LoS series was supposed to be a spinoff, but now that Konami has seen the sales, it wants to make it a full fledged reboot, huh?
So we'll never see a classicvania again, won't me?
I'm more of a classicvania man myself. At least I got Dracula X Chronicles
Never been a fan of Metroidvanias past SotN.
I don't see reviews of it anywhere
There are some now and fuck is it looking dire, I don't know how the fuck they fucked it up so much.
All they literally had to do is take the combat mechanics of the first game and apply them to a metroidvania structure, that would have been perfect. But apparently forced stealth sections sounds like a better idea to mercurysteam.
Well, now i really do hope that Nintendo will make a Metroid 5 on 3DS that will be a Super Metroid styled platformer, I mean, afterall A Link Between Worlds has the same gameplay and style as A Link To The Past

The problems with the stealth sections are way overblown. A decent gamer can pass them in 2 minutes, and there's like 4 of them in the game. But as usual most reviewers actually suck at playing games so it takes them several hours. I am not kidding. Some guy on kotaku complained it took him 4 hours to pass.
Be that as it may, the complaints about boring world design are more worrying to me. World design is definitely the most important part of any metroidvania-esque game (it's the main reason why Super Metroid and SotN are still considered the pinnacle of the genre), plus if Castlevania's had one single thing going for it throughout it's entire catalogue, it's atmosphere.
Apparently there's some kind of odd cyberpunk thing going on alongside the more typical parts in Drac's castle. Even the games of the original series set in the future kept the deeply Gothic atmosphere.
Not from AAA publishers, unless Nintendo finally makes an announcement on their next metroid game.
However, just glance at the indie market to find a massive amount of metroidvania games.
And many of them are damn good, so it doesn't really matter.
It's just AAA market focusing on BIG BUCK SHOTAN, nothing new, nothing relevant. Don't buy their crap and move on playing the games you actually want rather than the games the AAA producers offer.
Castlevania Symphony of the night is to this day my favourite metroidvania game.
Why do I have a feeling that it has something to do with how unless its like that XBLA/PSN multiplayer one its "harder" to make and sell DLC for a 2d one rather than what was mentioned? Granted, I have yet to play any of the Lords and don't know the DLC situation and therefore what I stated is most likely irrelevant.
At least metroid and castlevania are dead together.

this hasn't been the thing for a while now

Selling DLC for a metroidvania style game should actually be fairly simple. Bonus costumes being a good example
Yeah, no, MercuryStream. If this somehow comes out to be true the blame for destroying a classic series falls on you and rightfully so.
And at least give me a sequel to Order of Ecclesia first Konami.

Errr, how is it excatly MS's fault for destroying the classic series? I mean, sure making the game more mainstream made the game stray from it's roots, but I kinda enjoyed it.
They wanted to do a 2-3 part story and end it at that, but once Konami noticed it's the best selling Castlevania till now, they decided they want to milk it further.
With, or without Mercury Stream (they deserve props for actually stepping down after LoS2, just as they said). It's not their fault that they made a fairly successfull game.
I'll reserve my judgement on the game till I get it in my hands. I've learned not to trust journalists.
