Wind farms in Pacific Northwest paid to not produce
Could they not have just shut down the "traditional" power plants? Or were there none of those?
There's a coal burning power plant somewhere in southern or eastern Oregon. Not sure what their operating schedule is but I assume it's during the winter when power is in demand.
I know there are plans of turning my county in Oregon into a publicly owned utilities district (in terms of electricity) and buying out Pacific Power's assets, but our county is so broke that it's a joke they're even trying to talk about it. They also want to upgrade the jail and our schools are losing money, and they can't pass a tax hike to save any of that.
Our utilities districts here (at least in my county) are pretty derelict. Doesn't surprise me though that hydro power is producing enough energy to power us.
What the fuck?! I live a couple hours away from portland and near these areas. If there is over supply why the fuck is my lower bill so god dam high?!! Instead of shutting down lower the cost so i dont have to pay $150+ a month.
