There's no such thing as 'European Law', in these matters, every country has its own legislation. This is not first time that someone got a sentence that's incredibly long and just a simbolic way of saying 'life imprisonment'. It has happened in many European countries and two or three times in the US too.
The guy got wrong what how the European Union works.

is it possible that they progressively take it apart and scrapped what they could to help pay for deconstruction? then again, I don't see any other option. That's a big fucking boat.
