Up to 760 dead in England's heat wave - with figures likely to double

I am not a doctor please don't take my advice
Soooo these people are dying because they aren't used to the heat and then die of dehydration/etc? Am I missing anything?
That seems like a really sad way to go.
Ignorant is a not very nice way to put it though.
Saying that, I hate the heat 22 is about nice any hotter and I can barely lift my head.
Never felt like im about to die though!
It was higher in 2003:
well in 2003 it was the hottest it had ever been in recorded history in England

I've been feeling really sick today, it peaked at 30.5C where I live. I think these deaths are mostly heatstroke in older people/ children, like previous posters have said.

Ignorant is not an offensive term, you're just being very sensitive!
ig·no·rant
/ˈignərənt/
Adjective
Lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular: "ignorant of astronomy".

It literally could not be more appropriate for these circumstances. Are you so eager to be offended that you're going to pick through every post for potentially rude subtext?
Does this mean I'm superman? As a Floridian, it's always 75-100+ F here (not to mention 100% humidity, which makes it even worse.) And no one here is dying.
btw 27C = ~81F
was this post offensive or something

Nope

No, it means you're used to the heat and you have the infrastructure to deal with it.
Surprised I don't hear deaths about heat in Florida.

I would probably kill myself before the weather got me if I had that every day.

Good thing you told me, I was about to try and fly off this building.
It's not just because of the heat, it's because people don't take proper care of themselves because we're not used to the heat. Like you should drink a proper amount of water when it's hot, and for whatever reason some people (especially elders) won't. My local Hospital has had tons of people come in because they just aren't drinking enough as they get used to the heat.
FUCKING THIS.
My step grandma almost died today. Me and my dad rushed over there, she doesn't even have a fan on and she hadn't drank any water all day. It's really aggravating, this isn't the first time it's happened. I don't understand how you can forget to drink water, I bet 80% of these deaths could have been prevented too, but people are too ignorant because they don't deal with heat often.

No it means that everyone in Florida is somewhat surprisingly, used to the average temperatures of Florida.
Surprised I don't hear deaths about heat in Florida.
because floridians understand that its hot so don't drink hot tea and wear a sweater and a long coat and a even longer coat over that
I actually have trouble trouble dealing with heat, as I live in Vermont. Lately it's been above 90F here, with bad humidity, and if I'm outside I start getting REALLY sweaty, and my vision starts to go black on the edges. Even if I'm drinking water, it's like I can't take it. When I went out to Arizona, it was almost 100F, but the humidity was 0. This felt way more bearable.
Also I'm just a heat-wuss
This heatwave seems to be across a large part of the northern hemisphere. Even here in Michigan where we are used to brutal summers, things like summer camps and other events were cancelled earlier this week. The Heat Index yesterday and the day before was 43.5C. I think the weekend is supposed to be cooler, at least around here.
Bro I just wokeup and had to buy two A/C units to basically save my grandma's life. It's hot in Michigan
"Four-week-old baby among 10 children treated by specialist burns unit"
ouch
Holy shit
I couldn't think this damn weather could actually be this fatal
Now I have an excuse to stay in side

Unless you're old/weak it's relatively harmless, just stay hydrated and you should be fine to go outside.
It's irritating and uncomfortable as fuck but for young and healthy people who keep hydrated it's probably not THAT dangerous.
jesus fucking christ I wish these idiots would stop with the whole ~lol my country is so much hotter and ur all dying you weaklings~
So does it feel like the temperature it says it is, or more? Is it all humid and shit? It was around 85°F here in MD the other day but felt like it was fucking 95°F.

Most of us aren't saying that at all. Most of us are trying to help you guys out with some tips, and you're interpreting it as dick waving. Just admit you are ignorant when it comes to heat, I got in a 2 page long argument with a brit over whether or not a fan keeps you cool (hint: it does, because perspiration) and the guy actually argued that a fan is pointless because "blowing hot air does fuck all to keep you cool" [sp]Let's just wallow in our own sweat and complain on the internet when people try to help:downs:[/sp].
Like I said earlier, a lot of these deaths could've been prevented if the proper clothes were worn, enough water was drank etc.
It's not a big deal because the deaths are attributed to the heat when it's really just the extremely frail people that would die of anything.
Don't get me wrong I acknowledge all the facts about adaptation to temperature, but honestly I find it hard to believe those temperatures could kill a person, even of poor health.
I really just can't wrap my mind around someone dying from that temperature without it being on purpose.
It's not a big deal because the deaths are attributed to the heat when it's really just the extremely frail people that would die of anything.
So, 760 people dead due to the heat isn't a big deal
intriguing
It takes a special kind of idiot to not understand that people get used to certain weathers when they live with them for years.
Well, while that's true and I do suffer from living here in Argentina after living in Paraguay for 4 years during my childhood (7-11 years old. From Hot and Dry place to Temperate and Humid place. Grants you mild asthma :( ) I can't still believe people die from that temperature.
I don't live in a hot place nor a cold place, I live in a fucked up place. We also get heatwaves here in Argentina during summer. Temperature during Autumn-Spring ranges from -5ºC to 25ºC. In summer, it can suddenly hit 39ºC-40ºC with no humidity. But, I've never heard of people dying here due to 40ºC degrees.
and the guy actually argued that a fan is pointless because "blowing hot air does fuck all to keep you cool"
Jesus Christ, really? You just can try it out for yourself by sleeping/taking a nap with and without a fan. I bet that if you sleep without a fan, you are bound to wake up transpiring and feeling heavy. Fan DOES helps you.
The only things that can help you get through this are:
-A Fan
-Light clothes (FFS, dont wear a jean or a long sleeves shirt)
-Staying outside under the shade/shadow. Well, this point depends on where you live.
-Drinking a lot of water.
I don't add the AC/Split because I feel it wastes to much energy.
No offense to any englanders, I know you guy's bodies are not used to 80* weather but seriously use a god damn fan and drink water.
Before you guys bitch at me you are NOT in desert, you have supplies and water.
May seem cooler, but thats actually a bad thing, since people wont take care of hydration like they should.
Hell, I can have fans, leave my windows open, and it would still stay several degrees above if i were to stand in direct fucking sunlight.
