there are others ways to get files...
Really, impossible?!
Looks like we've been infiltrated by commies.
Communists, in my Defense Department?
None of our classified computers have USB ports anyway, and having recording and storage materials like cameras, flash drives, and recorders in secure zones is already illegal--you can lose your clearance for that. [editline]13th December 2010[/editline] I guess not all classified computers are like that.
But how will they prevent the most common method of stealing data of all - submerging the RAM in liquid nitrogen and then pulling the data off it later?!
[img_thumb]http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/products/additional/large/ironkey_capoff.jpg[/img_thumb] :smug:
That thing's a big scam, you don't get any keys with it... :sigh:
But how will they prevent the most common method of stealing data of all - submerging the RAM in liquid nitrogen and then pulling the data off it later?!
"Please turn out your pockets and give us any liquid nitrogen you have--you'll get it back at the end of the day. If I catch anybody with liquid nitrogen before then, they're in big trouble!" It's standard protocol, Zeke. One time this guy thought he could just use his liquid nitrogen under the desk while nobody was looking, but the sergeant was wise to his machinations! They had to call his captain and have him pick it up the next morning! He didn't get to use any liquid nitrogen all night!
We haven't been allowed to use thumbdrives on SIPR Or NIPR net for quite awhile... this isn't really new news for us army folk... though policies vary from unit to unit at times...
Ahem
Ahem [img_thumb]http://www.topbits.com/graphics/sd-card.jpg[/img_thumb]

But the U.S. military is telling its troops to stop using CDs, DVDs, thumb drives and every other form of removable media -- or risk a court martial.
Screen cap and email yourself the pics. Or just take pictures of the computer screen with a high def camera.
Thumb drives and SD cards are getting so small they'd be hard to find on an individual. [editline]13th December 2010[/editline]
Screen cap and email yourself the pics. Or just take pictures of the computer screen with a high def camera.
The latter is rather indiscreet.
Screen cap and email yourself the pics. Or just take pictures of the computer screen with a high def camera.
these documents are hundreds of pages long
Screen cap and email yourself the pics. Or just take pictures of the computer screen with a high def camera.
You can't email outside of a SIPR net... it's a closed network... and everything on NIPR is unclassified... Camera's are prohibited from classified areas...
I don't blame them, many companies that deal with high-risk or secret things ban the use of portable writable media to minimize leak risk. The Military doing that is totally reasonable.
My dad worked at fannie mae for a while, you couldn't access his computer without this little doohickey keychain he had. The doohickey generated a password which changed every minute or so, which he then used to log onto the computer. So yeah, totally reasonable.

It's a lot more fun to say doohickey. [editline]13th December 2010[/editline] That's what he called it.
It's a lot more fun to say doohickey. [editline]13th December 2010[/editline] That's what he called it.
They're usually called dongles, which is even funner to say.
I'll plug my dongle into your usb port anytime girrrllll.
Not exactly unexpected, but still going to be impossible to enforce.
Not exactly unexpected, but still going to be impossible to enforce.
Yes, because disabling the generic usb mass storage drivers is completely impossible, right?
Yes, because disabling the generic usb mass storage drivers is completely impossible, right?
Most computer images are set up this way, there's alot of s-6 shops that neglect to though...

Teams of Troubleshooters have been dispatched to deal with this potential threat. Remember, Mutant Commie traitors are everywhere.
Most computer images are set up this way, there's alot of s-6 shops that neglect to though...
You a 25B?
You a 25B?
Yep...
But the U.S. military is telling its troops to stop using CDs, DVDs, thumb drives and every other form of removable media -- or risk a court martial
so wait, it isn't supposed to jam in there and stay forever? shit
Yep...
Hot shit, I'm not alone anymore.
Hot shit, I'm not alone anymore.
25B20, same as you (looked at your Facebook...) I'm at Bagram Airfield, just outside of Kabul Afghanistan.
Screen cap and email yourself the pics. Or just take pictures of the computer screen with a high def camera.
Might as well just walk in and ask for it if it's apparently so easy to do that.
25B20, same as you (looked at your Facebook...) I'm at Bagram Airfield, just outside of Kabul Afghanistan.
I was at Camp Phoenix in 2008, just a couple minutes away from you.
I was at Camp Phoenix in 2008, just a couple minutes away from you.
Was supposed to go there in a SASMO section, ended up in a NETOPS here instead.
