This makes me lol... and makes them wish they never would have been dumbasses and gotten stuck in prison to begin with.
implying that the american justice system is perfect and that criminals aren't people
What the fuck people, it's prison. They did something bad to get there, they deserve to be treated bad so they never go back. But for suicidal ones, they should put them in some lavish ass cell so they have something to live for.
I wonder how long it will be before someone mindlessly bashes the sou- owait

The land of the free, where people in serious need of psychological help gets thrown in cages, where they get humiliated, forced to piss/shit in what i can only guess are old food containers? :smug:
Who cares. It's hilarious. Just like that warden in Arizona (?) who makes his prisoners wear pink, work outside in the hot sun for the state, and live in tents/sleep on cots. More prisons should be like this.
Home of the brave, land of the free. Freedom blah. Right, more prisons should be like that. Whoever still thinks America is the land of justice for all needs a reality check.
~anybody around here in louisiana this month hit me up~
Lunchbox, can I just say that your beliefs personally terrify me and I shudder to think that there are more people like you in positions of authority cheers
That's just wrong.
So really it comes down to being a matter of opinion. Evidently, the state judicial system doesn't have a problem with it, otherwise they would have shut it down already. The Supreme Court apparently doesn't either. Before people get to thinking these cages are incredibly small, they're not terrier-dog small. Nothing so small a Mastiff or Great Dane would feel "cramped" in them. Don't see how this is any worse than putting them in "the hole" or solitary.
Please source your claim. According to the article it is minimum legal standard for dogs which is really goddamn small.
Again, a matter of opinion. Nobody but the ACLU has thrown a fit about this. Not the state judiciary members, not the Supreme Court. Again, if you're in prison, you've done something stupid to get in there. Really, I could care less if they do this to them. A lot of others apparently agree with me, too.
http://pedigolaw.com/assets/files/PDFs/Bathroom%20Rights.pdf “Although this Circuit has never expressly addressed whether an individual has a Fourteenth Amendment right to urinate or defecate in reasonable privacy, there can be little denying that such a right exists. Indeed, there are few activities that appear to be more at the heart of the liberty guaranteed by the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment than the right to eliminate harmful wastes from one's body away from the observation of others . . . this Court finds that an individual's ability to urinate or defecate in reasonable privacy is clearly established as a right which affords Fourteenth Amendment protection . . . because of the nature of confinement that pretrial detainees and prisoners experience, the government has a duty to protect an inmate's basic human needs . . . it would be unfathomable to suggest that courts should be unwilling to include the ability to urinate or defecate as a part of these basic needs. Therefore, if Plaintiff West provides sufficient summary judgment evidence to prove that Defendants acted with subjective deliberate indifference to deny West's access to a restroom as punishment or as an attempt to otherwise deny him his basic human needs, this Court will find that West has met his burden of proving that his constitutional rights were violated.” Bam, blatant unconstitutionality. Read the article further for more example cases. Furthermore I would like to say that in my opinion you sir have no standards for legal rights that do not specifically address you and that your attitude towards the Constitution is exactly why the US is ridiculed by the first world. Secondly, your arguments are baseless and have been addressed thousands on times on this forums, strict punishment is not a viable preventative measure and anybody with any legal knowledge realizes this. Thirdly, the punishments these prisoners are subject to are not based off sensory deprivation because according to the article the prisoners were asking the guards for permission to use the bathroom, meaning they still had human contact. These punishments are based of emotional and mental distress which are illegal. Fourth, this is not in the Supreme Courts jurisdiction further proving your blatant lack of knowledge in this subject area. Fifth, you are obviously a very sheltered and apathetic human being if you can't understand the conditions that lead a person to commit a crime and commit a crime after experiencing the crooked justice system you are promoting. Lastly, nothing you can say can ever be taken seriously from this point on, really nothing you've ever said can be taken seriously because you tried forming a rights/prison argument without any real sources for your claim. You sir fit the classic description of a psychopath as far as I can tell and a dunce and a fool for the reasons above. I would laugh at your mindset if I wasn't to busy pitying you for your it and raging ever post you've posted. Only one thing can describe everything you've just said. :saddowns:
I don't understand how this has yet to be viewed as a violation of the Eighth Amendment. Unlike Lunchbox said this is a clear such violation. They are being deprived of some of their most basic human rights. Being refused the right to use the bathroom because you are suicidal? That is just fucked up. Someone in this thread stated it perfectly, this is what you get when you have correctional officers dealing with mentally ill patients. It's just horrific. The cruelness is the small cage, the unusual is the freaking hotpants. Please try and tell me I'm wrong and this is all a matter of opinion. Cause you can't. This is the exact sort of shit the Eighth Amendment protected against when they instated it. Louisinia, get your goddamn head out of yer ass, and the 18th century, and realise it's time to grow the fuck up. And I mean the entire fucking state if your Supreme Court has yet to bring this before themselves. Edit* to LunchboxofDoom, the idea that you have of these prisoners being placed in these conditions to prevent their suicide so that they may serve out their sentence is malignant, stifling and just plain barbaric.
Billiam just laid the smackdown
Put the guards in those cages and force them to wear the shorts. See how they like it.
i think that serious offenders need to be put into a cage that's too short to sit up and too small to lie down
this makes the freedom loving eagle in me cry :911:
Isn't he dead after all that time ?
Why is the ignorance virus spreading so quickly on this site [editline]06:30AM[/editline] Punishment-based justice systems DO NOT WORK
Neither does the current jail system. That's just wrong. On so many levels. May you never get into any position of more power than a garbage truck driver.

Prisoners don't need this kind of reform.
That would just scare them into doing the right thing, not teach them.
Well there you go, no more violent crimes because people would be scared to commit them.

Only in America does that Stereotype exist outside Psycological health istitutions or prisons. "Criminals are teh scum" yeah, say that again when you know his life story and the circumstances that made him politely rob the store for cash! Not to mention the difference between Murderer and petty thief... and to consider deliberate harm versus accident or indirect harm. All that Jazz. I label guys like him Texans... because i do not know better due to media. and that is where the media often places that kind of sicko anyway. Texas also sounds insane in general... and Alabama. how many A's do you need? Biggots will be biggots. but People like that belong in prison. let them taste their own justice and THEN offer them proper imprisonment. Partially why i think it's a shit place to be if you screw up a bit. they don't even look at the circumstances. some one died in your vicinity... you go away for 4 lifetimes.. Some insane biggot like that troll goes on some spree and some Bitch from alabama thinks she knows shit about muslims becaus Obamas middle name is Hussein, get to walk free. waste of resources right there. Eye for an eye justice system is and will always be fail. and the general way Americans just think all their prisoners are evil shitstain murderers is why these cages weren't ended before they were. Hypocritic society much. i don't aprove one bit. my 2 cents. Proof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBwIRq_hmjg&feature=fvw i don't believe this guy was ever punished for any of what he did. he's now a better man than ANY person that has been punished in American prison to date. Rehabilitation will always beat out that Judaistic Eye for an Eye bullshit. I love my countrys Rehabitating legal system. 16 years for the most grizzly murder and he may come out a better man. (if not, the sentence is just extended.) they are able to become better people mostly because the lack of focus on and hate towards convicts and that there's no real Inmate culture at all.
