alabama is fucking disgrace [editline]12th December 2017[/editline]
I really hope that the allegations of vote suppression are merely allegations. Very few things infuriate me more than attempts at subverting democratic processes. It's especially weird because here in Australia, where although we do have compulsory voting, people are encouraged to come along and participate anyways through means such as voting always being on Saturdays, early voting being open weeks in advance, and sausage sizzles (a snag on a bun with a can of coke) happening at many polling places on the official election day. Meanwhile in the US, it seems that efforts are made to discourage people from voting?
efforts are made to discourage specific people from voting
more like "may you be able to vote at all"
Yeah, you are right, fix'd above.

If things were completely fair they'd never win a majority anywhere again. Once the boomers die off the party will change to appeal to the demographics again and this won't be nessecary.

I don't know how deep in the backwoods Moore went to find him, but he found him.
The literal sounds of silence.
He is confronted by reality for a few seconds before rejecting it and going back to saying that Trump swore on a bible so that means he is correct.
Honestly, though, you can see it in his eyes. You watch him confront the reality of it, realize that he's wrong, and then willfully disregard the fact with an affirmation that he must be right because he feels right. You see the entire thought process play out across his face. This is the state of US politics today. For a larger and larger section of the Conservative right, reality is now subjective.

I'm an optimist who probably puts too much faith in the people of Alabama to make the right choice so I still see Jones winning, but I'm also looking forward to the celebrations from the right if a Republican wins a race in a state that should never have been this close anyway.

In the case of Republican voter suppression efforts, that means anyone who's likely to vote Democrat, no joke. But, specifically, blacks, the poor, and the college/young-adult vote are the most frequent targets. And that's because American democracy is diseased by the two-party divide turning into a sports rivalry that happens to control national and state policy in the most powerful country in the western world.

Even if they eject him as soon as he enters office, he still won. I feel like that'll definitely rev some bluer peoples' motors and get them voting in the midterm.
This is the funniest thing I've seen all day
To be honest I didn't know you could swear on anything but the bible in the US. I mean, you guys have IN GOD WE TRUST on your god damn money, for fucks sake.

I don't think anyone could straightfacedly argue against suppressing the misinformed/uninformed vote by educating those voters and turning it into an informed vote...except the GOP.
This is the funniest thing I've seen all day
I did a thing.
Polls closing soon. Check here for live results as they come in

And the nail-biting begins
CNN's exit poll has Moore ~1 point ahead of Jones. It's looking to be very close http://fivethirtyeight.com/live-blog/alabama-senate-election-results/?lpup=13822116#livepress-update-13822116
Good luck. Hope this doesn't go awful for you folks.
Even if (and lets be real, he probably will) Roy wins, it isnt a good sign for the GOP that a senate race in fucking alabama is this close.
Got to wonder how many Republican members of Congress are praying Moore doesn't win
Even if (and lets be real, he probably will) Roy wins, it isnt a good sign for the GOP that a senate race in fucking alabama is this close.
I'm hoping that even if Moore wins this will have enlightened some previously milquetoast, 'just because they're Republicans' voters who would vote for the plain jane Marvel Comics President republican put infront of them in the past to the prospects of voting Democrat.
To be honest I didn't know you could swear on anything but the bible in the US. I mean, you guys have IN GOD WE TRUST on your god damn money, for fucks sake.
They added that in the 50's because they were afraid of Communism. Not kidding.
Even if (and lets be real, he probably will) Roy wins, it isnt a good sign for the GOP that a senate race in fucking alabama is this close.
In fairness; not all future Republicans are very likely to have something as objectively terrible to everyone, as a sex scandal involving minors. Republican voters have no problem voting for misogynistic and racist candidates; but I'm sure Moore crossed a line among many voters. He's still going to win, but I wouldn't take these results as evidence of Republican voters shifting to Democrats in response to the Trump administration just yet(unfortunately).
looking at the 538 coverage is fun, because they're all basically saying 'we have no fucking idea what's gonna happen it's so close' over and over
Got to wonder how many Republican members of Congress are praying Moore doesn't win
Depends, how many Republicans are both smart, and willing to consider long-term consequences? Moore winning would be bad for Republicans, long-term. He's a showboat - he's not going to sit quietly, he's going to be a regular feature in the news, and that means the pedophile thing isn't going to ever go away. And he's borderline alt-right: it was bad enough the GOP presidential primary got hijacked by the alt-right, but if it makes it into the Senate, that's a potential party split, because mainstream neocon Republicans do not get along with the alt-right. And he might not even be a reliable party vote - he might be one of those crazy Republican reps who blows up big bills if he doesn't get his pet cause.
I wonder if people from Alabama get tired of hearing "sweet home alabama" Because I imagine that's going to be playing very loudly today for a Fair few people
Fully expecting the dumb fucks to elect a pedophile. I hate this country
That 8%
that's the mentality in a nutshell. you either think it's fake or if you are the few that do believe you don't even care because the other option is a democrat
