US Marines do it again - This time they pose with SS flag
Hugo Boss and Mercedez-Benz don't reflect the ideology of the SS/Nazis like the runes do.
Except the SS runes have a somewhat specific identification to the Schutzstaffel in today's society. It can send the wrong message to people and hinder the Marine's efforts to win over hearts and minds of people. The symbols may look nice, but it's what they represented that is unacceptable to the Marine image. It's a form of respect to those who suffered from the SS back under the Nazi regime.
All that needs to be done, really, is change the runes to look less like the SS- say, look more like lightning bolts or something.
Actually, Waffen-SS had vast recruitment across the axis countries and beyond. And in general were respectful towards the different cultures, so in my mind it shouldn't affect on the whole "winning the hearts and minds of people". Unless the Americans see middle-eastern people as untermensch.
3) Waffen-SS (Combat SS): elite military wing that was composed of volunteers who had been deemed "Aryans" and had passed all administered training programs and necessary examinations; regulations were relaxed in 1940 and they began accepting non-Germans; they weren't directly involved in the Holocaust, but they did commit quite a few war crimes against civilians on the Eastern Front and Allied servicemen in Italy, France, and Belgium
Said warcrimes in europe were done mostly by the units that were transferred from the eastern front. Given how absolutely total and unforgiving the war was there and how relatively used to it they were, it's not a big surprise.
As a military unit of a civilized country you don't want to be identified with the SS. Sure you could use the letters 'SS', but the shown design is a bit too close:

So just change the font and save everyone the trouble.
Uh....
Those simple are different.
Notice how the Swastika is turned at a 45 degree angle, and the Wehrmacht SS simple has those points.
THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING.(It does)

also children in the US used the nazi salute and stopped when the nazis started doing it, don't remember the details, don't take my word for it

oh shit the hindus and jews are nazis
conspiracy~
Anyways I don't really see that much of a problem. It does look pretty much exactly like the SS symbol yes, but if they're just so daft as to not see it I don't think the Marines are deserving of any kind of punishment. Just say "don't do it again".

pretty much everybody used that salute
fucking commie nazis are at it again
fun fact: the nazis killed commies and drove em out of germany
I don't really see the problem with this.
If they're just using it to identify themselves as scout snipers, and not nazi SS, What's the problem?
Obviously you've never seen the schutzstaffel symbol. It doesn't just kinda look like it, that IS the schutzstaffel symbol.
This is an organization where calling friends racial slurs and referring to themselves as baby killers is everyday conversation.
I don't think they give a shit what you all think about their insensitive use of a flag that may or may not be intended to resemble a now defunct military unit from 70 years ago.

So it should be acceptable?

That kind of attitude is what makes people hate the people of the military even more

children used to point to the flag during the pledge of allegiance
The Soviets did this and worse right back to them as well.
Indeed, the mind-numbing brutality of the Eastern front corrupted soldiers of both sides. "Why bother respecting the human rights of the other side if they won't?" was the attitude of the time.
technically isn't the SS flag, the SS flag's background was black, makes a huge difference when talking about flags and insignia
but I can see the controversy
Looks more like lightning to me.
Goddamnit, world, pull that stick out of your ass and stop getting offended over symbols!
The Nazis didn't invent it, nor the swastika, so stop slapping taboo labels on everything!
Looks more like lightning to me.
That's because it was supposed to resemble lightning
It looks like there's a possibility of this genuinely being a mistake.
I'm going to put of more weight on it not being one, but I'm not entirely dismissing the idea either.

They kinda did use the SS symbol first.

You can't tell me that the ENTIRE group saw it and no one even thought "that KINDA looks, just a bit, like the SS symbol"
Scout Snipers have been using SS bolts for years, I think it's kinda funny that this came to a head so late. Shit there's tons of guys with SS bolts tattooed on their body and hundreds more who have pictures of them with them and no ones cried bitch until now. People don't understand military mentality, so either become one or stay out of our culture.

"Culture"? It's a military, not a fucking country.
If the military does something like use nazi symbolism for their little groups, then we have every fucking right to criticise it. US citizens have an untold amount of their taxes pulled into the military, you bet your ass they're going to be just a bit pissy when shit like this happens. Stop pretending the military is this infallible thing that ONLY military personnel have ANY right to criticise.

Any group of people can have a culture.
And what he means is that unless you've been in the military it's hard to understand them.

"people just don't understand our rich and vibrant culture of people who kill for a living, why can't they just back off and let us use nazi symbolism in our flags?"

I can understand they use nazi symbolism, I don't need to kill people while waving a flag to know that's a bit fucked up.
So it should be acceptable?
It's a flag.
I'd prefer they be culturally insensitive with some dumb flag and offend maybe a few hundred people who are going to forget about it next time they turn on WoW, rather than have them be responsible for a war crime.
At the end of the day it's a fucking flag. Who gives a shit? Big deal it's not PC and it's offensive. Comedians still make jokes about the fucking gas chambers for fucks sake.
I mean if this is the new big "scandal" it's a piss poor one (especially considering scout snipers have been using these flags for literally years....) that feels like someone is just trying desperately to generate any kind of controversy they can.
SS for super soldiers. The marines were not aware of it's real meaning.

True, that's not the sig rune, it's just similar, and the back of the flag is also in Navy Blue, not black.
So i don't know what the hell they're bitching about, they clearly tried to distinguish it from the real SS flag.

These aren't comediennes, they're soldiers.

colour has nothing to do with the SS symbol, on some uniforms it was dark green in the background.

Who cares?
Why does it matter? Can you tell me why it matters? It's the past, and the past has been done.
