which is more important imo, I tried too hard in highschool, got some super duper high GPA above 4.0, now I hate school :suicide:
So you're bad at math, that doesn't mean you won't get a job.

I'm pretty lenient with most of the posts here, if you've made some attempt to mitigate your racism I've given you a pass for now, but know that this kind of posting is still racism and I will take it more seriously in the future.
So you're bad at math, that doesn't mean you won't get a job.
In an Asian country (I think it was China or Japan or something) there are two types of students, one being good in math and the other being bad at it. Of course, math doesn't really require skill only experience and learning, but that's not what the government thinks. Anyway, the latter group has a lower chance of getting a job due to their low math "skill" and getting in this group could even end with these people killing themselves. What the father did was taking this mentality to the UK whereas he discovered that his daughter is not on an acceptable level when it comes to understanding math and considers it shameful, so he sees no other choice than abandoning her.
Fuck, I'm glad my parents aren't like that.
The last couple of years I've been doing pretty poorly in maths...

I don't think I know a single place on Earth where I don't hate the attitude towards education.
Umm yes it is racist actually. Don't try to excuse yourself.
I'm not, because its actually true.

Whatever.
Then you'll look like an idiot killing a puppy over a forum ban.
Which you're not going to do anyways.

LOL? this is considered racist? it's just a stereotypical way of typing something in an asian accent.. and it's a stereotype for a reason because it can be true a lot

It does seem to be more of a stereotype than racism, but the ban still makes sense in its own way. Not going to argue with it.
Despite the irony that is the racist stereotype, it's pretty fucked up to actually abandon your child due to a bad grade. I mean, if they were the average 2012 youth, in which they don't even try or care for education, it'd still be out of question. It's your fucking kid for crying out loud, who can actually just abandon their own child and be okay with it?
Why are megafan and starpluck mods again?
C is failing in my book.
This is my attitude too. I hate getting Cs now with my newfound motivation to do better. I've got almost straight A's this school year with one B in either my Rhetoric or Psychology class.
I feel bad even when I get a B because I know I could have gotten an A.
Umm yes it is racist actually. Don't try to excuse yourself.
I wouldn't call it racism as such, it's just stereotyping. It's a well known fact that education and academic success is very highly valued in Asian cultures - those jokes or comments about having hard ass, demanding Asian parents aren't without basis in reality, there's a great deal of truth to them.
Kids in western cultures don't really have such a great deal of pressure put on them to perform well academically compared to those in Asian cultures, so it's not unreasonable to presume the guy in question would be Asian. Sure, it COULD have been a white dad, or a black dad, but it was probably more statistically likely that he'd be Asian (and lo and behold he is Asian!).
Why are megafan and starpluck mods again?
Because they follow the rules and ban people for them?

It's essentially like making some joke about watermelon in a thread about a black person, or saying that a woman should get back to the kitchen. They're rooted in racism and sexism, respectively.
It's essentially like making some joke about watermelon in a thread about a black person, or saying that a woman should get back to the kitchen. They're rooted in racism and sexism, respectively.
But the problem I'm seeing with this is that education and academic success IS incredibly important in Asian cultures. I don't really think that's up for debate. I'm sure a white kid who grew up in a traditional Asian household would probably perform better academically than if the same kid had grown up in your regular western household simply because there's more riding on academic success in one culture compared to the other. It's got nothing to do with the colour of their skin, it's got to do with the culture that they've grown up in.
And it's unsurprising to me that most people who had a traditional Asian-oriented cultural upbringing are Asian, hence why it seemed fairly likely that the article would be about an Asian person.

Well if it were a story about a black guy dying of watermelon overconsumption, I could see the temptation. Probably wouldn't go for it though, I don't really get the whole black people loving watermelon thing.
People make Chinese Parent jokes for the same reason they make Fat American jokes and Posh Brit jokes. It's more about the culture than the skin tone methinks.
Not that there aren't people to whom it is about the skin tone. But then there's always that guy.

Well as it should be apparent to you right now, there's a world of difference between saying what you've just said, and this:
