I know many people don't think of this, but there is a very logical reason as to why Don't Ask, Don't Tell was enacted. The military has a bunch of "bro" type of guys and rednecks. The military also has gay guys. What happens if a bunch of homophobic "bros" and rednecks find out that their roommate is gay? They get all weirded out by it and are afraid of the gay guy hitting on them or etc.... This fucks up the concentration needed to serve in the military and fucks up the whole peaceful relationship between soldiers. This could also lead to the gay guys being beaten up or generally abused as well. A shitton of people think that this is just some random homophobic action against gays, but if you look at it that way it makes sense. Source: My gay uncle's boyfriend who is a medic in the Army.
