If someone asked, they would give some kind of "tough luck" retort like "that's like compensating a drug user for arresting him before he could smoke all of his weed".
Can they legally do that? Especially if the paying user was completely legit?
Guys, I wouldn't be so quick to get angry. Megaupload had a lot of legitimate content, yeah. And shutting it down was a bad move. But if the allegations - The charges, mind you - of money-laundering and racketeering are true, it may just be a good thing the owners of Megaupload are in trouble.
The money-laundering and racketeering are round-about charges. Both are on account of "making profits off of copyrighted material." Which is a gross distortion of how MegaUpload really works.
I'm inclined to agree with you there, but I can't say for sure yet. I'll be watching this case closely.
Well, according to the actual legal wording of the release, those are the actual reasons why.
How were they "money laundering" Unless my definition of money laundering is wrong, then I don't see how they were money laundering...
I just had an idea: lets boycott them
more liberal shit responses like this one and im going to puke what we SHOULD be doing is taking up arms and defending our constitution with lead and copper bullets to the sound of beating drums and the american national anthem
This just in, Garry says retarded things on twitter constantly just like everyone else.
more liberal shit responses like this one and im going to puke what we SHOULD be doing is taking up arms and defending our constitution with lead and copper bullets to the sound of beating drums and the american national anthem
Yes, every time the government does something you disagree with immediately jump for your gun and start marching! Don't petition them, don't vote, and DEFINITELY don't peacefully protest! Just jump to murdering. That's how the founding fathers would have wanted it right? They didn't try to stop the revolution from becoming violent at every turn! No... when the British government did something they disagreed with they immediately murdered the nearest government official! Barbarism ho!
For anyone just joining us, basically this is the Internet right now:
Also, could everyone who's advocating we riot watch this scene? Please? The riot was supposed to be over the unjust ability of wealthy people to buy their way out of the army draft. Pretty reasonable grievances right? Watch. They end up attacking mostly innocent people just because they look rich, or take the opportunity to lynch black people. Riots are never a good form of resistance: they just end up being about hurting innocent people and looting, not ideals.
Oh noez, they ddos'd a bunch of websites for a few hours.
I guess they got a new website, but look, looks like they set it up under a new IP address. http://109.236.83.66/
Can't believe FBI.gov is down...
operation failed
Amazing how much more efficient Anonymous is than the government.
i'd say the government is more efficient seeing as they brought down a massive site nearly everyone uses not just a handful of websites that dont have a real effect for a few hours
fbi.gov is down megaupload is back up.
Fuck the government, seriously I am so fed up with this bullshit.
This just in, Garry says retarded things on twitter constantly just like everyone else.
are you aware that the only thing Garry posts on his Twitter these days are troll statements? [editline]19th January 2012[/editline] seriously, he looks for big events, and says the EXACT OPPOSITE of what most people on Facepunch think just to watch us get angry at him
Aw, I had the last remnants of the second FP:TCG hosted on Megaupload, cards/.psds/webpage rips/everything. Hopefully I have a backup somewhere... :sigh: Never knew Megaupload was kiwi-based before this.
I had no idea at all that Kim was in Auckland, or the other high ranked operators with him.
And facepunch laughed at them...
And facepunch laughed at them...
this i find it funny that one of the people that rated this dumb, agreed with the one below...
I don't know why everybody bags on Anonymous when they retaliate over something validated like this. They're doing more to voice their opinion than any of us are.
I don't know why everybody bags on Anonymous when they retaliate over something validated like this. They're doing more to voice their opinion than any of us are.
i don't know why people rag on them so much. they are a group of people trying to do what they think is best for the world- some of them aren't so tech-savvy, so they use botnets and the like, but even those send a message. whenever there is a massive anon attack, EVERYONE hears about it. people here say that they do nothing, but they certainly do ONE thing every time they perform an attack- get people talking. Also, after a ddos attack some servers can be severely crippled, or the operators and/or software distracted while a bug finds its way in.
Holy shit they brought down everything
i don't know why people rag on them so much.
Making videos as overly dramatic as possible and the whole 'we are legion hurf' aren't exactly helping.
I'll miss you MegaUpload. You were good son, real good. Maybe even the best... Granted I'm happy to see the MPAA down. Bunch of cunts, I say.
Holy shit they brought down everything
A lot of the places being claimed down are now up again for me.
I love you filesmelt, never die please
1) companies with games which are replicated in gmod creations target garrysmod.org 2) garrysmod.org is permanently taken offline by copyright holders 3) major chaos ensues
You missed the bit in between 1 and 2 where they give me a DMCA and I take down the content. That's what was missing on MegaUpload.
You missed the bit in between 1 and 2 where they give me a DMCA and I take down the content. That's what was missing on MegaUpload.
And what's to stop that from ending up being 75% of the content?
