Isn't China just trying to stop further escalation of the conflict that way? What they said was more of an advice than a threat IMO.

Appears, is quite a bad word to use in a news article in my opinion. "We oppose any party to take any military acts in our exclusive economic zone without permission," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said in a statement, according to the state-run Xinhua News Agency. Xinhua quoted Chinese scholars who also criticized the planned drill by U.S. and South Korean (Republic of Korea) forces. "The United States and ROK should not take sensitive and provocative military actions at such a sensitive time and place," said Major General Luo Yuan, a researcher with the Chinese People's Liberation Army's Military Science Academy. He likened the planned exercise to "pouring oil onto flames." Only two quotes, I can't find any them supporting North Korea. China is like the least dangerous country in that region and the only one that seems to stop the fighting (to prevent anything happening to their economy I believe ). Because you can't deny that sending a aircraft carrier is quite provoking and basically is pouring oil onto flames. Who knows what crazy NK will do next.
China doesn't want a war on it's borders.
I agree with China. US and S. Korea are only exacerbating things by conducting those drills.
They've been planned for months.
Uhh...okay?
Not really a good point, but did you know that China has thousands of so called "mass incidents" per year? Mass incidents means riots and rebellions(!) in CCP nomenclature. Now imagine what would happen if they lost half their manufacturing jobs.

At least it's good that China is trying to prevent a war from happening instead of siding with any of the two factions.
China doesn't want a fragile war on it's borders so they just want that they would stop the exercise to prevent things getting any worse.
Hi China, this is the west. We buy most of your stupid shit. Probably best to side with us.
Hi West, this is China. You are dependent on our stupid shit.
Shut up China, we know you won't do anything. You have more to lose than NK does. [editline]27th November 2010[/editline] I'm so glad you posted this early so the sensationalist title doesn't make people think of funny things I don't think they're "siding" with them per se, more that they don't like naval ships off of their territories.
I hate communists. They are so egoistic.
After some review, Russia and china would be the only two countries that would actually put up a real fight conventionally. to the USA anyways. If korean war were to start and russia and china joined in, Then we would probably have the EU attack russia's west front while we invaded the east. Then we would move south into china.
China is just trying to stop this from escalating more than it already has. If there is a war, whichever way it goes, China loses. 1) USA+ROK wins, China now has a massive US military presence right next to it. 2) DPRK wins, China can't sell as many goods to the US.
Agreed, however NK cannot win in anything other than blowing Seoul to hell before they go out.
Yeah, it would still damage China's relations with the US.
I hate communists. They are so egoistic.
north korea isn't even communist
FYI, Russia isn't a communist super state any more.
I said russia because china are close to them. tradewise and whatnot
China is tasked with calming down NK, this exercise is not going to calm them down so obviously China is against it.

And I agree with China's stance on this, the only good thing that can come from a war between the North and the South is getting Kim Jong-il's regime out of there.

They'd have to be retarded to take part in this. [editline]27th November 2010[/editline]
Also don't forget that if the North Korean government falls, that means millions of North Korean refugees flooding into China.
I actually never realized this. That could be a huge problem for them.
I said russia because china are close to them. tradewise and whatnot
It's them close to us, not other way around. And no, Russia won't take part in it. Only if NK attacks Japan. Then Russia would make one hell of a mess of NK.
Hi China, this is the west. We buy most of your stupid shit. Probably best to side with us.
The U.S. owes china a lot of money.... theoretically the U.S. is in China's debt.
Any way you slice it, China is coming, whether we're ready or not: and most signs point to "not." After all, China holds $755 billion worth of U.S. Treasury securities, about a third of the $2.37 trillion of Treasury debt held by foreign owners. That means they hold more of our debt than the entire GDP's of Puerto Rico ($67 billion), Ecuador ($107 billion), Sweden ($333 billion), and Israel ($205 billion) combined. Just be thankful that calling in all of that debt isn't in their economic interests.
http://www.brassmagazine.com/blog/us-owes-china-its-lunch-money http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/mar/02/chinas-debt-to-us-treasury-more-than-indicated/ https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2001rank.html
It's them close to us, not other way around. And no, Russia won't take part in it. Only if NK attacks Japan. Then Russia would make one hell of a mess of NK.
Fuck i'm thinking of the 80's again. Sorry.
This is just getting worse and worse...
This sounds fun. I love global tension.
They've been planned for months.
The drill should be done another time when tensions have settled. Yes, North Korea shouldn't have bombed South Korea but this isn't the United States fight. It is also not their call to drag everyone into this mess.
Also don't forget that if the North Korean government falls, that means millions of North Korean refugees flooding into China.
Actually, they most likely flood to South Korea where there is plenty of food and job opportunity. Koreans will go where Koreans live
I'm just afraid that someone will be fucking stupid and fire off a nuclear missile.
Hi China, this is the west. We buy most of your stupid shit. Probably best to side with us.
This.
