Ghost in the Shell becoming a reality
:awesomelon:
You guys are throwing the word immortality around too much
To be trully immortal means that you cannot be killed, either it be from natural causes (Which is what we are talking about), or bullets, or whatever.
Theres a word for this but i can't find it, but calling it immortality is wrong.
This man speaks the truth. To clarify what Kurzwiel was actually on about, look at the wiki page on biological immortality.
"Heart-attack victims – who haven't taken advantage of widely available bionic hearts – will calmly drive to the doctors for a minor operation as their blood bots keep them alive.
"Damned, my heart failed again, brb."
If this would be the truth it would be awesome. I mean, we awesome rich people get to live forever, and have superpowers. Weak people shall die eventually, and then we can spend our eternity to dominate planets in our ever expanding universe. And then sell them to Aliens. Like Saiyans, except better.
And then we'll go to some planet and find Dragon Balls and bring Michael Jackson, Elvis and Jimi Hendrix back to life.
I shall live forever
How pissed would you be if you died the day before they launched it.
How pissed would you be if you died the day before they launched it.
If I'd go to hell after that happens I'd be so pissed I'd kick Satan in the nuts and then kill him and become Satan myself.
If I'd go to heaven I'll just pull a Jesus
How pissed would you be if you died the day before they launched it.
You wouldn't. You'd be dead.
Can't be bothered reading through 5 pages when this thread was posted in this section, things go too fast.

Oh, that post
[editline]02:11PM[/editline]
Sure, but if we get nanobrains or whatever, should we even be considered humans anymore?
Thanks for noticing me :)
Anyway, that's a very good question.
In my opinion, it's all up to you. It doesn't really matter though. What would matter is that you'd be an immortal (not indestructible however) sentient free to live forever and experience everything.
Yes my plan will now work hahahahah fools
Not if the creationists have anything to say about it we won't.
Weren't we also supposed to have flying cars as a common transportation method since 9 years ago? :v:
Hasn't anyone thought of that the older we get the less we notice the time. Like, your grannies always saying "20 years ago I was.." etc, it's because they are old.
Think how fast one year would be for our brain when we're +250 years old.
Yes, on page one.

Also, to all the people who said "Oh, we'll fix that too"
We can fix that issue I'm sure, but what about the sun expanding and then turning into a white dwarf or whatever? Then we either die, and it isn't immortality, or we float on aimlessly WITH our memories etc slowly degrading until we get to the point that we can't remember anything at all.

Interstellar travel. Ever heard of it? Hell, we don't even need to go to another star system to construct completely self-sufficient, space based colonies.
Weren't we also supposed to have flying cars as a common transportation method since 9 years ago? :v:
That's ridiculously impractical. I blame the media.
All we need to do is overwrite people's brains and turn our cities into oversized ant colonies.
Think about how many people die from accidents, war etc, and how many people die from old age. People will still die, even if the population is ever accelerating.
I want a codec!
cool
Virtual sex will become commonplace.
:v:
I hope I don't die in 20 years then.
I honestly can't see why someone wouldn't want to do this.
You can go on about it becoming boring and shit but I would much prefer boredom to nothing. Boredom can be cured and at least I'm still feeling something.
Then again I really don't think this is going to happen.
You know what would suck?
Getting run over to death by a bus on your way to the immortality clinic
You know what would suck even more?
Getting run over to death by a yugo on your way to the immortality clinic
Perhaps this will get rid of all the crazy superstitious people in the world, and only leave us sane people.
Oh and of course.
Get Existentialism out of here boy, this be a science thread.
It's not even Existentialism, it's just generic "AWMAHGAWD, teh matricks is reel!"
Living forever would be awful. It's the exact same principle as paradise after death. Immortality just undermines the value of our mortal lives.

the value of the time within those lives is reduced, but the value of the life it self is infinitely increased.
Cool, overpopulate the earth even further more!
It'd take at least 1000 years to get bored of all the things to do on this planet. I could happily live forever.
If it'll help me live to see half-life 3 i'm all for it.
