• UK to shut down all of its coal power plants in the next 10 years, replace with nuclear and gas
+ nuclear powerplants will maintain the near monopoly energy companies have on the energy supply. Nationalised nuclear power with privatised smaller scale renewables (smaller startup cost so easier to compete) would be the optimal solution imo.
Monopoly? Practically anyone with a few million either by themselves or from venture capital can get into the energy game. There's no monopoly unless it's created by the state and there are many competing energy companies around.
The waste that you have to deal with, is a nightmare in itself. Coupled with the fact that if there was a catastrophic accident it leaves large areas irradiated and uninhabitable.
This has only happened like twice in history because people didn't follow proper procedure or otherwise kept a reactor operating past a time it should have been shut down. Coal mining itself releases more radioactive particles into the environment every year than nuclear does anyways.
lol only happened twice, that's great it only happened twice but we now have two exclusion zones of useless land. People are never going to follow proper procedure coupled with the fact that disasters can also happen in the first world with proper safety guidelines. So don't replace it with nuclear power..?
i'd argue very strongly to replace it with nuclear. nuclear power is one of the few feasible sources of clean energy
Okay? So don't replace it with nuclear power..?
"Coal mining releases more radiation into the environment per year than nuclear does" "yeah but don't use nuclear tho"
"Coal mining releases more radiation into the environment per year than nuclear does" "yeah but don't use nuclear tho"
so you're saying something like natural gas is going to emit a ton of radiation too? stop being so black and white
so you're saying something like natural gas is going to emit a ton of radiation too? stop being so black and white
You've pretty much painted nuclear 100% black, so maybe you should take your own advice.
so you're saying something like natural gas is going to emit a ton of radiation too? stop being so black and white
As a matter of fact, yes, it does.
