I don't understand the American sentencing system- if it goes over a certain amount of time why not just say life sentence instead of 100+ years?

Did she actually gouge out her own eyes? Surely you would die from shock.
For some reason this reminded me of Ryu-gi
"Give him some hope of someday getting out. To do that is the humane thing to do."

As if raping and severely assaulting a girl for 19 hours straight is the humane thing to do.
I know the man is supposed to defend him but come on!
I hope he gets raped.

Because a life sentence can be repealed for whatever reason. This way, even if one life sentence is repealed, he still has another 300 or so years to stay in jail.
This man should be tortured untill he dies.
A slow and painful death.
It stuns me that shit like this happens in our society. I don't care how advanced we are, deep down we're still savages.
The good thing is that people like him never last in prison. They're prime targets for rape, beatings, murder, etc.

There's a certain chance that parts of his sentence will be revoked. So instead of having one life sentence, he has multiple offenses that will take multiple appeals to be revoked, so even if he's somehow found innocent of one crime, he'll still be in jail for his other crimes.
Just kill the damn bastard, I mean why should the state pay for his ass for another 60 or so years?
The death penalty is actually very expensive, there's a lot of paperwork and redundancy that go into it to ensure they're killing the right person and things like that.
Wait, look at the title.
I think the OP copy paste it

but anyways, this sort of people are probably going to end up murdering someone if they are not stopped.

Because he has to be punished for each crime he's committed in case some charges get overturned.

The death penalty actually costs more than keeping him in prison for the rest of his life.
He made a woman go blind. He deserve this punishment.
Are you saying that if it was a man it wouldn't matter?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/ethics/capitalpunishment/against_1.shtml
It costs more because they get a shitload of appeals. If you simplify the appeals for crimes such as these with literally overwhelming evidence it would cost much less.

A bullet don't cost shit.

What's your point?
Shit he's practically Hannibal Lecter
But scarier

It costs to feed a family of 4 around 300$ each month give or take some, maybe 100 or so.
Then you have to add in upkeep, wages, electricity, cleaning, housing, everything elss, a prison alone prob, has a HUGE bill each month.
The cost of all those things other than wages couldn't possibly add up to lower than giving him a shot of cyanide. Plus we can always just hang people again. That worked really well.

And this.
Thank goodness he's locked up
Understandably the "eye for an eye" punishment is unfair in most cases, but he should seriously be tortured for the rest of his existence. At first I thought he only raped her for 19 hours (which is still awful but nothing compared to the rest of what he did). Honestly, he has destroyed this girl's life. She's blind, disfigured, etc. I hope the inmates go easy on him, because most of them will kill him flat out. This guy deserves the longest, most brutal punishment possible.

lol
yeah, cause murdering murders makes a lot of sense.

Nope, death penalty costs more than a life sentence, I believe a state wasted 4 billion on five executions in one year, it's just not worth it.
And besides, rapists and pedophiles are hated in US prisons.
Uh, by the way.

Or did I miss that?

Not really. Considering the amount of innocent people the USA executed in the past.
Make me want to watch Law abiding citizen.
I really thing that the prison is going to be a hell on earth for him, so no need to hurry with killing him.
Also, I wouldn't want to be his cellmate.

The money is spent on appeals, execution itself.

What about in cases of overwhelming evidence like this one? They didn't have nearly as many of the tools they did when they hanged people as they do now.
