Yes, it can treat them but malignant tumours are not 100% certain to go away.
Oh for the love of God. What do you want? Scanning for individual cancer cells?
1. you wanted a machine that cures cancer I gave you a machine that cures cancer fukka u 2. so why was it even in your argument against transhumanism
It doesn't cure cancer, it cures cancerous brain tumours. He says transhumanism cures scores of diseases and issues with humans. Cancer is one. I was asking for a transhumanist approach to curing cancer and how would it work. Gamma knife isn't it. [editline]23rd September 2011[/editline]
I remember reading somewhere that they actually talked with scientists about the augmentations in Deus Ex 3 during development so that they would be similar to ones we would actually have in 2027. It looks like those scientists were right.
And Zeddy wants to tell me deus ex has fuck all to do with this. Yeah okay. [editline]23rd September 2011[/editline]
Oh for the love of God. What do you want? Scanning for individual cancer cells?
I'm not the one advocating transhumanism and saying it cures absolutely fucking everything.
I'm not the one advocating transhumanism and saying it cures absolutely fucking everything.
Neither am I. A 'transhumanist approach' to curing cancer? Jesus, man. Maybe something like this? http://www.nanomedicine.com/NMI.htm
Zeddy is. Now, Nanomedicine is a good example of something. Nanotechnology in the medical field has become an element of itself really. Nanotechnology spans as many topics as medical science covers, it's too large of an entity to be put under the wing of transhumanism. I agree with nanotechnology, and if it 100% falls under transhumanism, then so be it.
Well, 'mainstream' nanotechnology is more chemistry than anything, it's unfair to put it under transhumanism. But the work of Eric Drexler, Ralph Merkle, Robert Freitas: All those folks are more or less openly transhumanist-y.
Exactly my point, it's not transhumanism, however easily applied to it. Being applied to transhumanism or a small part of it isn't really my point, which is why I find Zeddy talking about pacemakers and hearing aids to be completely unfair. I've heard the term "heroes of transhumanism" being applied to these three, many others like Hans Morave and Marvin Minsky, now I'm not denying what these men do are great, or what they've created is wrong. I'm not closed off the concept of a few transhumanist style approaches. (medical science strictly speaking), but the general concept of medical science is that of developing fields to keep humans alive and keep them healthy. I personally feel transhumanism does this, yes, but the cost is so much greater than the actual sucesses, which can be acheived through natural or minute means. My problem isn't with a tanshumanist concept here or there, but it comes down to the ship of theseus, how much is too much? I doubt transhumanism will catch on much, it is a small minority through out the world, and I can't find many people I know of who would be too much into it. Plus, I feel humanity is making good progress in all concepts covered by transhumanism, and you're better off improving things via our flesh and blood and the occasional metal part to fix a problem than turning the world into a transhumanist society. But that's just me.
What if we could talk to our guns?
What if we could talk to our guns?
i agree what if we COULD talk to our guns
What if we could talk to our guns?
You could have long conversations with your AK-47, coolhandluke
Okay, few things: 1 - I said Cancer, not brain tumours. Now, Cancerous brain tumours? Yes, it can treat them but malignant tumours are not 100% certain to go away. 2 - Everything above doesn't matter in the slightest because it's irrelevant to transhumanism.
It can cure cancerous tumors in the brain. This means it cures cancer.
"Fuck you man, fuck you. I can run crysis in ultra-high resolution without a spark of lag and you're using me for cheap low-res porn ? FUCK YOU." >BSOD
"Talk dirty to me" 0101010101010101001001010 "Aw yea..."
ok this has derailed fast, but look at things like full metal alchemist, in there automail is painful but powerful, there are people who willingly cutoff limbs to get the metal replacement. one day when we do have bionic arms that are stronger, tougher, and just as dextrus, and as fast or faster than real arms... you gotta expect some idiot will chop his arm off for one also proton based transistors could also be used in an organic computer people....perhaps even re-engineer trees to be nothing but big computer cores also neural implants
It can cure cancerous tumors in the brain. This means it cures cancer.
One out of oh lets see lots http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cancer_types Okay, well in fairness. 6 times of one. Still, in comparison. Again, it wasn't even my point.
100% positive that you arent going to enjoy masturbating with a bionic hand
What if there is a vibrate setting or fleshlight attachments?

[editline]23rd September 2011[/editline] What are you even saying?
That's like saying localized anesthesia to the leg not helping my arm's pain means it doesn't work
That's like saying localized anesthesia to the leg not helping my arm's pain means it doesn't work
No, no it's not. Cancer is a malignant neoplasm. Curing one has to do where it is, not the cancer itself. Gamma Knife has more to do with brain tumours, as opposed to a cancer. It can cure, or atleast help in curing a cancerous brain tumour.
Soviet Bread, what are you even talking about anymore?
Guys don't change the subject to some cancer bullshit.
It was response to a point that someone took out of context.

Just go tally up your dumb ratings and leave. Anyway, Cancer bullshit arguments aside, I hope to find some more news about this and what we can use with it. It sounds like a very large step in medical and technological science.

Then come back and see if I should really give a shit about dumb ratings.
Yeah god forbid I don't obsess over a video game and want to turn my head into a walking computer completely forgetting what my species is.
Oh no not my species, what will I ever do if I'm not part of that. Is this like the second coming of carbo.
Compare the demographics of this site, and tell me you're not surprised it's filled with people who obsess over transhumanism.
Compare the demographics of this site, and tell me you're not surprised it's filled with people who obsess over transhumanism. Then come back and see if I should really give a shit about dumb ratings.
quit derailing the thread

It's not like crazed Bronies or Preachers, they just have an interest in the subject. It is an incredibly interesting subject. And you can't talk about obsession when you've been obsessed all over this thread about Transhumanists.
Soviet bread why are you against making our bodies better?
Calling it now, first message from computers: "RESISTANCE IS FUTILE, YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED"
Then the lead researcher pulls the plug immediately and they all go out to get some coffee.
Calling it now, first message from computers: "RESISTANCE IS FUTILE, YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED"
EXTERMINATE! EXTEEEERMINATE!!!!
