DarkCisco is going to see a lot of action
on a computer monitor
DarkCisco can be my wingman anytime.
man I heard the air force once had to go a whole week without air conditioning
I have a friend in the Air Force. He says it's actually very boring.
Autumn, I uh, I don't want this to sound like a demand or anything, but I would just really really like it if you changed Darkcisco's ban from 7 days to 'The rest of forever'
Anyway, back onto the actual topic.
This really sucks, why the fuck would they not help him with his mental problems?

They probably couldn't afford it
:v:
A part of me wishes we still had the draft, because at least more people would be flipping their shit over the stupid things military does.
Then again, I don't wanna be in the military.
That's fucking garbage, I used to want to join the military but it's obviously crooked.
It's either the wife or the Army not telling the truth,
it's the army

When did this turn into an anti-Air Force thread?
My feelings are hurt~
Maybe he thought that if he just kept doing it he would be alright but made the wrong choice?
Don't they screen people or something? Someone with post traumatic stress obviously should not go on another tour.
You know why I think this is odd?
All branches of the military say they are downsizing. Recruiters have met their quota, a lot of the time, and the army and the navy are cutting personnel.
But since Rangers are a sort of SOF, I'm guessing that the Army invested a lot of time and money training this person. Because of tighter budgets, they don't want to spend a LOT of money training recruits into new SOF personnel, so they want current SOF troops to keep operating to cut costs. It's obvious that this person is a very experienced operator, having served 6 tours at the minimum.
But then again, I could be wrong
You'd be surprised how much shit the Air Force really sees.
Yeah, latrines don't clean themselves you know.
"In the last month, he put a gun to his head three times. He told me every day was a struggle to wake up and want to live," Joppa-Hagemann said. "He said the things he had seen and done, no God would have forgiven him."
This made me the depressed...
Maybe if we went back to calling it shell shock or war fatigue instead of PTSD people would take it more seriously.
Now it's "Oh no, he's been through some stress, I'm sure he'll be ok." NO.

It is more of a thing that the majority of people that go into the air force end up doing a support job, not flying on the front lines. In 2009 the US air force had 5,573 manned aircraft, but had 330,000 personal on active duty. Most people end up in the support role, which is a fair bit different than the army. The support people occupy positions of relative safety when compared to people who see action, so at times soldiers can get envious.
Even completing 6 rotations is more than enough for anyone, especially when in a unit like the rangers. If they want to do more, they should see a physiatrist to make sure that they are alright (think of The Hurt Locker), and at the very least get a bit of a break.
You know, you shouldn't join the RANGERS if you don't want to get deployed a lot. Thats their purpose any who, not that I can't sympathize with the guy because my brothers both served. I love our boys in green and I hope they come home, but the RANGERS aren't kiddy shit by any means. You're practically signing up and trying out to get shipped out.
Poor guy though, may his soul rest easy.

I'm pretty sure most people would have had their share of war for a lifetime and a bit more after 4 tours.
In 2010, Hagemann received a glowing evaluation with top marks; raters noted his unparalleled loyalty to the Army and Rangers, and his outstanding potential. Later that year, he would return to Afghanistan for another combat tour. The tours lasted, on average, about four months, according to the Army.
His wife said he was growing increasingly frustrated and repeatedly asked to leave the Rangers unit. The Army's DeSantis said the battalion leadership was not aware of any such request from him.
From the sounds of it he was a great soldier, and he was apparently asking to leave the rangers after his eighth tour. He was probably very eager at the start, but war changes people.

No doubt, it takes a certain kind of person to join the RANGERS and serve so many damn times and still stay sane.
Unless you absolutely live and breath for the army you should be able to opt out of another tour after an x amount.
Since nobody even reads the contracts they sign when they join the military, they pretty much sign over their life.

A lot of people have PTSD in the military. It's a common thing and isn't combat inhibiting, they do screen people as well. They do have mental health services wherever you go, especially with the Marines. Hell half of the Marine Corp has PTSD (I'm a Psychiatric Tech).
Rangers are a different group of soldiers, they're supposed to be the baddest, toughest and meanest mofos in the army. If he were to ask for therapy and PTSD help, his squadmates would probably give him shit for it, or the therapist would tell him to suck it up.
Actually no, he'd probably have to finish his tour and the he'd immediatly be re-evaluated by several psychologists. If he's deemed unfit, they give him an honorable discharge and wish him the best of luck.
Its the ending that gets most soldiers but its always been like that.

Rangers are just one step away from Green berets, you know the guys that eat, shit and make love with combat :v:
I misread the title and thought he killed himself to avoid a Nine Inch Nails tour for the military.
[sp]I would too[/sp]

Thanks for having both legs and an arm blown off for the cause. Have fun with the rest of your life. :)
The fact that i'm engaged, and wanting to join the Army, and become a Ranger, kinda puts it in a whole new light. How long do I want to serve? I would love to be able to come back and see my beautiful wife, and my future kids.
Fuck, I feel so bad for his family.
I don't really accept that the army as a whole would just let him deploy knowing that.
You can't accept that the army would deploy him simply because he wanted to do exactly what they were in Afghanistan to do? He didn't say "take care of the Muslims," he didn't say "take care of the Afghanis," he said "bad guys" i.e. the Taliban and al Qaeda. He felt like the U.S. needed revenge against al Qaeda and the Taliban government which was sheltering them.
If anything that's exactly what the army would be looking for. You think you're going to find someone willing to be Ranger who's only in the army to pay for college?

Hey Rangers don't die, they just go to hell to regroup.

You think you get a choice in how long you serve?
Try reading the contracts that they'll try to rush you through.
On the Air-Force not, it takes three engineers to support one pilot/plane.
