Why is there two threads on this subject?
Posted by the same person?

The other thread is basically the follow up to this one.

You seem to have forgotten about this post.
I have nothing against LGBT people.
I had you on the list because you didn't seem to take the importance of someone who was transgender being referred to as the gender they identify as seriously.
But I guess that can be chalked up to ignorance rather than hatred so I'll remove you from the list.

because honestly what kind of parent lets their kid get gender reassignment surgery and hromone replacement therapy
because honestly what kind of parent lets their kid get gender reassignment surgery and hromone replacement therapy
Good ones?
It's not like she's getting put on hormones at 11 or anything
because honestly what kind of parent lets their kid get gender reassignment surgery and hromone replacement therapy
A parent that understands that once a child has assigned himself a gender since the age of 4-5 that gender is permanent? And this child is 11.
Also you seem to be ignorant to what transgender therapy is. It isn't just reassignment surgery and hormone replacement surgery. It starts out with counseling and puberty blockers and then those decisions are made after diagnosis from a doctor who is an expert on this subject.
[editline]24th March 2012[/editline]
See this is why ignorance is a huge problem. People like you treat gender identity disorder in children like it's some kind of phase they will grow out of.
Exactly like this father does.

Fine then let him chop off his dick and get injected with estrogen
Fine then let him chop off his dick and get injected with estrogen
What a delightfully passive aggressive and ignorant post from someone who has no idea what transgender therapy is.
Fine then let him chop off his dick and get injected with estrogen
actually i think we should chop off your dick
actually i think we should chop off your dick
To be fair, it's not like it's going to get used either way.
Fine then let him chop off his dick and get injected with estrogen
Well your parents clearly chopped out your brain, so you're kind of a hypocrite.
Fine then let him chop off his dick and get injected with estrogen
Why can't you at least use gender neutral terms?
Refer to said child in the article differently from what you may usually use.
Funny that a father that is not there most of the time can make such a decision for his daughter.
Curiosity and gender confusion is actually highly prevalent up to the late teens. It's a tricky situation, and requires input from all.
Making a choice as early as 11 is both helpful and harmful in the long run.
In most cases, parents are not willing to talk decently to their children about what gender and identity are, what's perceived as normal and what is not. Parents tend to push their own agenda.
There is so simple solution to the issue. However the best course of action is usually to discuss with the child all aspects they face. Knowledge and understanding can give people the tools to make more thought out and informed decisions.
Simply stating that you feel as if you should be a girl is not a real sign of gender identity.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, females in particular are known to often experience 'penis envy' till menopause.
Sexuality is a complicated thing.
It goes so much deeper than the article and what you have all been raging about.

Exactly like this father does.
A large majority of children experience confusion about their gender and sexuality, it's is extremely common.
Most do experience this as a 'phase' and continue to grow in line with their physical characteristics.
The father is right in the fact he thinks his child should be his son, and it is only normal to be hurt and confused when this does not go to plan.

Now, by this, do you mean that Freudian "women are jealous and sad that they aren't as great as men", or do you mean "women sometimes feel like the other sex has a better situation and / or get curious about what it would be like to be the other gender, the former of which is enhanced by latent sexism in society"?
The father is right in the fact he thinks his child should be his son, and it is only normal to be hurt and confused when this does not go to plan.
The father is not right, however, in the fact that he's trying to control a major aspect of his child's life against their will and mental well-being.

To the former, simply curiosity. I've spoken to many willing subjects during some of my past study who have been very blunt with the fact that they often fantasised about being a male or experiencing how it feels like to be a man. Some even casually mentioned they would prefer to be men.
To the latter, the father is psychologically right to think he should have a son. But yes, as you say he is not right to try and control his child's life. The best thing he could have done was actually discuss the issue thoroughly with the child to give more knowledge and understanding.
