Rockstar: "future updates may not be possible on last generation hardware"
Why would you buy an xbox 1 it when it's coming on the PC?
I sometimes wonder that.
I just built a newer gaming PC for about the cost of an XBone.
I suppose some people like having less maintenance, about the only bonus about consoles IMO.
No virus scanning, defragging, etc.
That's dissapointing.
That's dissapointing.
Not really.
Have you seen what happens whenever a PS3 game was ported to PS2.
Most of the time the result wasn't good.
Why save up for a next gen console, when you have PC?
why spend $900 on upgrades and a new pc when you can spend $400 on brand new xbox and gta v
why spend $900 on upgrades and a new pc when you can spend $400 on brand new xbox and gta v
Because you get more flexability and options with a PC. It can be upgraded when it eventually does become old (Which it will still not be outdated as fast as a Console) You get a assfuck load more functionality.
Plus you don't have to fork out to play online, to name but a small few.
You're using existing numbers. Imagine if GTAV was next gen exclusive from the start, I'm pretty damn sure that would have made sales go up a lot higher than they are now.

When you see someone say something like this, you know they don't know how to build a PC.
Why save up for a next gen console, when you have PC?
Exclusives.
Or in the case of GTA, being able to play it immediately instead of waiting over a year for a PC release.
When you see someone say something like this, you know they don't know how to build a PC.
you're right. it is easy to build a pc but why spend so much more when you can get the same thing almost for less
I'd buy a PS4/Xbone in a heartbeat if one of them dropped the subscription requirement for multiplayer. I generally only play on consoles in short bursts which means I'd be paying about £50 per year for only a couple of weeks worth of play.
PS+ gave $1300 worth of games last year. PS+ is starting to give away retail PS4 games now too so that number is going to increase significantly. If you buy PS+ during Black Friday like everyone else does, you can get it for $30 a year.
the gap between bone and 4 releases and the pc release of 5 is only 3 months or so
Yeah except the gap between initial release and PC will be 1 year and 5 months
you're right. it is easy to build a pc but why spend so much more when you can get the same thing almost for less
You spend far less in the long run with a PC so you end up saving money, plus you can't really compare a console to a PC when a PC does so much more.

I am of age to comprehend the value of a dollar and you had eight years since the last generation of consoles to know "something is going to come and I'm going to want it". It is entirely your fault that you didn't save the nickel/dime a day to pay for the next generation of hardware. I don't care how broke/poor you are.
If you're invested in this medium even in the slightest bit, you should be buying new hardware past the 8/9 year mark. This mentality is why we're still going to have major 2015 titles coming out for 10 year old hardware.

For all you know, I could be living on my own while working on minimum wage, eating ramen noodles and hardly able to sustain a living but I play video games and I don't expect the industry to pander to my financial situation. I was smart and I saved a nickel a day to pay for consoles. Hell, I was able to pay for the PS4 and the Wii U in that amount of time.
What's your excuse?
You're using existing numbers. Imagine if GTAV was next gen exclusive from the start, I'm pretty damn sure that would have made sales go up a lot higher than they are now.
Nope, I'd just be more pissed off about the wait 'till PC.
You had 8 years to save since the release of the PS3/360. Why didn't you?
Because there's more important shit in life?
"YOU HAD A WHOLE WINTER BREAK TO GET THIS PROJECT DONE, WHY DIDN'T YOU?"
"My dad died and we had to arrange a funeral."
Like, differing situations, obviously, but that's a really dumb statement. What if someone wanted to go to college or something? That's probably more worth saving up for than a console that has a minimal amount of games anyone cares about as of right now.
To be honest this makes sense. Last generation's hardware is really old and has already been pushed to its absolute limit for the most part. The Last of Us was only possible on PS3 because naughty dog squeezed every ounce of performance possible out of the PS3.
Recently, Blizzard decided not to bring their updated content to the PS3 and 360 versions of D3: RoS and I'm pretty sure they cited a reason similar to this. The consoles are old and its getting harder and harder for them to keep up. I'm not going to say we should phase out the older consoles completely just yet (they both have HUGE install bases which Rockstar used to make the bulk of its money on GTA5) but the time is fast approaching where they WILL be obsolete.
I can only hope that the new generation consoles are slightly cheaper by that time. The only reason I got a wii U was because I got a pretty good deal on it, and it already had quite a number of games I wanted to play. I'd be happy to save up for PS4 or Xbox One when they become more affordable, and have a greater number of games I want to play that aren't just super shiny deluxe (not always the case) versions of games already on the older systems.
Many people are under the impression that PC gaming is really expensive, due to the larger lump sums.
Using some simple arithmetics, you'll find that this isn't really the case, though.
Let's make up two people, Sven and Johan.
Johan just bought an Xbox One, while Sven just bought this system:
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/KCUGTIo.png[/thumb]
An Xbox One is 500 dollars, which in turn means that Sven's spent around 200 dollars more than Johan. Like most people however, Johan also has a ~ 300 dollar PC which he uses for web-browsing, and other non-demanding tasks.
Let's find out how much money these people spend on their hobbies over the course of six years (I.E, the general lifespan of a console generation).
Both of them want online-capabilities, and both buy around 5 games a year. Console games generally cost around 60 dollars, while PC games generally cost around 40. (Not taking Steam sales and such into consideration)
Sven:
700$ (The PC)
+
400$ (He upgrades to a much more powerful graphics card after three years)
+
1200$ (30 games costing 40$ each)
After six years, Sven will have spent a total of 2300$ on his hobby.
---
Johan:
500$ (The console)
+
300$ (The simple PC)
+
360$ (Six years of Xbox Live Gold, 60$ annually)
+
1800$ (30 games costing 60$ each)
After six years, Johan will have spent a total of 2960$ on his hobby.
Johan may not spend 300 dollars on a PC, maybe he doesn't even have one at all, but even if we remove it, Sven will still have spent over 300$ less than him.
Of course, there are other things to take into consideration, you're able to find very cheap console games, as well, and some PC games are also very expensive.
My main point is that the hobby will cost pretty much the same, no matter which system you choose.
(As long as you're happy with graphical quality that's equal to/slightly better than the consoles, that is, if you want the best of the best, then things will obviously become a whole lot more expensive)
300$ pc can't do the same amount of work a 700$ one though. So if you're using your computer for more than just gaming, you already won since you can do work on it too.
Not to mention on decent PC you can plays games that are not commercially available aka many free games or f2p ones, many of them requiring a decent rig to play so add additional 30 games at 0$ each.
300$ PC is not a pleasant experience overall even if you only browse web on it.

