Damn, I'll be almost 40 by then. I was hoping for it a little sooner so I can stay in my 20s or 30s.

reprogramme our bodies' stone-age software so we can halt, then reverse, ageing
I'm looking forward to this. I'd love to see history, or perhaps even make our brains forget everything inbetween 2 points so basically it'd seem like you just skipped through time.
That shit would be cash.

The movie Click showed that this would be bad
The Fountain of Youth isn't anything to do with science though and most probably doesn't exist, so what's your point?
Immortality has been a goal for as long as humans have existed.
The Spanish conquistadors said pretty much the same thing as this scientist.
"We'll find the fountain of youth in x amount of time" 500 years later, nothing.

Conquistadors weren't scientists though.. They were looking for a thing that doesn't exist, this is actually possible. (maybe a little longer time span though)
ok i gotta stay alive for at least 20 years more
I remember reading an article on why immortality would suck. The part of your brain that handles time and such degrades over time, so eventually you won't have any memories of anything, won't know what's going on, and will literally only live in the moment for billions of years until eventually the sun does that expanding thing, and you'll just forever float in space with no memories or anything at all.
So yeah, there's kind of a reason people die.
Exactly, if I had to live forever I'd never get to retire. No way in Hell I'm working for 1000 years.
Aww shit.... I never thought of that...
Actually
Think about how big the population will get if no one dies

but this technology could also make space colonization easier.
We are Borg. Your cultural and technological aspects will be added to our own. Resistance is futile.

We'll still kill each other, just now we wont die from old age.

Hahahahah
Wow, I know this is extremely far-fetched, but I can dream, can't I?

Cuz their cells die before they can be replaced?
Getting old just is just a matter of wear and tear, now imagine a world where there is no wear and tear but the longer you go the better you get.
We'd be unstoppable.
Not only would this allow for more happy lives, but more knowledge would be obtained and stupid people would be phased out.
Oh, and I give you bad reading because the article states that machines and other things will assist the body, that doesn't mean somebody can't kill you.
We die for a reason, we would be old, crippled, and wishing we were dead after enough time
Am I the only one that thinks this may not be the best direction for the human race as a whole?
We die for a reason, we would be old, crippled, and wishing we were dead after enough time
Why old and crippled if everything gets replaced/repaired?

Hahahahah
Still
Alot of deaths are from old age and the take out that that's still a huge addition to the population
Actually with the effiecient bloodstream too and the artificial organs that might get rid of heart risks which is another addition to the population
We are Borg. Your cultural and technological aspects will be added to our own. Resistance is futile.
that is very possible, because as people become interconnected, they also begin to act almost like a brain cell, forming one large consciousness. and then (I think) all sentient life would do this eventually, then the various planets begin to intercommunicate until each galaxy becomes one consciousness, and the process repeats until the universe becomes one great mind.
I feel like I might receive dumbs for that, but I think it is a possible future.
Actually

Space colonies.
We're getting too cramped on this big rock, there's other places out there for the taking.
Imagine gettig cancer and dying a week before they give you immortality.

once again, the fountain. watch it.
Space colonies.

There's no place like home though
and then we would be having to kick off future generations which means sending your grandkids/kids/great grand kids off into the final frontier
Imagine gettig cancer and dying a week before they give you immortality.
You died right when you get the injection.

Home sickness isn't really a reason to keep from planet colonization.
Also, I don't think it'd work like that. Sure, we'd have immortality, but I don't think expansion would be that big of a problem to split families apart.
Also, the universe is a big place. Whether or not we're alone in it there's plenty of stuff out there for the taking.
..hologram like figures will pop in our brain to explain what is happening.
Imagine driving and having some huge creature popup as your GPS.
There was a book with similar visual technology called Rainbows End. In short, the government had eyes and ears everywhere through the technology and could drop in at any time to take you in.
Viruses could be a pain though.
I wouldn't want to live forever though. However, using it to live long enough to traverse the known universe could be cool.

Main question is, if you had the ability to, would you do this?
(just entered thread)
Everyone thinks most of this stuff sounds way to crazy and it would fuck up our world completely. But the thing is, this shit will be fucking expensive. Most people will NOT be able to go have virtual sex or have nanobots making their brains smarter. Even if the nanobots are dirt cheap to make, there will only be a few corporations that will offer these services and they will be very expensive. Think about Porsche or Ferrari, it's not nearly as expensive to make those cars as compared to their price tag, but they want them to be expensive so they can be unique.
But if it does come to the day were you can buy these nanobots in a fucking soda can on the streets and gas stations; then we are all fucked.
