How do people like this become diplomats
So, diplomatic immunity extends to killing people, now? This is why you are hated, America. This right here. Blame this asshole and whoever authorized his ass to be covered by the state instead of hanging him out to dry.
ever seen lethal weapon II? this guy should defiantly see some punishment and provide some assistance though [editline]3rd August 2013[/editline] though I think they got him the hell out because they know the corrupt as fuck police would probably gut him though
How do people like this become diplomats
He wasn't- if you had read the article it tells you what his job was... People here are overreacting a bit IMO. It was a car accident, they happen all the time. There's no indication in the article that the driver was impaired. Yes it sucks that ppl were hurt/killed. But again, car accidents happen.
this guy needs' to lose his job and go to FUCKING Jail
Not just any jail Fucking jail.
I thought the kenyan was speeding and he ran so fast he hit the car.
I was riding in the family car in Nairobi when my mom, a US embassy worker, hit an old Kikuyu man who ran out in front of us. We have no idea if he lived or died because the number one rule is you do not stop. Just a week before, one of the embassy workers was shot because he hit someone's car, and got out to see if the guy was alright. It's really awful to hear about these stories and the guy was definitely in the wrong for speeding in an SUV in the first place, but if you've never lived in this sort of place you may not understand the way these things play out. People can and have been killed because they stopped their car to try to help. The best thing to do is to go to the embassy and report it, and the embassy will contact the local police accordingly.
So after watching a news cast about how several local Senators have evaded up to $16,000 in parking tickets, and then coming here to find this... BOY I sure love my leaders! :v: (And Representatives) Only in America Edit: Only as an American Politician committing a crime in a foriegn third-world country. Better?

Why do people like this receive government jobs? How did they even pass high school?
You really ought to try reading the whole thread before posting.
Hey hombre, I did. You really ought to think a second before posting rhetorical responses. my statement "It only happens in America" is a reference to the fact that An AMERICAN Embassy evacuated a UNITED STATES Diplomat from the country after he veered out of the lines on the road IN NAIROBI, KENYA and struck a bus, killing a man. How he (the victim) was "blah blah" the only source of income for the family and *input sob story here*, etc etc. I mean jesus, it's in the title. You don't even have to read it. But I did [sp]Just for you.[/sp].

Good job on those reading skills.
The article says he was speeding.
I wish it said exactly how much he was speeding. Speeding could mean one mile per hour over the limit, which isn't dangerous at all. I wouldn't doubt if they emphasized the speeding bit just for sensationalism.
I wish it said exactly how much he was speeding. Speeding could mean one mile per hour over the limit, which isn't dangerous at all. I wouldn't doubt if they emphasized the speeding bit just for sensationalism.
Speeding is "going faster than needed". The actual speed is relative to wherever he was. Going 30 down a highway is nothing, but down a crowded street is dangerous.

I wouldn't doubt if they emphasized the speeding bit just for sensationalism.
Last time I was in Nairobi there were no posted limits and stoplights were seen as optional. Going over twenty would be speeding because it's extremely congested with people, animals, and vehicles, and concepts like 'right of way' don't exist.

No offense man, but I'm honestly not going to read EVERY single comment to the thread here (especially in the longer, 15+ paged ones). It's not in the rules that I do, and quite frankly; Most opinions here come from Pre-20 somethings who barely have a grasp on the world around them, outside of their Parents and say... Sensationalist Headlines. (In my defense from earlier, I interpreted your "read the whole thread" as "read the whole article". I blame the booze and 2am timeframe.) So did you mean.... this comment?
I found this on reddit for this same news story:
lright people, You realize why they did this right? Street justice in 3rd world countries gets a little crazy. I live in Malawi and am told if I hit somebody with my car, DO. NOT. STOP. Go to the nearest police station (no US embassy in my city). This is not because you are a cold hearted jerk. This is because people will pull you out of your car and beat you to death. Or if you are a women like myself, do worse things then kill you. People run in front of cars or get pushed or whatever it just happens more often in these countries because of the amount of foot traffic and I'm sure alcoholism. They hurried the whole family out because people love a good pitch fork against foreigners in these kinds of countries. Whether someone is innocent or guilty doesn't really matter. Someone else hurt one of ours and we want revenge. A building collapsed in downtown Blantyre that was owned by a middle eastern muslim. That day multiple people with lighter skin of different ethnicities got beat up... because the things that unites people in these countries are football... and a fistfull of street justice. His families lives are at risk. I am sure these families will be contacted to have the funerals paid for, first thing first, they needed to make sure no other lives were lost that day.

