i am quite apprehensive and unjust in my questioning of particular thoughts, and i apologize for any distress i've caused to you with my queries, Mr_Awesome.
on my end, i'll keep this as a place where you can flog your opinion and retract in the stead of presenting a response like a functioning forumgoer would.
Sorry but you're going to have to change a lot more than that to get anybody interested in Win8 (or 8.1).
Now Win8 looks even more similar to the OS most people are already using. They have even less reason to upgrade than they did before.
you can never win with facepunch can't you
But it's [sp] ugly [/sp]
Also [sp] it looks like a tablet / touch screen computer, which I'm not used to at all, and is really my only real turn-off about Windows 8, and the reason I still have 7 even though I was offered a free Windows 8. [/sp]
it's not ugly

Will you stop flaming already? We both have and are entitled to our own opinions, there's no need to antagonize because of it.

I sort of wish the guy who designed metro would receive ass cancer and suffocate on fire.
I sort of wish the guy who designed metro would receive ass cancer and suffocate on fire.
Metro originated in like the 90's man and then they used it for zune as an alternative to whatever the fuck they were making. Metro is great with a touchscreen, not a mouse + keyboard set up
I sort of wish the guy who designed metro would receive ass cancer and suffocate on fire.
I like you.
not a mouse + keyboard set up
why not? you can still do pretty much everything that the start menu does + some more

I would not mind metro in the slightest if it was an optional feature and not a replacement.
I don't really care if they give us the features we wanted in 8.1, because I didn't buy 8. This whole crap about I would like it if I tried it is bull. I tried both the preview versions. Hated metro but could still use it without many problems.
My beef is they knew people wanted these features and the straight out said go fuck yourself, deal with it. In the hopes that it would still sell like windows 7. Now that it didn't hit the mark are they rethinking about giving us the features we begged for. That is a shitty way to do business.

He is the same guy who designed Windows 7 from the ashes of Vista
why not? you can still do pretty much everything that the start menu does + some more
it doesnt feel right, ive used metro with a phone and the surface (in a store) and it felt wonderful

So what are we dealing with here, his evil clone or something? Or rehabilitate the fuck, because he's otherwise clearly got multiple personalities. One side genius, one side complete and utter moron who decides to be hanged by his own entrails.
Man... I don't know why, but when I imagine people being killed I always get hungry. I suppose if shit ever hits the fan I'll at least know what to make of the evidence. Thank god I have snickers icecream handy, and milk. Seriously, why doesn't everyone love milk? Milk is awesome
I would not mind metro in the slightest if it was an optional feature and not a replacement.
that's like saying aero shouldn't of been a replacement of windows classic (even though there was an option it was gradually phased out)
What's with all the Metro bashing? Guys who think its ugly, okay, I can respect your opinion and we all have different tastes, you can't argue with aesthetic opinions.
But people who say its not functional or worse than the start menu, I happily disagree. For one, I like how it's an overlay instead of jumping you to desktop, surely I'm not the only one who has accidentally pressed the windows key on my keyboard? I can jump back into my game with near enough no issue because the overlay just shuts off. Secondly, its not functional, well, yes it is. You can customise it so whatever you use is literally a click away when you press the windows key. No opening folders nonsense like the old start menu did, only the program appears here so you can open apps faster.
Granted, it'll feel weird at first, that's not because "Oh my god its meant for tablet not pc so it will always be bad", that's because you're not used to it, its a radical new reform to something you've probably used throughout your life, of course it will feel weird, but just after 2 weeks of using 8 I wouldn't go back to the start menu. Its extremely accessible to the tech illiterates because its big and easy to use, showing only the stuff they're going to use. Its faster than the start menu, I've lost count the amount of times the start menu has lagged while running a game, but metro has yet to stutter once, its much more clean and smooth than the old start menu.
One final thing - why are you bothered having a start screen? You can still open apps just as fast as you could on desktop and it even jumps you to the desktop when you open them. Personally that is just grasping for ideas to prove windows 8 is bad in my opinion.
mind how i have to physically break my concentration on whatever i'm doing to jump into a new, full screen app finding adventure, then jump back out to keep going. i could just do stuff like open calc or whatever without even moving my eyes off what i was reading
Cool. While this is rumor mill material, MJF is well-known in the Windows rumors scene, so I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft follows through. But the only question that would remain is "too little, too late".

That is a good point but people forget that metro is not the only app launching service availabe, you could always pin these apps to the taskbar.
That is a good point but people forget that metro is not the only app launching service availabe, you could always pin these apps to the taskbar.
But the Windows store is the only App Store available and there's still very few apps available.
It's probably too little too late.

I've personally never used the app-store (and beyond Pin-Steam I don't think many other facepunchers do either) and think that, while unsuited for my purposes, makes the system easier to use for the grandma who just wants to play solitaire. The app store is in no way needed for you to enjoy windows 8, I just use metro as a quicker and more personalised start menu.
How are the Linux distros not jumping all over this Windows 8 hate and advertising themselves as an alternative? OS monopolies suck
Why are people rating dumb if they have different opinions than you or if they think Metro looks hideous? [sp] Which it does. [/sp]
There's different ways of saying things - one is "I personally believe Metro looks bad, but it's cool if you don't", a different one could be the [sp] tags in your post.
And this just goes to show that you at the very least aren't any better yourself:
Also, why do you keep antagonizing, I'm just trying to speak an opinion and you keep being a fuckin' Win8 Nazi
Calling people nazis and then getting behind the "It's just my opinion dude why you attacking me bro!?" argument is not a good way to argue.

Ubuntu did once.
Which is hilarious considering Ubuntu's UX is even worse than 8's.

It's more about the OEM deals than anything, advertising to the public without having many computers shipping with your OS wouldn't make much sense.
Ubuntu is making more of a move into the desktop space now and more OEMs are picking it up.

It is hilariously bad in places, but at least it is consistent.
Time to start using windows 8.
Then again i'm really only going to use it to fiddle about on it since i get it for free through uni.

I guess if its something like that, I can see your point. Although you don't need to open the start menu to open calculator. Just Win + R, calc.

I wonder it Canonical has gotten to the point that they've done more harm than good for Linux, like going back in time to stop their existence would leave Linux better off.

Considering what is on the table now, no.
People turn there computers off?
You're not only dumb because you never turn your computer off, but because you have the grammatical ability of a second grader.
