
You can lend them though.
No fee to play the game when you are signed into your profile. But if I give my friend the disk and say, "Have fun!" He can't because now he has to pay a rental fee to microsoft in order to play it on his profile?

We're not sure yet. I'm worried though, my dad and I both have Xboxs so we just split the price of games and share. If they're taking that away that's fucked.

The fact that everyone uses Steam for some games isn't the same as everyone being forced to use it. The realm of PC gaming isn't limited to the games and services that Steam alone provides. You could get The Witcher on Steam, or you could get it on GoG. You could get an indie title on Steam, or you could get it off the dev's website.
just like steam?
Well, yeah. That's why it sucks.
What's with the hate against the Xbox One? I won't buy one since I'm saving up for a good PC, but really what's so bad about it?
just like steam?
I can play my Steam games on any PC I want, my PC also does more than a console, no matter how much random shit Microsoft throws into what is essentially 'Windows 8 for your TV Oh yeah it plays games too'
Consoles are different than PCs. It's a different market completely. To start treating games and consoles like they are PCs and PC Games all of a sudden is ridiculous.
Say Xbox 360 did it. Some boy and his sister both play Red Dead Redemption, but also want their own achievements and are progressing differently in the story, want their own unlocks they worked for in-game, nor does He want to play as PrincessPigtail25, or she want to play as CaptainJackMan32. Gotta buy two copies/pay an additional fee. That's absurd

Vauge details about if it's always online or not, and requires an unknown fee, rumored the full game cost for used games.
If they are going to do this, they better not 'punish' users for having profiles on multiple consoles like they did with the Xbox 360.

different profiles can play on the same game licence
What we’re doing with the digital permissions that we have for Xbox One is no different to that. If I am playing on that disc, which is installed to the hard drive on my Xbox One, everybody in my household who has permission to use my Xbox One can use that piece of content.
You don't have to buy two of the same game to able to play on diffrent accounts, everyone on that Xbox can play the game. But if you bring it to a friends Xbox then you'll have to pay a small fee or log in with your account. The fee for playing on a other console its the same price as the game costed. That's fucking stupid.
[editline]22nd May 2013[/editline]
Ok, it seems pretty fucking shitty that if I want to give away my game to a friend then they'll be have to pay like 60 bucks for it. Hope they'll flop with this just so they can realise that they made a huge mistake.
just like steam?
uh except you don't have 4 or 5 people sharing a gaming computer
No fee to play the game when you are signed into your profile. But if I give my friend the disk and say, "Have fun!" He can't because now he has to pay a rental fee to microsoft in order to play it on his profile?
And you still won't be viable to resell a used game because it will have been tied to your account, and anyone new trying to use it will have to pay the fee (however much it may be) anyway.
Once Microsoft completely abandons the 360, I'll be making the switchover to PC. I'll feel so priveleged to be part of the master race soon!
I read somewhere you're not, that just like 360 arcade games they are both tied to your account and hardware.
If they do that, then it is going to screw over people so badly. That system had so many DRM restrictions on it that it wasn't funny.
