Russia sending spacecraft to knock out Earth-Killing Asteroid

You should at least try not to cry about it (And generalize every Russian as the scum of earth).
What is in the past remains there, we can't build a time machine and change history, get over it.

I would say that but Russians haven't changed generally
Look at Georgia
Look at Georgia
They attacked South Ossetia. We helped South Ossetia, now WE are somehow the bad guys. :downs:
Yeah i live in Lithuania buddy
check that up
according to your myspace profile you are a 16 year old male from Lithuania
according to your myspace profile you are a 16 year old male from Lithuania
yes
and your point
They attacked South Ossetia. We helped South Ossetia, now WE are somehow the bad guys. :downs:
So some assholes tried to detach from south ossetia wich is a strategicly good place, so they wanted it back.

South Ossetia simply wanted to be part of Russia. Georgia got butthurt and attacked them.
How is this Russia's fault?

Since south ossetia legally belonged to Georgia
And Russia provoked South ossetia to break off from Georgia
Wich caused a war in wich Russians were portrayed as the good guys

Uhh, no not really.
The majority of the residents of South Ossetia are Russian citizens holding Russian passports. This is why S. Ossetia wants to be part of Russia. Also because of this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1991%E2%80%931992_South_Ossetia_War
Georgians had discriminated the Ossetians before the war in August '08.
You know that if that asteroid hits Earth,we all will be endangered?
Bunch of aftereffects will come after that:
-Ozone layer would be destroyed, and then UV rays will fry most of us
-There would be mass earthquakes
-There would be Tsunamis
-There would be wars (probably)
So shut up about Russian conspiracy, and hope it doesn't hit us.

You know what would happen?
Nuclear winter
Exclude the radiation
Depending on what it would hit.
Russia, you fools! Don't do it, you'll kill us all!
Russians are scum of the earth
Knowing them they will probably direct the asteroid closer to earth
let's just leave this guy, he's probably some eastern european who has had bad problems with russians
I think the "Nuke the motherfucker" should be as Last Resort, so if whatever was sent to alter the course of the asteroid, they would send the rocket with fucktons of High-Yield Warheads towards it.
:ussr:
Lenin would be proud.

Lenin would be like, "Holy shit. We're in space? GOD DAMN that's cool."

Nuclear weapons area perfectly plausible to resolve the issue.
You guys also understand that they don't just say "Hey let's send something up and hope it moves it away!" They calculate trajectories to figure out what the best course of action is.
Let's blow that fucker up. :frogc00l:
Not a good idea. Or do you want millions of micro-asteriods created by an uncontrolled (nuclear?) explosion smashing on 100 countries rather than one mega-asteroid passing by the earth with an odd of > 333,000 to 1?
So they've designed and constructed the biggest nuclear devices in the history of mankind, which would probably be great for asteroid-busters, and they don't even consider them as one possible avenue to take?
Surely you'd want MULTIPLE plans for such an event (a large asteroid on a collision course with us), given that the existence of our entire species may be at stake. I wouldn't completely rule out blowing it into a billion bits as one of those possible plans. No doubt most of the pieces left from the explosion would burn up in the atmosphere (hell, most might miss completely if we blow the fuck out of it when it's far enough away from Earth).
And send radioactive debris raining across the earth great idea.

Uhhh where did you get this info???
They're basing how to do it on movies?

Micro asteroids burn into dust on Earth's Atmosphere

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Just let it fucking hit the earth! It's not like anything on earth is going well anyway.
Just let it fucking hit the earth! It's not like anything on earth is going well anyway.
I'm doing pretty well... :saddowns:

He is a physicist. He just knows these things.

I'd opt for blowing up a significantly large asteroid if it was CERTAIN that it was on a collision course and we had no other options (like attaching a huge solar sail to it, or sticking huge, powerful thrusters on it).
I think we should still prepare AS MANY POSSIBLE ways to destroy (or otherwise get rid of the threat of) a large asteroid. You know... just in case. I don't see what harm will come from 'over'preparing for the worst case scenario (especially when the alternative in the worst case is extinction).

I take it Apophis won't protect us :(
Knowing Russia they'll probably just make shit worse. remember how they fucked up the space station?
Since when?! Oh well, America will just fix things like they always do...
Then again, seems other people are on board. With 29 years to plan it, I think that'd be hard to fuck up.
I don't know anything about physics and given 29 years I think I could figure out a trajectory plan :v:
