Yes, because discrimination in the world is dead
well, SUPER
Affirmative action IS discrimination. It doesn't counter it, it increases it.
oh
silly me
you honestly think affirmative action is the best way to go about getting rid of discrimination in jobs and colleges?
A federally appointed judge appointed for life in New Orleans recently ruled that a school district had to hire black people for ALL administrative positions until a 2:3 ratio of black:white was met. A lady I know may not get a job because of this. She is applying for the head of the parish's school transit, and is very qualified: She has 20 years experience as a business owner, 10 years as a bus driver, she is a certified in bus driver instruction (for 7 years), she is experienced in route planning, she knows every bus driver, and she has a business degree. One of the other candidates has a masters in teaching (Nothing else of relevance). Just looking as these facts you would obviously choose the more qualified. But, the judge's ruling could negate that.
That's actually illegal what the judge did. In the Supreme Court case Regents of University of California vs Bakke, the Supreme Court ruled that while race may be a deciding factor in qualifications, minority quotas are in fact, unconstitutional.
oh

Trotsky, quit being such a douchebag.
He would probably put in an appearance to say that while racism is bad, it goes both ways you know and reverse racism happens all the time and can we please talk about that instead
That's exactly what affirmative action has become.
You know, if the word "White" wasn't in the title of this thread, it wouldn't be as controversial.
I just hate the term reverse racism. Wouldn't the reverse of racism be tolerance?
Reverse racism is basically the reverse of what you'd expect when you hear racism.
When I say racism, most people think it's when minorities or non-white people get punished due to their skin color/ethnicity.
Reverse racism is white people are punished because of their skin color.

For the most part

But it's a stupid term. Just because it is occurring to a white person, doesn't mean it's "reverse racism"
But it's a stupid term. Just because it is occurring to a white person, doesn't mean it's "reverse racism"
It's because white people want to feel different.
Why have regular racism.. when you can have REVERSE RACISM?!
Actually, it's probably just to emphasize the irony.

That's only college systems. This is different.
uh
Since you seem to think that minorities are poor and oppressed, why can't we have affirmative action for poor white people?
A large number of people in my town live in trailers, and they're mostly white. They deserve scholarships just as much as a black kid who lives in bad neighborhood.
uh
Because it discriminates against white people.
oh right I forgot that you can't discriminate against evil whitey
yep, she just loves to oppress white people. She rose to the highest judicial position in the entire country just to oppress white people. What? You think she may have her own, non-racist reasons for opposing the lawsuit, quite possibly relating to the complicated, labyrinthine nature of constitutional law? THAT'S LUDICROUS
Funny, because I've read the constitution. Most of the "interpretation" I hear out of the Supreme Court these days is just whatever they think it should say.
And you also took my post out of context. I can't believe three other living souls gave you an agree over something so blatantly idiotic on your part.
For the most part
All Affirmative Action does is give people jobs who didn't work for it nearly as hard as did all those white people, because denying them a job they didn't work for must be racism.

HAHAHAHA...
no, I don't think you have.

That's a disgusting genreralization. What you're implying is, only white people can work hard.
That's a disgusting genreralization. What you're implying is, only white people can work hard.
That's not what he said at all.
You're dealing with Jenkem... So you would be surprised.
but he is generalizing. It's like the healtcare debate (mind you this is his argument), that everyone without healtcare is lazy and doesn't work.
Political correctness = works both ways but makes everyone involved look retarded in the process.

this has nothing to do with political correctness you daft nonce
Oh boy, not this again.

However, what you are implying is, that only minorities can be discriminated against. I think affirmative action is right in certain occasions, but there are cases where it simply doesn't work or is counter-productive.
I support Obama, but I don't really like Sotomayor

I honestly know absolutely nothing about her except this "fiasco", so I can't really make much of an opinion.
