Which in turn makes people think the US is stupid and has weird laws and shit.
While infact Ombama is doing pretty good in comparison with Bush.
But really, 99% against? How does that even work? I would've expected 99% for the bill. 1 % consisting of people with warped ideas of how it should be.
It was 99% of Republicans against it actually. Democrats voted for it, but obviously they don't have the majority anymore.
Aren't we supposed to always respect the Constitution anyways? Apparently it's just a bunch of words on a piece of paper now...

Everything that isn't actually unconstitutional is unconstitutional, but the things that really are aren't.
Maybe they're reading the back

Well, I don't think healthcare is a "constitutional" issue on their end. They just don't like it because it doesn't favor large business, doesn't support small government, and will reduce their salary
You can't just blame the Republicans.
Throughout the entire history of United States Political Parties (and other nations), each side always (ALWAYS) votes against the other sides bill's. It doesn't matter good or bad, that's just how it works.
Americans are faggots.
So 99% of republicans are retarded. Thats nice to know.
But really I hope this doesn't pass.
2 party system shows why its utterly useless once again.
Divided Government ftw.

It's not like if the government was to take small pieces out of our rights that all life would come to an end.
In fact, you don't actually have a complete 100% right to free speech: you can't yell something like "FIRE" in a public place, you can't threaten people, you can't use certain profanity, and a few other things. These "infringements" all make perfect sense, but it still does mean that your rights aren't completely untouched.
This is why I don't really care about the patriot act, it's not like it's the only small breach to our rights that the government has ever done, and it won't make much of a difference.
A little quote from our good friend, Benjamin Franklin.
They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither.
He who would trade liberty for some temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security.
He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither.
People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both.
If we restrict liberty to attain security we will lose them both.
Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.
He who gives up freedom for safety deserves neither.
Those who would trade in their freedom for their protection deserve neither.
Those who give up their liberty for more security neither deserve liberty nor security.
Yea and people need to be more realistic about terrorism and see that the small threat of terrorism is not worth the freedom and resources being are currently using on trying to stop it.

National crises tend to unify the government.
so someone tell me what the fuck is the point of the constitution you have
I mean, for a nation that basically worships the damned thing, you guys just seem to take your government shitting on it.
This is why I didn't like living in America
Since Government class this semester, I've been wanting more and more to get out of this country, and it's been becoming an exponentially more urgent want as time passes.
Either Canada or maybe Switzerland. I just want out o' this country before it turns into Oceania from 1984.
They're not rights if you can deny them to anyone. Rights can never be fucking denied. You can't lose rights. They're not rights if you can lose them. Murderers may be bad people most of the time, but you can't strip them of their rights. YOU CAN NEVER STRIP PEOPLE OF THEIR RIGHTS
It's NEVER ok. Why does facepunch think "Oh, your rights don't matter because you did something, so now we decide!" Even if it's a criminal act, you still shouldn't lose them ever, effective justice systems do not strip people of their rights.
Yep
This is just fucking wrong...i want to move to Norway or some place cold... build a underground home...

Me too
So healthcare is evil socialism, yet spying on people is just fine?

Because it's fine to stop someone from saying stupid things that infringe on other's rights. Yelling fire in a public place is a waste of resources and could be dangerous. Threatening people is a crime because you are verbally attacking another person, they have the right to be free from harm, which over-rides your freedom of speech. Certain constitutional rights over-ride others.
It's not like they take away your freedom of speech, other people have rights too that can over-ride your rights if you are being a pompous douchebag.
On the other hand, allowing the government to spy on you is completely different. You should have the right to privacy as the government is run by guess what, people. People who will hear what you say to your friends and family. What if you're talking to your doctor over the phone? You don't want some government agent to listen to that, that's sick.
Edit: Oh, and there's no constitutional right for the government to spy on you. The constitution is meant to be a standard of rights that cannot be taken away. The only exceptions are when certain rights have to over-ride others (I.E: You are threatening people)

Good luck getting Swiss citizenship.
And settle down, this is nothing like 1984. Not even close. Take a breath.
You sound like the teabaggers.
OK, so the Constitution is written on hemp, right?
So let's go into the National Archives building, grab the Constitution, put it in a pipe, and smoke it!
Oh Glaaaaaaaaaberr, FP is caaaaaalllliiiinnng....
Booking a plane ticket to Canada as we speak
I think it's getting about to that point.
Wouldn't voting against extension of The Patriot act be a good thing? Considering that's what HR 514 is for...
