• Man jumps onto shark for a ride.
The sight of a shark is usually enough to get people jumping out of the water — but this man was determined to jump in. The home video from the US shows Erik Jacobs deliberately launching himself from a boat onto the huge animal and swimming with it for about 15 metres "I felt real comfortable with it, and I was like 'I need to feel this fish, I need to swim with him I need to be part of this'," he said. Erik is not quite as brave or crazy as he looks though, as the creature was a basking shark, which only feeds on small fish and other tiny organisms.
Source: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/viralvacuum/glance/180555/man-jumps-onto-shark-for-a-ride.glance Thread music: [editline]29th July 2011[/editline] It would be 100x more awesome if it was a deadly shark. (Like a great white)
The title made it sound more badass then it was, he just jumps on the poor thing.
Just because its a basking shark doesn't mean it can't seriously injure or kill you. It's always a good idea to be calm and keep your distance from a 30+ foot animal. If you startle it or grab onto it there's a chance that you could scare it and you may get struck by its tail which could knock you out. If you're going to swim with gentle giants, be calm, be slow, and respect their space.

There was a reef touring boat captain over here that jumped into a school of tigersharks hanging around a whale carcass to ride around on them, his rationale for it being safe being 'they've already been fed'
There was a reef touring boat captain over here that jumped into a school of tigersharks hanging around a whale carcass to ride around on them, his rationale for it being safe being 'they've already been fed'
That is possibly the most retarded attempt at logic I've ever seen. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love tigersharks. It's just, why would you dive near a carcass/kill sight? You'd think that the spot would attract...larger creatures.
'I need to feel this fish, I need to swim with him I need to be part of this'
Settle down mate.
I was expecting more from this thread, but by the looks of it the discussion's already jumped the shark. [editline]29th July 2011[/editline] Also the video player on that site is awful
I know they're calling it not dangerous, but... Fucking hell.
You look surprised.
You can see me through the Internet? Well, basically I just imagined how it would be to accidentally get swallowed by that thing.
You can see me through the Internet? Well, basically I just imagined how it would be to accidentally get swallowed by that thing.
It would probably choke to death on you as its only capable of eating things that probably don't get bigger than your fist. Considering the general linear path from mouth to stomach, you may be able to pull yourself out if you didn't drown. Depending on how far you got swallowed... The sharks would be busy with the carcass but with all that blood in the water... that's just asking for an accident. Was he wearing a shark suit?
You can see me through the Internet? Well, basically I just imagined how it would be to accidentally get swallowed by that thing.
No he was saying the shark looked surprised, not you.
"I felt real comfortable with it, and I was like 'I need to feel this fish, I need to swim with him I need to be part of this'," he said.
what
Even though it's not a more dangerous shark like the Great White or Bullshark, I wouldn't even think of jumping in the water with that thing. Heck, I wouldn't even want to be in a boat in the same body of water with it. I got scared when I snorkled with coral reef fishes too, ended up drinking a lot of sea water.
this is my fish IT WAS MADE FOR ME
"When I die, I want to be reincarnated as a shark!" Gets reincarnated as the lamest shark ever.

Maybe as close as a few yards. Especially if you went diving on a reef. Given sharks ability to sense electrical impulses from living things, that shark that you never saw knew exactly where you were. Everyone that has ever gone swimming on a beach has gone swimming with a shark, they just didn't know it. So called "dangerous" sharks inhabit nearly every mile of beach on earth. Great Whites natural habitat goes as far north as Alaska and the east coast of Canada. One of the first recorded(July 2nd, 1916 see: Jersey man-eater) shark incidents in US history happened 13 miles inland down a river in New Jersey. The fact of the matter is, there is no reason to be afraid of sharks because you've already swam with hundreds of them. If you're afraid of sharks, don't go swimming. Sharks have no reason to eat people and we were never on the menu. If we were, the millions of people that go play on their front door in the summer would be dead.
I can't decide whether, without prior knowledge of either, whether it would be scarier to run into a basking shark or a great white in the water... I know they're not really dangerous but god damn that thing looks intimidating.
Wow.
Fuck your Black Eyed Peas bullshit.
Fuck your Black Eyed Peas bullshit.
I was looking for that.
Their brains were pulsating at the same frequency. That's why he needed to feel it. Guys it was obviously his future reincarnation.
I don't have a clue how you could think jumping on a shark would be in any form would be a good idea.
he really rode jaws.
