Once we achieve safe stasis-technology for humans, I am going to sleep for the next thousand or so years. All my life I've been dying to know how humanity will be in the future, and what technological advancements we've made by then. It's the source of my huge passion for science fiction. To actually experience it would be the greatest thing that could happen to me.
Well if it's horribly expensive like I'm sure it is, then odds are nobody that anyone on this forum knows will ever get to experience it at all. And if it's not then technology will experience a slowdown because everyone smart will want to see the future and quit inventing shit.
Sleeper ships, here we come!

I'm sorta smart but I don't want to see the future. I like this time period, it's my favorite.

I loved that movie. Thanks for reminding me of the title, was wanting to show it to my new girlfriend.
Wanting to be suspended for thousands of years is stupid.
With the way the world is, things like this will be run by corporations. What do you think will happen when a corporation goes bankrupt and you just so happen to be in suspended animation under them? You'd either be woken up or just dumped out to die, as I doubt returning to the land of the living will be as easy as thawing someone out.
I can see this having a lot of use when it comes down to space exploration, but it's really quite useless for people that intend to stay on the planet for the rest of their lives.
Send me into suspended animation until Valve releases Episode 3.
I might actually do this if the technology is here by the time I'm around 80 or so. This way I can wake up in the future when the technology and medicine are far superior and maybe I won't have to die or my body can be rejuvenated so I can live longer :buddy:

You're going to be asleep for a while...
Welcome to the world of tomorrow! :science:
If they figure out how to do this for humans while I'm alive, I'm definately freezing myself for 100 years.
I wonder if people are gonna weaponize this.
Imagine if you dreamed whilst in suspended animation. What would a person's mind be like after a 1000 year long dream?
Destroyed, or in a state of fantastic exhaustion, the body wouldn't have the energy to keep it up so you'd end up being a vegetable.

...hypothermia already exists and it was around for a few million years before we could do this.
Seriously how the fuck does one weaponise the cold?

Now if they found a way to actively feed your body during cryo-sleep, I would definately sign up for 1000 year dreams.

Why is everyone in this thread using old science to justify why new science isn't going to work?
Not really. We would have to freeze people at absolute zero. Anything less is going to casue catastrphoic cell damage.
what
there's a reason it's called "absolute zero", you can't go below it because it's the coldest you can get! plus you can't even get something down to absolute zero without making it thermodynamically detached from the universe
