• Oh the irony: Pit bull advocate mauled and killed by... her pit bull

Granted I've never 'properly' been attacked by a dog (I've been chased by a German Shepherd and a few small dogs have snapped at me in my time) but I can't understand how some people get KILLED by them (unless there's lots of them, or they're taken by surprise). Whenever I get into a high pressure situation that's getting worrying and seems that it might escalate into a really serious fight (whether it be with a human or an animal) it's like I go straight into self-preservation mode and the one thing I focus on is the neck. It's really not that hard to strangle someone/something or crush its windpipe (I'm sure it'd feel terrible having to do it, you'd feel like a complete monster, but when it's your life on the line you gotta do what you gotta do). If your dog attacks you and it's obviously trying to kill you... just crush its throat with your hands.

Pitbulls have to bite/kill something living in their life .. atleast once.
I have a pitbull and she's the nicest dog you'll see. I've never seen her act violent, but then again my family treats her well. I hate it when I see people needlessly hate on pitbulls when its most of time not their fault.
It's a case of thinking it's never gonna happen to you, until it does.
It's a case of thinking it's never gonna happen to you, until it does.
We've had her for five years, and she was two when we got her. If you honestly think my dog is going to attack us, you're sadly mistaken. She even gets along fine with our cat and our other dog, a male Siberian Husky. Sometimes it's the individual dog, and not the breed as a whole.
http://www.cdc.gov/homeandrecreationalsafety/images/dogbreeds-a.pdf Pit bulls kill, mmmmkay.
There's a few husky attacks in those tables... Husky-types, around here, are probably the most peaceful dogs you can have... to the point I've never heard one of those barking... They're like big-ass cats, in that matter :v:
http://www.cdc.gov/homeandrecreationalsafety/images/dogbreeds-a.pdf Pit bulls kill, mmmmkay.
that isnt inherent in the breed. what is inherent in their breed is incredibly strong jaws, and a very muscular build, which makes them prime targets for abuse and dog fighting. by the way they have higher temperament scores than golden retrievers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Pit_Bull_Terrier#Temperament [editline]17th August 2011[/editline]
The APBT is a breed that is loyal to friends and family, and is generally friendly towards strangers. Many have strong instincts to chase and seize cats and other fleeing creatures, including deer and livestock (prey drive).[7] As with any dog breed, proper training and socialization at an early age is a must. According to the UKC, "aggressive behavior toward humans is uncharacteristic of the breed and highly undesirable."[8] The American Temperament Testing Society shows a pass percentage of 86% for American Pit Bull Terriers as opposed to the Golden Retriever with a temperament of 84.9%.[9] American Pit Bull Terriers generally have a lot of energy and benefit from exercise and stimulation to channel their energy properly and avoid becoming frustrated, bored, or destructive.
This is my own personal belief obviously, but I feel that most aggressive dogs are only aggressive as a result of poor training from the owner. There are very passive and peaceful dogs found in all breeds. I'd be willing to wager a large portion of dog attacks is most likely due to the trainer and not the so called inherent "aggressiveness" found in certain breeds.

