I don't know what to believe.
I don't wish to sound like a smartass, but I'm putting out a small bet right now... ITT: Weed is Legalized. After weed is legalized sure... For about a week to three months people will be smoking, and be celebrating. You know what will most likely happen though? They'll drop it. Why? No thrill, no attention, just a small amount of cash burning from the wallet. Only those who actually use it for, "Feeling Good" , "Pain Relief" , and "Cooking" would keep it going. I don't mean to sound like a dick by saying this, but... Weed will most likely die once it's legal.
Did people stop drinking once it became legal? Of course not, since it is, like weed, something fun to consume with friends.
Just pray it passes.
Canada's just a few years away from legalization or decriminalization, I live in Vancouver, and go to 420 every year, and 10-20 thousand people smoking pot out in the open is a pretty impressive event. Also, your friends were idiots with, or without pot. That's why they're idiots after. There will be a legal age limit on it, so you and your friends couldn't smoke it.
Yeah I agree, they were idiots, but the truth is that many people aren't very responsible with drugs. I don't really see what legalizing it will achieve. Look at alcohol - some people choose to abuse it and it leads to very ugly things. I'm not saying weed will kill people - my argument is that people aren't very responsible with such substances, and I fear that legalizing it will only encourage it more. I mean as it stands, having weed as an illegal substance means to most people that your forced to consume it in your own privacy. You can safely enjoy it from your own home if your careful about how you get high. What's so wrong about that?

People are arrested for enoying it in the privacy of their own home all the time.
No it does not. Having in-depth conversations can get very confusing.
Well I can assume you're correct, if you were to smoke enough of the shit to send yourself to another planet. I'm talking the kind of smokers who take a couple of hits and that's it. Now I myself have known both kinds of smokers (the recreationals and the "duuuude, I can't see my eyes..." kind of smokers), and the former are the ones who claim it helps them focus better. And considering most of them were in college and getting great grades I'm somewhat inclined to believe them.
Would be sold by officials then, and still illegal to be sold by street dealers? Because that would make it safer, because you don't smoke a pack of rat poison that some douche sold you.
What makes alcohol different is that it's a drink, and people need to drink. I guess it's unfair of me to say that I don't want weed legalised because I don't want to smoke it... But I don't want it to be smoked in public, and right now people DON'T smoke it in public because they'll get into trouble with the law. But people still smoke cigarettes on the street and it really pisses me off because it plays shit with my lungs. I thought it was meant to be illegal to smoke in public places? Jesus. Oh, which brings me to my next point - Alcohol is only damaging to yourself, and not others around you. You might be ENCOURAGED to drink if someone in front of you is doing so, but if someone smokes in front of you, you can still inhale their smoke. Alcohol is completely safe in that regard - Having it around isn't dangerous at all, only if YOU drink it, and too much/too often.
That was the worst argument ever Darth. Alcohol dehydrates the body as water is drawn to the stomach to increase it's digestion and metabolise the alcohol.
That was the worst argument ever Darth. Also, don't forget the same goes for fizzy drinks, fruit juice/squash, hot drinks, milk and basically anything that isn't water. But we need to drink some sort of liquid.
The rest implies grass is dangerous, it's nothing like alcohol, a physically addictive substance capable of killing people when they are addicted and try to give it up. And just because it gets legalised hardly means folk are gonna swarm the streets puffing joints.

And just because it gets legalised hardly means folk are gonna swarm the streets puffing joints.
I didn't at any point suggest that it was dangerous in general. I really couldn't care less if people smoked it - it's their choice. What I don't want is to have people smoking in public; it's bad enough with cigarettes, but legalising it without restriction would cause more people to be out and about smoking it. As long as it's restricted to your home, or at least certain areas, and as long as it's enforced, I'm happy.
But it would be restricted to certain areas.
Then I'm happy as long as they're: A) Not areas I have/would like to go to regularly B) Enforced by the police to make sure that it doesn't happen elsewhere.
Fuck yeah I hope it passes. Then I'd be all "brb moving to California"
Then I'm happy as long as they're: A) Not areas I have/would like to go to regularly B) Enforced by the police to make sure that it doesn't happen elsewhere.
it's not like people are gonna walk up to you and blow smoke in your face. marijuana secondhand smoke is not going to fucking kill you or damage you in anyway. it's different from tobacco smoke (it also smells less like shit and it doesn't stick to your clothes). you're just being selfish. seriously, the worst you might see is a guy walking down the street with a joint or a few guys in a park (which still happens now even if it's illegal) , it's not like it'll be everywhere choking people. and if you're STILL uptight about you can politely ask them to stop smoking. in any case, you probably should have read prop 19 because it won't allow smoking it in public.
I'm for this, but I don't smoke weed, I don't need drugs to have a good time. I just hope there won't be people really high all over the place.

I would hate it, in fact I DO hate it just as much when cigarette smokers do the same. Whether or not people blow it in my face is irrelevant, I don't want to be around it. You call me selfish, I call it individual rights. [editline]08:39PM[/editline] To me, having to breathe in someone else's smoke would be like an invasion of my personal space.
If you've researched and know about weed and what it is and you still want it to stay illegal then you're just a fucking dumbass, there is no hope for you, go to North Korea please.
I'm interested to see what happens as a result of this. I've been tempted to at least TRY pot a time or two, but company drug tests have prevented me from doing so for fear of losing whatever work I can find. (I hear it helps people who have trouble focusing)
As with any drug, the effects can vary from person to person. Alcohol, for example, just makes me depressed the majority of the time when I take it. I have trouble focusing myself a lot of the time and find that weed helps me with this even though I only use it once or twice a month.
if you are a fp stoner, or merely a casual user, we shall meet after this passes and pass around a massive legal joint and speak of greatness...
i live in holland so weed is legal :D

Cannabis remains a controlled substance in the Netherlands and both possession and production for personal use are still misdemeanors, punishable by fine. Coffee shops are also technically illegal according to the statutes but, as has been said, are flourishing nonetheless. However, a policy of non-enforcement has led to a situation where reliance upon non-enforcement has become common, and because of this the courts have ruled against the government when individual cases were prosecuted.
no it's still illegal, just nobody cares