My excuse. I pay Rent, Electric, Heating, Water, Internet, Fuel, Car maintenence, various debts, baliffs, food shopping, road tax, etc etc etc, list is endless.
I'm not expecting an industry to pander to me. Not sure where you got that statement from. I'm just saying that not everyone is in a viable situation to be able to save or risk saving and purchasing a console. Especially when they are £400+
And not all of us have the chance to ask our parents for money or friends for money if we get into a short fall.
And saving a nickel a day is not gonna buy you a console. Even over the course of 8 years. Infact saving a nickle a day for 8 years would net you barely $150.
Saving a dime a day would only get you barely $300
[editline]20th December 2014[/editline]
So I call bullshit on your statement.

A $300 desktop isn't that bad anymore. Even at that price a PC is overkill for most home user tasks which are office and web browsing.

Not all of us are greasy, fat NEETs sitting in mum's basement saving up all of our birthday money from nan to spend it on video games.
Some of us have jobs, and girlfriends, and pets, and adopted children, and other such things that we need to take care of.

That's my excuse.
Maybe it's just me, but where I live shit is highly expensive for some reason.
There aren't really good places to get the stuff that I'm looking for building, or maybe I just haven't looked enough. Many places sell but, pretty expensive, sometimes it seems like they're almost ripping you off, but you have no other option.
People always tell me "There's free shipping", yeah, but that's inside the US or other countries that apply on that.
Games and other stuff don't make it easy though, even consoles and games get insanely high prices, well, maybe it's just that I don't have money, but 8,000MP just for the console is already a lot of money, plus a 1,000MP game and the membership to play online.
Sometimes you don't really have an option whether getting a PC or a console, because they are both expensive regardless, again, I don't live in the US, so stuff maybe different.
I also don't trust shipping here, well, mostly for the experiences that I have heard from people, but I guess that happens in the US as well, you know the common stuff, delivering-people not giving a shit about packages and breaking stuff, stealing it, delivering it elsewhere, delivering it to the wrong direction (and the person who got it doesn't want to return it to the original owner).
We got our annual rip-off of Black Friday, but it's a joke.
If they want to really make a sale, they should actually sell stuff on sale, but they don't, instead, they let you buy anything with extended monthly pays, which is basically pointless with many stuff.
Many stores also increase the value of stuff like games and other stuff to insanely high prices before the sales-day, so that way the price gets reduced by just a small portion of the actual value .
I enjoy GTA, the first GTA game I played was GTA III, and there isn't any GTA game that has disappointed me to this point. GTA V is pretty good, but spending like 9,000MP just for playing it is too much. Anyways, I understand the limitations of the old version of the game (it still crashes frequently and runs slower compared to the new version).

While I believe a 300$ pc could be decent, that is not. Why even get an SSD for that setup? A standard 500GB drive would work so much better. 120GB is not enough unless you add a second drive

When did I ever say anything about using it to play games?
I was responding to this:
"300$ PC is not a pleasant experience overall even if you only browse web on it."
And this:
"A $300 desktop isn't that bad anymore. Even at that price a PC is overkill for most home user tasks which are office and web browsing."
120GB is not enough unless you add a second drive
120GB is more than enough if all you use is something like the Office-package and a web browser. An SSD is the obvious choice in a case like this, as it will make the system a whole lot faster and fluent than it would be with a mechanical storage solution
I don't have they money to buy an xbox 1 though and I don't want to buy it just to have a better uptdated gta v.
Then don't play an updated GTA V. It's about that simple.