Because I definitely saw it, but how the hell does it directly relate to my opinion outside of being an outside extension of the article..? I understand the country and the conditions that exist there. I was trying to point out (For the 3rd time) the fact that only an American diplomat can you kill someone (intentionally or unintentionally) and be rushed out of the country as if you were something of legitimate importance. The story made (inter)national news and it seems like most people are just 'shrugging their shoulders' like its so common now. It's disgusting in my opinion. I don't blame him for getting the fuck out if people regularly beat foreigners for such events, but the fact that all the US Embassy did about it was "Oh snap, let's get you out of here." There really was no apology or statement made about it outside of (according to Ruarai) the concept that the families will likely be contacted to have the funerals paid for. "Oh my bad, let me buy the coffin." just doesn't seem like a good return. Maybe i'm just too old-fashioned. I guess we live in the day now where no one is responsible for their actions.
Maybe i'm just too old-fashioned. I guess we live in the day now where no one is responsible for their actions.
Theres being responsible and there's being so fucking stupid and having a complete lack of situational awareness that you get yourself killed by doing the "right thing" Guess which one this falls under [editline]4th August 2013[/editline] he can still be tried, he'll just be tried under an american court, not tried by people caving his head in with a pipe
This headline had me laughing so hard, Stupid this happened, but the headline is just funny.
I'm spending WAYY too much time in this particular thread. I think i also need to be more thorough.
Key words: "He can still be tried, he'll just be tried under an American court." Where the family of the victims or witnesses will not be present at the hearing, where the only circumstantial evidence is a few documents and news stories circulated. Al Jazeera didn't even post the Diplomat's name, nor did any other related article I could find on Google (and you can claim protection on this one, that's fair game). So the only people who know who he is, are likely a few internals at the Embassy and his Lawyer back at home. They rushed him out of the country, so he could not be tried in Kenya (and i'm not talking Street trial like Ruarai's quote.) The article even goes to state that one of the State spokespersons would not comment on whether the Diplomat would be back to Kenya or not; And the Widow had "told the Associated Press news agency that neither the US driver nor anyone at the US embassy has contacted her." So, being tried under an American court in a hush-hush case is... well shit, it's comparable to serving County Jail Time vs Federal Time. There is a HUGE difference. Here in the US he'll likely get a small suspension and be slapped on the wrist. I doubt he'll serve jail time or lose any substantial position of status within Politics. It just doesn't happen that easily here in the US. (and that's a bit of a double-bladed joke there..) Also, I retract my previous point about them not having made a statement;
Hilary Renner, a State Department spokeswoman, said the embassy extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and wishes a speedy recovery to those injuries. She said the embassy is fully cooperating with Kenyan authorities investigating the accident. via Here
Don't worry something will happen to him in time, Everyone's life is pre-written.
quick everyone hate america
quick everyone hate america
Too late already busy hating America.

If you weren't so busy trying to back pedal and make up for being outed on your previous comments, you'd have notice this is far from a unique case, and many people supposedly "hiding" under diplomatic immunity HAVE been tried in their own countries and HAVE been jailed over it. You really don't have a fucking clue how this is going to be handled yet, so stop acting like you do. Yeah he might get off with a fine or something silly, but he might also end up doing prison time for manslaughter. Either way its better than getting his head caved in with a rock over an accident.
do people really not understand how dangerous it would be if he had stopped for any of the "police" that would've found him there? sure it's shitty the dude died and the guy shouldn't have been speeding, but if i was in his position I'd do the same thing cause there was a high chance he was gonna be fucking murdered when caught

I've always wanted to be a woman and accidentally get raped by a group of ravenous men.