Likewise, some aren't. I've never heard of a St. Benard attacked anyone, for example (but then again they all seem like big, dopey bastards that drool all over themselves anyway, so that probably explains why (they're awesome dogs, by the way!). I'm sure there have been a few that have attacked people, but probably not many at all otherwise the media would have a field day. Conversely, you hear about Pit Bulls attacking people all of a time, and it gets to a point where it's just too frequent for it to be mathematically possible thts it's mere coincidence.
I seriously don't understand how an adult can be killed by a dog. Just kick it in the fucking face.
Don't get a pitbull as a pet, simple as that. Get a super cool chihuahua.
If you want a good little dog, get a pug or weiner dog or something. I have a pomeranian but she's pretty chill and doesn't act like most hyperactive pomeranians.
When I was younger and used to live in my old house I would see this pit bull and its owner every day while walking to school Damn dog growled at me every time, and I was like 7 so I was scared out of my mind Eventually I would just cross the street to avoid it altogether
Bulldogs are cool
I seriously don't understand how an adult can be killed by a dog. Maybe we should remember that the rest of the world isn't as crazy as we are.
I seriously don't understand how an adult can be killed by a dog. Just kick it in the fucking face.
That might work if it doesn't shrug it off and tear a gaping hole in your leg
While Pit bulls are predisposed to violence, there's no possibility that the dog attacked for no reason. There's always an underlying reason to what dogs do, whether it be instinct, provocation, or any number of things. But seeing as no one was home when the incident occurred, there's not a whole lot that can be deduced from the new story or witness accounts. It really can only be chalked up to a freak accident. And on the subject of Chihuahuas, they're not all annoying, fervent, yappy dogs. Mine is perfectly well behaved and makes a fun driving partner. Most chihuahuas are just annoying as fuck because people don't realize that they need the EXACT same training and discipline that larger dogs do. [editline]17th August 2011[/editline] Also you guys, taking down a Pitbull isn't exactly easy. Dogs are quick on their feet and if you're not in good physical condition (i.e. a pregnant woman), it's relatively difficult to get a handle on them without them mauling you, if that's their intention. I know I would not be able to defend myself against a full grown large dog. And it's kind of silly to expect everyone to be able to.
That might work if it doesn't shrug it off and tear a gaping hole in your leg
If anything that'd probably make it easier to fight it off. The human body fights best when it needs to fight for survival. Getting an injury like that causes your body to get flooded with adrenalin which give you increased reflexes via lower reaction times (remember that lower is good in terms of reaction times), increased pain threshold, etc.

For the record, I'm not advocating animal abuse.
My half-sister's dad owned a pit bull and it was the coolest dog ever really friendly and it didn't seem to know it's own strength so we'd be constantly getting knocked over by it jumping on us
A friend of mine has 2. They are the sweetest, most well mannered dogs ive ever seen. when the older one barks at you, its because she wants to be petted.
My half-sister's dad owned a pit bull and it was the coolest dog ever really friendly and it didn't seem to know it's own strength so we'd be constantly getting knocked over by it jumping on us
that seems to be the biggest problem with pit bulls. they are just too energetic and happy for their body size.
chihuahua's are more vicious and aggressive than pit bulls. in fact pit bulls are one of the most well behaved dogs around.
Mah chihuahua is calm. Very calm. She isn't normal. But whatever, chihuahuas are small, and small dogs-- its just not natural
but are waiting for exam results, which they hope to have back in a few weeks
Uh no, those are coming back tomorrow.
The thing is for me, why would anyone get a pit bull? They have been bred with fighting in mind. They have been bred to be determined attackers which don't let go. They have a massive head for their body and a jaw which delivers a terrible bite force. If you want a pet, why would you pick a pit bull? In the UK, it's usually chavs and the like who get "staffys" (staffordshire bull terrier - p. much a pitbull). It's just another way for them to try and look hard, by having a dog with an aggressive reputation. I'm not saying all staffordshire bull terrier owners are like this, but most I see are. I'm sure they can be lovely well mannered dogs, but even still I can't help but ask, Why did they pick that dog?
I seriously don't understand how an adult can be killed by a dog. Just kick it in the fucking face.
You've obviously never been attacked by a dog. They are stronger and faster than you can possibly imagine from just looking at them. Kicking a dog is almost impossible unless you are super fast or they are running straight at you, they are so fast. A pitbull can deliver an incredible bite force and will not let go, making it nearly impossible to remove. If it gets your arm you're looking at multiple breaks and insane tissue damage, possibly nerve damage. If it's able to shake around enough you're probably looking at permanent damage. If it gets you in the neck and you don't get medical attention very fast, you die.
Allegedly, having a dog is the environmental equivalent of owning and driving a four 4x4 vehicles. (I'm also shit scared of dogs, and allergic to their hair as well)

They are like the retarded friendly side of the molosser family, and so fun to be around!
I seriously don't understand how an adult can be killed by a dog. Just kick it in the fucking face.
Haha, yeah, good luck with that.
Greg Napora told police that the pit bull had been secured in the backyard before he left for work that morning.
Who let the dog out?
