We have a good idea on how to deflect them, but that's absolutely useless if we can't spot one coming at us.
Though the sky is quite large, I'm sure the closer they get the easier they'll be to spot and thus deal with. And the bigger & more dangerous they are, the easier they'll be to spot.
Unless we someone find a way to terraform the Earth.I think the Earth will be a toxic waste dump in 100 or 200 years 300 if we're lucky.
You realise that terraforming is simply changing a dead lifeless planet into something that can sustain life right? Earth will be capable of sustaining life right up to the point where it is swallowed by the sun. In 100 years we'll have Nuclear Fusion sorted out and that'll be our power source, since there's pretty much nothing that we can currently envisage which can top it and we will be able to clean up the planet quite easily.
The technology will be mind blowing for sure too bad we'll be dead.
Probably not to be honest, there's a lot of research going on into actually fighting the problems associated with aging, plus there's human trials going on in Ecaudor on telomare repairing which would drastically increase how robust DNA is in later life. On top of that there's a ton of research going into repairing the damage taken by cells and the bodies repair systems as we age.
Hopefully within a couple centuries we would have some form of interstellar travel,
Send a colony ship to Chiron and watch people group into 7 different ideological factions.
