US Marines do it again - This time they pose with SS flag

They should think before they take a photo with a former Nazi symbol. Even if they meant it to mean something else, I'm not going to tattoo a swastika on my forehead because of my Buddhist beliefs. It's not accepted in modern times so don't do it.
Some historians argue that Stalin killed up to 70 million people.
70 millions kills + 20 million that died in WW2 + natural deaths = entire USSR population dead???????????
when is it ever appropriate to glorify the nazis?
Glorifying it is different than treating it like it isn't an evil taboo that should never be mentioned
70 millions kills + 20 million that died in WW2 + natural deaths = entire USSR population dead???????????
That's why they are still in debate to this day.

While I personally do not believe it was that many, they were not only russians.
Or you could reclaim the symbols to mean something good?
A single army unit probably isn't going to be able to trump the other SS
Watching non service members debate about the military is like watching spectators at a football game. they think they know all of the right plays to call and the dynamics but until they're on the field they're just 'know it alls' who have no real knowledge or experience.
yeah you really have to kill a few brown people in a war that clearly isn't necessary before you can truly understand the acquired taste of nazi symbolism
[editline]11th February 2012[/editline]
seriously shut up with your self righteous bullshit
"you just dont understand, if you aren't in the military you have NO RIGHT to criticize it! bro i fight for your right to be quiet and not talk about the military unless its positive!"

I don't own fish, but I know not to fill their tank with anti-freeze.
But it is just a word
maybe if people stopped acting like it was the end of the world when someone says something offensive then people would see that it's just a word
It's not just a fucking word. It implies racial inferiority and dates back to slavery. You can say "well I don't mean to be racist" but that doesn't mean it's not racist. Just like the Swastika and the SS insignia, you may not mean them to be racist, disrespectful, distasteful, and disgusting, but thats how it will be taken because that what its associated with.

Seriously, shut up about the shooting brown people thing.
The American military isn't that stupid. A
B. You look like a massive generalizing ass, which from your post history, you tend to do. A lot.
C.Instead of bitching about a long dead symbol of something bad, why not re-purpose it to mean something good, just like the African American community did with the n-word.
I like how you're implying that the US military doesn't shoot brown people, swilly. It's funny.

I like how you're implying that the US Military is some genocidal angels of death thrust upon the middle east to kill everyone.
Maybe it's my family history. Coming from a line of European Jews, many of whom were slaughtered by the nazis, excuse me for being just the bit offended,
Yeah, I guess I have to feel bad for you.
Even though my ancestors were forced to march hundreds of miles out of their homeland in a crackdown on their very existence, and that their people were treated horribly for hundreds of years before and after the Trail of Tears. Remember what the cowboys did? People we glorify? Yeah, they shot them simply for being here first.
i'm getting a swastika tattoo on my forehead in protest to this outrage
I like how you're implying that the US Military is some genocidal angels of death thrust upon the middle east to kill everyone.
Here's a challenge, where did I say that?

And I'm against glorification of them.

Imply =/= Directly Say

"I still remember the inquisition, I demand all crosses to be burned!"
No, seriously, why won't they just call themselves ASS, for American Scout Snipers? Would be so awesome to see em waving that around.
To my fellow trolls, nobody wants to read four pages of swastika discussion.
It's just a symbol, like these 7 letters are their individual symbols as well, used by almost everyone all across the globe.
FUCK YOU
No offense, I'm a BUDhist.

All I'm saying is its funny to see people who've never been a part of the military play arm chair generals behind their computer. Don't put words in my mouth either, and for the record I don't kill 'brown people' I work in a Hospital, I'm the guy who stands between the life and death of a poor marine or sailor who's desperately trying to hold onto life.

uh, who's playing arm chair general again?
and we're talking about the military itself, not the individual in the military. it doesn't matter where you work, the military institution itself is the imperialistic killer of people around the world.
They obviously knew about it, which just makes it more hilarious.
Or you could reclaim the symbols to mean something good?
Which just isn't possible for now. There are still people who lived during WW2 and the entire previous generation has grown up in the aftermath of this war, there is just way too much grief and grudge against what these symbols represent to try and make them mean something good.
And even if we could it certainly wouldn't be by letting a Snipers squad use it that it will solve anything, as, you know, scout snipers are kinda supposed to kill people and do war stuff.
just like the African American community did with the n-word.
lmao
you do realise that a lot of african-americans despise that word, and for good reason? you're generalizing an entire ethnic group
C.Instead of bitching about a long dead symbol of something bad, why not re-purpose it to mean something good, just like the African American community did with the n-word.
Because, if the UN, salvation army, or the red cross were to change their insignia to a Swastika or the SS symbol, then they probably would not be very welcome organizations. And since when is "Nigger" an OK word to use? Calling a black Person "Nigger" in 2012 has the same meaning as it did in 1853.

Long dead symbol ? Dude neo-nazis still exist and there is still way too much people believing in the truthfulness of the Nazi's cause for the symbol to be "long dead"
I would like to point out that this is utter nonsense that originated from McCarthyism and its respective era in the US.
Any figure that goes above 20 million deaths is bogus due to the fact that the USSR could not have maintained and even nearly doubled their industrial workforce with conscription in effect, if the regime actually killed 20 million people. I dont even know how any person with a bit of sense could believe 20 million people were murdered and literally no one knew. let alone fucking 70 million.
The real number of deaths inflicted directly by Stalin varies between 5 and 8 million in total.
Thats why I said "some historians argue", besides i'm guessing a good number of them were poles or people from other occupied territories. 70 million is an unrealistic number, I simply used it to prove a point.
I like how you're implying that the US military doesn't shoot brown people, swilly. It's funny.
You know how inherently racist that makes you look?

Yeah well, its about time we take it from them, don't you think? The less they have to use to scare people, the less power they have.

From a white person yes. :v:
Look, I used somethign I shouldn't have but my point still stands. Symbols are powerful tools, if you re-work what used to mean an evil group of assholes who loved shooting civilians for the fuck of it into a different symbol then its possible. FOr Christ's sake, Hitler turned the swastika, a symbol that means good will into something very evil. Can we please change it back now, take all that fear and power he still has over it for some reason and take it away finally. You're just leaving the wound open by leaving the symbols there to rot in hell with him.

I guarantee you if you were to try and make a charitable organization, and use the Swastika as your flag or insignia, nobody would trust you. You can't just "bring it back". You also shouldn't, we need to be able to look back in History and see what that symbol stood for.
