I hate how sensitive people are about language.
There was a huge fuss over that Catcher in the Rye book because it had the f word in it 4 times.
People tried to boycott Slaughter House 5 because it had the word "mother fucker" in it.
Just deal with it people.
Jesus, Lets hope they don't read any Mcnab or Ryan Books
1 Swear every page
who gives a shit, the most important people and the most important countries speak english
Hugo Chavez seldom speaks English and he happens to be leading a country to spoon feeds America with a shit-ton of oil.
Fucking censorship
There is no N word. There never was an N word. Remain calm. Return to your lives.
Your a retard, they discovered that cigarettes caused cancer way before any other country
what are you talking about, they discovered that in 1885
This is sad
The comments in this thread confuse me, so are they censoring "negro" or "nigger"? Negro is hardly racist, but neither should be taken out. I highly doubt there was such a thing as a politically correct slave owner/catcher/driver.
p.s. Don't ban me TH89 I'm quoting a literary classic
-snip- major bad reading
Why are they "updating" all this old literature?
Is George Lucas running the show?

It's the actual n word.
The movie is going to be bad. This guy is trying to modenize it, when really the reason it could be great will be the old feel to it.
It's not a movie. Also I don't think the reason Huckleberry Finn was a classic novel was because it had the n word in it.
By trying not to offend people, they're just offending people like me. :eng99:

The reason why it was a classic novel was because it was one of the most important pieces of American social commentary of all time. The fact that they want to censor it is proof that they didn't get the fucking point of the book.
Shit i thought it was a movie.
bad reading rating
What are they going to replace nigger with? African American? Yeah that'll totally fit in with the setting.
i don't get why everyone is acting like this is a big deal
when books are in the public domain, shit like this happens, move along and stop giving it media publicity
or at least get riled up by censorship in songs/movies to remove language when on the radio/tv
What are they going to replace nigger with? African American? Yeah that'll totally fit in with the setting.
"Tell this nigger to get off my property!"
or
"Tell this African American to get off my property!"

The quote in the OP says slave.
Well hey there 1984, hows it goin?
I wish nineteen eighty-four had the F word in it so we would see a news story about "New version of Orwell's 1984 censored of F word"
I wish nineteen eighty-four had the F word in it so we would see a news story about "New version of Orwell's 1984 censored of F word"
i wish people would stop referencing 1984
Reminds me of "Blazing Saddles".
I hear about 50 "YO NIGGA WAT UP"s every day, so I don't see what the big deal is. I can't stand it when white people get offended by it. They just come off as sheltered and naive.
This just in: All copies of To Kill a Mockingbird have been recalled in favor of redistributing a more "friendly" abridged version; any and all racial slurs have been replaced with fun! innocent words like cotton candy!
Cotton? Referring to blacks?! CENSOR
What's great is Samuel Clemens wrote that books as a satire, showing how nonsensical racism was. Yeah, he used the n word, but it's an integral part of the story.
For the record, Google Books will always have the original, public domain, untouched copy here:

Heck, you could download it right now, stop whining over what one person will publish it with.
