So if you got electricuted would you get really hyper or just fizzle out?
Wait, so they say that nanotechnologies and mechanical body-mods will replace our human organs and functions?
Wont these surgeries and modifications essentially REMOVE our humanity?
+1 dumb.
Also I would not want to live forever.
but this technology could also make space colonization easier.
longer life or not, they still would have a hard time adapting to zero gravity environments

It's not like they are forcing you to, and you'd be able to think for yourself.
I never said "forcing", I'm just saying that the general human population may fall into this false illusion of "Immortality" and everywhere I go, I'll see robots Instead of humans, which is quite frankly a creepy future
I think some people here don't quite get immortality.
what they're talking about isn't true immortality, like that of a mythical figure. It's more like
your body and mind could live forever, but then again could be damaged beyond repair resulting in death.
It's not like scientists are talking about fusing every one of your atoms with your consciousness, thus
if you happen to be blown to bits, you're "still alive".
If you don't eat, breath, sleep, you're dead despite what science may do for you(other than sleep, however I think that is still a long way off)
oh god imagine the join date elitism
maybe bernie madoff can serve his entire sentence then.

too bad we will all be dead in a few years.
artificial vagina.
Mr Kurzweil calls his theory the Law of Accelerating Returns. Writing in The Sun, Mr Kurzweil said: "I and many other scientists now believe that in around 20 years we will have the means to reprogramme our bodies' stone-age software so we can halt, then reverse, ageing. Then nanotechnology will let us live for ever.
So Mikfoz could become young again?
:pcgaming:
This guy has some interesting points, even if most of his ideas come across as shit.
There's already too many people in the world so immortality for anyone accept for me would suck.

Nice way not to be selfish.
lol that's cuz humans are spiral beings
we're going to evolve so much that we destroy the universe
Considering We need oxygen to combine with Glucose to make "Energy" For our cells I don't think this will work. Also note I may have messed up on the Oxygen+Glucose = Energy thing

It's not real immortality. It's just not aging and not dying of diseases.
-snip-
Damn, I'll be almost 40 by then. I was hoping for it a little sooner so I can stay in my 20s or 30s.
They said they could reverse aging... so you could be a child when you grow up apparently
Not impressive in my opinion. When only a few people worldwide had phones, it was completely epic at the time. But now that almost everyone in non-third-world countries has 1 or more in their homes, it's not impressive. If we can write and read books in minutes, and everyone can do it, it's no longer impressive. And then we'll strive for more, like reading every book written from the year 1 to the year 2009 in seconds. And once that's done, we'll strive for more. And more. What we're really doing is evolving rapidly, and nobody will be impressed once everyone has it.
Anyone remember the Fountain of Youth from ~500 years ago? We still haven't found it, so I don't think we'll be immortal in 20 years.
Many of you who don't believe this report need to realize that aging is caused by 2 things: telomeres and radiation... which both essentially are damage to DNA. If you can control the damage done to your DNA, you can effectively halt aging. This is totally possible, and likely will happen within a generation.
As for how I feel about this... I think it's pretty damn awesome. Removes a lot of the stress from life. If you've got time, you've got all you need really.
I'll accept death, but don't want to die.
Oh wait?.

I'm pretty sure that being given the ability to live forever or read and write books in seconds is impressive, we live in the present not the future you know and who gives a shit if it's impressive or not when it's fucking useful?
The fact that things don't remain impressive motivates us to strive for more impressive things which is a good thing.
I don't even know what the point of your post was.
will i stay young?
Actually
Think about how big the population will get if no one dies
Yeah, although morbid to think about in this way, because of our new technology and medication, more people are kept alive and the increase of Earth's population has a faster rate than ever before.
We'll probably be gone before the shit hits the fan though.
On that note: HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY :D
Well if there happens to be an ice age in twenty years like some theories say, then concentration of carbon dioxide and a few other things will rapidly drop (atmosphere will cleanse, and most impurities would go into the ocean), and then an average lifespan would jump to about 400 years. That is, if you survive off course.
You need a PhD in biochemistry and a few things to prove that though so I'm not certain.
Just like a vampire
I wouldn't say we would be able to live longer but with some countries and their standard of living it wouldn't be surprising if we lived longer. Don't third world countries have the same life expectancy as the average person living in London in like the 1600-1700's?
