couldnt you just clap your hands, or make some other noise to keep yourself occupied while in there?
That's cheating.
You know when your room is "silent" and you're trying to sleep, if you focus your thoughts on the sound alone you start hearing random voices and stuff that are being transmitted from your subconscious, this is in a non perfectly silent environment, now imagine that same effect on a room where all you can hear is your body and your subconscious mind :v:

You're a schizo.

It's so quiet.....
NEGATIVE DECIBELS!
Yes you idiot, negative decibels means it's quieter than something
Are you allowed to sleep in there?
Cause I think I could stay 8 hours.
They made the perfect room for me.

“It is so quiet out here, it is the quietest place in the world.”
Imagine what it'd be like dropping some acid then sitting in there in complete darkness for an hour

So if you have ear problems from too loud music and stuff you go in that chamber for a month and your hearing problems are solved? :D

Nothing can cure stupidity.
I think I could take it. I mean I'd have nothing to do and all but I'm used to quiet.
Where I live it's so quiet I can hear a relatively quiet clock tick in the floor below me, if no one else is home. If it's in the middle of winter there's typically no animal life around, and I live in the middle of nowhere. The house itself is quite sound proof to isolate against the cold, and the snow does that same job. So it can get really quiet here. You can pretty much hear all the lamps in the house buzz, not like flourecents which are obvious, but a really quiet buzz. But most of the time the only thing I hear is me. Heart beats and all of that.
Same where I'm from. When I had packed my computer down for TG, I tried to sleep in my room. Complete silence, my own breathing kept me awake.
I couldn't bear a place like that for too long because I have tinnitus. The constant ringing would drive me nuts after a while. I suppose I'd be able to stay there longer if I kept my mind of my ears but after awhile... silence becomes deafening.
Not saying it doesn't. But holding your breath underwater for 9 minutes fucks you up too but that seems like a more legit record that's all I'm saying. Stick David Blaine in there and I bet he lasts more than 45 minutes.
Do you not understand the shit that complete sensory deprivation can do to a person? There's a reason that some people use it as a form of torture.

No because that sound your hearing is the hairs in your ear changing shape and generally becoming useless.

Probably the worst experience in your life.
Would be quite interesting to try for a little bit, though i'm not too keen on a sensory deprivation endurance test.
It would be novel to try but I know by the 10 minute mark I'd have went full bananas and started talking to voices that aren't really there.
I can't even imagine how it would be like to be in that room. Once in the middle of the winter I was mad so I just ran for ages in the middle of nowhere, finally fell down in the snow and I realized how silent it was..
No birds, no cars, no machines, no wind, just me and my heart beat. First it felt really weird, but after a while I calmed down and it was so great.
-snip-
I'd say it's more the darkness that does this to you than the silence. I wonder would it be uncomfortable to sit in there with the lights on.

Yeah, silence is fucking weird man, really fucks me up but to be fair I have a constant ringing in my ears, and when it's quiet and I notice the sound it just keeps getting louder and louder and louder.
So yeah this room would kill me and anyone with Tinnitus :v:
I'd say it's more the darkness that does this to you than the silence. I wonder would it be uncomfortable to sit in there with the lights on.
you would probably be able to hear the lights
Lol of course they are some people here who think just because it get really quiet in their house that they can go past 45 minutes.
I think I could bare that. I tend to hallucinate a fair bit to begin with, so it's not like it would be totally alien to me.
I would probably fall asleep so bring it
I think I could bare that. I tend to hallucinate a fair bit to begin with, so it's not like it would be totally alien to me.
You would probably go insane.
I would probably fall asleep so bring it
Yeah you probably would if you're narcoleptic, if not prepare to experience pants shitting terror.
My heart beats per minute is extremely high (like 80-90 when I'm doing nothing), so sitting in there would be like listening to a bongo concert.
Even the thought of this... and just the look of that room creeps me the fuck out.
I would probaby just fall asleep.
I would probaby just fall asleep.
No you wouldn't, you just wouldn't.
I would probaby just fall asleep.
Total silence is unimaginable.
For example, sitting in a locked car in a garage in a quiet suburban neighbourhood is about 30 decibels. It may be higher, I'm going off memory here.
Absolute silence is 1 073 741 824 times quieter than that.
That's called Tinnitus.
Which is why I'll never, ever set foot inside a room like this. I have severe Tinnitus and I think I'd probably go insane and start clawing my ears out of my head inside fifteen minutes. Hell, the only way I can fall asleep is to have music playing.
