fuck I would've ages by 20 years!
what?
Sounds fun.
Organisms die so there can be an equilibrium in the environment. Look at the amount of damage we can cause with a finite life, now imagine how bad things will get if we aren't working against the clock. Immortality will just kill us quicker in the end.
K, you stay mortal in the mean time I'm going to huff nanobots and build space ships and fly across the galaxy n shit.
What if the nanobots shut down in some kind of accident.
Also how are they planning on testing this on a person?
If we somehow will have the means to be immortal, expect it to cost a lot, most probably millions of €/£/$, that way few will be able to buy it.
So yeah, start working your ass off (if you are in school keep studying hard) if you want something like an eternal (or most probably just a very long) life.
Then you're not immortal so thread title fails.
Immortality and invincibly are different.
You guys are throwing the word immortality around too much
To be trully immortal means that you cannot be killed, either it be from natural causes (Which is what we are talking about), or bullets, or whatever.
Theres a word for this but i can't find it, but calling it immortality is wrong.
all the old people gonna rage now
And soon we're all human replicators
What if an EMP blast comes and knocks our nanobots offline, thus killing anyone who has them in important areas (heart, liver, etc.)?
Millions dead in a second.
Guys, by the time we get immortality we'll probably have some sort of cyber-brain enhancements and mind-machine interfaces, so no infinite Alzheimers. More like infinite storage.

The nanobots would only be used to create organ REPLACEMENTS, not be organs themselves.
Also, they'll probably be made of organic materials (carbon etc) and powered by proteins so EMP is not really much of an issue here.
Sounds cool man
Hasn't anyone thought of that the older we get the less we notice the time. Like, your grannies always saying "20 years ago I was.." etc, it's because they are old.
Think how fast one year would be for our brain when we're +250 years old.

Can't be bothered reading through 5 pages when this thread was posted in this section, things go too fast.
[editline]02:10PM[/editline]
Oh, that post
[editline]02:11PM[/editline]
Sure, but if we get nanobrains or whatever, should we even be considered humans anymore?
Imagine zombies bullit to the brain goodbye Infinete pain hello. I mean if we die due to say something like oxygen depletion then we would run out of air sooner than later we would need to breath and each time we die we get reanimated and when the world goes we would be floating through space till we die....

Longevity?
Wait a second we can give ourselfs immortality but we cant put a man on mars?
Scientist Ray Kurzweil
ha
hahahaha
Hahahahahahahahaha
This guy says something to this effect every five minutes, he has no idea what he's talking about.
Longevity?
Close, but no
Oasis was right! We're gonna live forever!
If I don't die by then, I shall live forever.
Unless it's really expensive.
Or I don't want to live forever.
Shit this also means that Dane Cook may never die!

"nooooooooooooooo"
Fuck this, I'd rather live a good life of 90 years than an extremely boring one where I remain a withered old man for <100 years. Then I can crumble into the ground happy, and then God picks me up and is like yo you be rollin wit me now
I JUST WANNA LIVE FOREVVEERRRRRr
Hopefully I'll be the man that develops this technology.

until you realize there is no god.
and even if god does exist, I don't ever want to meet him.
Never the Man will find the Immortality.
