I mean, they are the party where during opposition, three MP's ran out when a division was called over the speaker (?) they've shown they aren't very mature
Basically an independent tried to give them a vote they didn't want, so some Coalition MPs legged it to cancel out that extra vote.
Also you shouldn't be glad you live in a safe seat, the idea of safe seats is horrible and anti-democratic.
A safe seat is neither horrible nor anti-democratic, it's literally just a name for a seat which has an overwhelming amount of people believing one way and (generally speaking) being happy with their electoral representative. If we somehow made safe seats harder to kick I'd agree, but as it is I can't see how it's anti-democratic?

At least in marginal seats each side gets representation every now and then, but with safe seats were talking about often around forty percent of the electorate without any representation over multiple elections and eventually over multiple decades.

For years I thought this place will always be home. But the longer it seems to drag on that I can't marry, and the more I see where the place is headed, the more I'm tempted to properly complete learning Dutch and move to Netherlands, or Canada.
You just came at a bad time, wait a couple years and someone else will get in to power. Well.. probably.
I don't see Abbott winning next election
I don't see Abbott winning next election
I dunno man, there's still a large populus of Australians that are completely deluded and idiotic that will still vote for Abbott.
Most people seem even more unhappy about the current government than they were before it. Though my experiences might not represent the whole of Australia. My Dad is in support of Abbott, we had a pretty heated argument over it once. Personally, I hope in the future Australia cracks down on separating church from state. We pay $31billion a year to religion(The cost of the Labour NBN) and recently a change was made that requires social workers in schools to be religious in order to receive government funding. I don't know about you but a cut to social workers seems like a horrible idea, what with the recent school shootings in America. Though a cut to religion funding may not happen any time soon, that's a fairly large group of people that will never vote for you again.

There's much more important things to take care of, same sex marriage is a non-issue.
There's much more important things to take care of, same sex marriage is a non-issue.
Yeah.. like going to Harvey Norman. Which.. is what Abbott did during.
There's much more important things to take care of, same sex marriage is a non-issue.
If we keep saying this to everything Parliament wants to do, then we'd get no where [editline]1st June 2015[/editline]
Yeah.. like going to Harvey Norman. I wish someone would give Rupert Murdoch a kick up the arse.
I wish someone would give Rupert Murdoch a kick up the arse.
Murdoch pulled the same shit with the recent UK elections by being just as hellbent against the Labour party just like in the 2013 election And I'm sure in the 2016 election for the US he'll be hellbent for the Republicans as well if the UK and Australia is anything to base it off
Hopefully it causes some controversy in the UK and America then. All of the petitions and such here have gotten nowhere, some awareness would be good.
In Queensland and South Australia you can still kill a gay person hitting on you and use "gay panic" as a defense against murder charges
My Victorians friend joke that Adelaide is 10 years behind Victoria....Tends to be true on some things. Oh God Cory Bernardi is from SA too....
My Victorians friend joke that Adelaide is 10 years behind Victoria....
We don't joke in Victoria.
You do know that politicians do other things than sit around all day right? If anything this was a stunt pulled by shorten and his crew to make the LNP look bad.
You do know that politicians do other things than sit around all day right? If anything this was a stunt pulled by shorten and his crew to make the LNP look bad.
Actually this is a fair point as the chamber is only ever full when question time is on, or for ceremonies.
You do know that politicians do other things than sit around all day right? If anything this was a stunt pulled by shorten and his crew to make the LNP look bad.
Well I don't think it was done to make LNP look bad, but to make themselves look good. But that doesn't really matter, the bill is a pretty important human rights advancement that is well overdue. LNP not showing up was just childish, if they were against it they should have showed up and voted against it. [editline]2nd June 2015[/editline] You can't use the argument that they do other things, if that were the case a few people would probably have turned up. It was obvious that they didn't go on purpose.
It's an old law that has not been used, Queensland is actually under a Labor government right now so I'm surprised they haven't scrapped the defence yet Might mail my representative and ask if it's on the agenda
It was used in 2010, and this year a judge overturned a murder conviction because the original judge suggested that it shouldn't be used. You can't say it isn't being used when a murderer is currently getting a retrial because of it.
Imagine an australian gay wedding You may now mate your mate, mate
If titles were still a thing, I would give one to you, mate.
I find it hard to not despise politicians when they regularly pull this stupid shit. I just feel bad for the ones who are actually there to try better our country.
