• Windows 8.1 to bring start menu back

Not sure if the "shut down" button is a relevant topic anymore, but what is so wrong with it? I find it much easier, and even "fancier" to shut my computer down using Win8's way. [thumb]http://puu.sh/2DfLz.png[/thumb] Put cursor in corner of screen, drag down, chams menu. [thumb]http://puu.sh/2DfNC.png/ss%20(2013-04-20%20at%2012.22.51).png[/thumb] Press settings, shutdown.
Why is shut down in settings? It doesn't make any sense.

It's not all that logical, though start > shutdown doesn't make much sense either.
I'd be okay with Metro if it didn't unnecessarily take up the entire screen space.

I might actually get windows 8.1...

I can kind of understand "it breaks my concentration" but I have never had a single problem with the menu taking up the whole screen. It can even be invoked on your second screen if you have one.

If I want to run some small tool while working, I have to open this big ass fullscreen window that hides everything I was looking at just to open some tool that takes up barely 1/5th of my screen. I can open start menu while seeing my screen perfectly fine. What if Im watching a movie in window mode or some video. With small start menu I can open it and it doesn't intrude on whatever I'm doing right now. Metro opens fullscreen and distracts me from my other stuff. It's a bad design decision to force it fullscreen with no option for smaller window unless you get 3rd party bullshit. Not a problem for others, problem for me though. That's why I use launchy with minimal skin. It takes up a few pixels of space and doesn't intrude on whatever I'm doing. Metro just passes as "oh look at me, look" then it decides to fill your entire screen for more attention. A lite/compact metro would be a great addition. Another thing I wish is a feature for desktop users where metro apps don't hide your superbar. Otherwise anytime any metro window opens I feel like I'm in a different world outside windows.

And why is it a sin for the menu to be fullscreen and not for the application that it's opening to be fullscreen?

Also, as mentioned above, why would you even use the start menu while watching a movie? When do people use the start menu when they are trying to keep their attention on something?

But then I wonder, if your working on something else, why would it bother you that it obstructs the video for a split second, because your not paying that close attention to the movie anyway, since you're looking at a different application. Its not like it stops the audio.
