I still stick by we need better parents. Internets parents died and we asked what his parents got him for christmas. That didn't go over well.
You can't 'shut down' the internet, sure you can maybe get ISPs to shut down traffic, but the bill says 'critical information network' which shouldn't include any ISPs that we use
The privacy laws being ignored are the downer, and it probably won't pass unless it's been revised to be way more specific
I like how everybody likes the idea of socialism until they realize
A.) They only want to be in charge
B.) As it was with russia, Nobody left office alive

Silly America, if you shut down the internet you cripple the global economy! Why, fancy America crippling the global economy from its recklessness! It's laugha-
Oh.
Maybe they should just give everyone the power of access to all private and public networks regardless of security laws. That way, there'd be no privacy on the internet and people would learn to use really strong encryption!
I don't think it will pass. Or I really hope it won't. And really, this is Communism. I'm not jumping on the bandwagon, but the Government deciding things like this is utter Communism.

Er, you mean Fascism?
Er, you mean Fascism?
Wait, those aren't the same things?!
I NEVER KNEW!
All this means is if anything on the internet threatens national security, he will have the authorization to shut it down.
IMO, this bill needs to pass.
He cannot and will not completely shut down the entire internet. It is impossible to do so. Plus it would ruin the economy (again).
Iran would be having kittens if they could do this. Most internet traffic doesn't run through Iran, but a lot of traffic passes through the US. Imagine if they could've shut down Twitter!

THIS IS TOTALITY AND CENSURE, NOT COMMUNISM!
Neither of these MUST be part of communism (though they usually are, they don't have to)

Black people aren't words?.. Shit. Call the police... Wait, they're probably on the way already.
what are the point of privacy laws if a person can just a make a law that says this one can ignore those laws?
Because we all want another Hitler!

Wow. I'm talking about how people don't give a shit about anything regarding politics, even if it's going to fuck them over because their own apathy and ignorance... and then you called me this, proving my point.
Thanks.

Yeah, but if you say something like "black people are genetically inferior", it generally means your opinion is as valid as someone who thinks the black helicopters are coming to get him.

I think the real ignorant people are the ones who write a big ol' paragraph about how Americans are sheeple despite how this bill only applies to systems like defense networks.
It's kind of worrying, since America still holds rights to a large amount of the internet (after all, they did invent it). I guess it is important that Obama has his priorities right with the rise of "cyber terrorism" (aka nerds from another country, stealing files and opening porn via remote access).

on the second note. if there is a disaster and he needs all the band with he can get. fine with me. but if its like. "Doing it for fun guys! sorry!"
What sort of disaster would require the internet bearing in mind it's not like 9/11 when telephone and radio frequencies were needed to organise everyone and everything.
no
Indeed.

Are you fucking serious? America didn't invent the internet. Seriously?

Ah, but your assuming I did. There was another thread where it stated that people from Asian countries focus on mainly the eye's when interpreting facial expressions. Considering my knowledge of the human brain in that simulations of spatial environments and places are hard-coded into the hypocampus, I theorized that it could have been caused by a slightly different brain structure, and that it could have been genetic. Thereafter it descended into ignorant internet shitstorm.

And how often do you know of conditions where the law is stretched to cover loose ends? Maybe having "civilian contractors", or "private security", turn out to be mercenaries, ring a bell? If you give a stranger cash to hold, chances are they're going to take it and run. How would giving someone power be any different?

First, the terms "Civilian Contractors" and "Private Security" are pretty much defined as mercenaries in the first place, so there's really no surprise there. Not sure who you think is trying to "cover up" the hiring of mercenaries.
Second, the chances of this bill even being brought to a vote in the first place are quite low, and it's so new that anything written in it now would almost certainly be completely rewritten before it is popular enough to be voted on.
Third, the content of the actual bill is taken completely out of context by this source and it doesn't apply to privately owned databases and websites.

What possible emergency would require all the Internet of America? Some kind of Internet powered lazor gun?
Also,
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
To the people saying "you can't just shut down the internet" this is true, however, he has the power to order the American ISP's to stop their service for the given time of said "emergency"
