Yeah, that video is very telling about how the Republicans actually were going to act in regard to discussing the bill. They weren't about to do any debating, they were about to pass it as fast as they possibly could. Btw, Glaber, if you look at this post and then come crying "oh but the Democrats did the same with the health care bill" then I'm just going to know you didn't pay very much attention to the bill. If there was no discussion, why is the bill now so different from when it began?
Honestly if any Americans want to crash on my couch in Australia i'd be glad to get you away from there.

'Twas but a joke. I don't have the money for the plane ticket anyway.
Worst case scenario I'd rather go to Canada, it's closer, similar, and I have a good friend up there I might be able to stay with.

I think I am moving to Canada.
They have gay marriage and lack dumbfuck republicans.
Even with Belguim not being able to decide a goverment, French anti-piracy measurements, you're all still welcome in Europe

Throw a shoe at Obama, apply for political asylum.
I agree with Glaber here, guys. Why do we even need to discuss bills? If the Republican governor says we need to destroy collective bargaining, his will should go into effect immediately, no questions asked. Any public official who disagrees with that logic is a coward and deserves no say in how the United States of God bless America is run. :patriot:

attempts to get Republicans to vote for it. As far as I know, not all of it was revealed in the first place. we're still learning about hidden funding for the bill that never should of been in it.
As I've no viewed the quoted video, I can no longer support either side in this issue.
Voting is a protected right which may not be denied to citizens by the States or the federal government:
http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html#Am14
http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html#Am15
Given the primary effect of voting is to have effective representatives, and that is being denied, this would be an unconstitutional act.
An alternative punishment would not involve stopping them from voting. It doesn't matter what that particular punishment is, but preventing them from voting goes far, far beyond the realm of punishment. However, the punishment should be first given to the Republicans who did everything in their power to (successfully) bypass Democrats to eliminate key rights from citizens.
If the Democrats were trying to abuse the democratic process and deny rights to huge numbers of citizens, I would expect the Republicans to do whatever they can to stop them. "What's stopping the other side from doing it?" isn't the question/problem. "Why don't they defend rights more often?" is.
Ok, you won the constitutional argument, but the argument of collective bargaining being a right won't be so easy to win.
Oh and you might want to explain this one:
(4) Everyone has the right to form and to join trade unions for the protection of his interests.
Seem to me like this one gets violated plenty of times by the unions themselves. Specifically the protection of his interests part.
I may not be supporting what the democrats did, nor that law violation shown in the unedited video, but there is still one point that rubs me the wrong way. People thinking privileges are rights. Collective bargaining is not a right. It's a privilege.

There was still time for discussion, and time for the republicans to rape it

I think people should have the right to stand up for themselves and not be exploited economically

Who cares about whether or not it is A right, collective bargaining is the right thing to DO.
Seriously what the fuck.
I don't want to go :tinfoil: here but situation in America seems to get unstable to me.
I am not talking about anything like civil war but even mediocre destabilization can lead to world wide effects.
2011 is so far a fucking scary year.
Seeing all this shit happen in such quick succession, added on top of the idiots obviously causing a muck when 2012 comes, really scares me.

The guy making the argument who called it illegal sounds like a very smart man. The republicans however, dumb as hell.

I think he did. He said "now that I've seen the quoted video, I can't support either side".
Roe V. Wade already handles this rather elegantly
And here I thought that was about ocean transportation.

First: A trade union can't violate the right to join a trade union and be protected by it, because you can leave that union. Obviously this isn't practical most of the time, but it's a specious argument to be making at best.
Second: Eliminating unions isn't going to make things better.
Third: The United States agreed to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that I cited in my last post, so even the US agrees that it is a right to collectively bargain.
Fourth: Collective bargaining is a right, and it's a pretty easy thing to prove:
(1) People can talk to each other, and this is a protected right.
(2) People can make decisions, and this cannot be denied.
(3) People can leave their work if they choose to, and this is protected by law in most states.
Given (1), (2), and (3), Collective bargaining is a right, as it is merely a formalization of informal organization.
How can you defend denying people the right to decide things in groups, when it is so fundamental to a democracy?
Very eloquently put.

I'd rather go to England.....
Stupid Republicans and Democrats, can't even agree on one single issue.
Life would have been fantastic if we'd listen to George Washington and not have any political parties.
why do people act like political parties are something that's possible to eliminate in a democratic republic?
people with similar political interests are going to form groups, no amount of idealistic banter is going to stop this
It won't matter. The "land of the free, and the home of the brave" is fucke anyways
