This is why Im glad Im Buddhist.
Are you actually buddhist or just pseudo-buddhist.
^ Oh, glorious Black Humor.
Don't you mean dark humor? I don't see how that relates to blacks at all.
I want to know what dumb shit thought it was a good idea to dunk babies in water in the first place. [editline]03:34PM[/editline]
so if a person wants to go swimming, and he drowns.. it's the want to swim's fault?
People aren't forced to go swimming when they're infants.
I want to know what dumb shit thought it was a good idea to dunk babies in water in the first place.
It was jesus.
Actually it wasn't He didn't say shit about the baby needing to be submerged in water, just that they had to be exposed to the water in some form, usually a few drops or a handful over the babies head. I know, cause I went to two catholic schools and got baptised.
Priest's reaction: "Oops."
Don't you mean dark humor? [editline]03:34PM[/editline] People aren't forced to go swimming when they're infants.
uh, they are actually. Infants don't have a real say in much
because religion strides to drown babies, right?
In superstition, stupidity and unwarranted fear and guilt, yes, as well as literal drowning now apparently. [editline]08:14PM[/editline]
so if a person wants to go swimming, and he drowns.. it's the want to swim's fault?
Considering we're land dwelling animals with no natural swimming apendages, yes it is. The same applies to our desire to skydive or rock climb.
I'm not fond with Christianity and never witnessed and Christian ritual/costume myself, but I'm quite positive that in baptism water are just lightly thrown at the baby? Or it's different with Orthodox Christianity?
Considering I was once baptist, yes it's just water sprinkled/thrown.
believe it or not, black is dark [editline]11:38PM[/editline] uh, they are actually. Infants don't have a real say in much
That was the joke...
Again, no good ever comes out of religion?
I'm not saying that, but I haven't personally seen any good myself.
I'm living in a home because of it. Poor people and problematic people are helped by religious orginisations.
I'm living in a home because of it. Poor people and problematic people are helped by religious orginisations.
Elaborate.
I'm not saying that, but I haven't personally seen any good myself.
probably because you only look at the negative side because it reinforces your opinion about religion
probably because you only look at the negative side because it reinforces your opinion about religion
Perhaps, but you still haven't explained how religion isn't responsible, at least in this one case.
Perhaps, but you still haven't explained how religion isn't responsible, at least in this one case.
you obviously haven't read the thread then are you telling me that this baby died due to religion and not because of a negligent person? the other hundreds of millions of people who have been baptized drowned also, right?
Elaborate.
charities.
Well Baptism is supposed to make sure you get to Heaven, so I guess it worked a little too well this time.
you obviously haven't read the thread then are you telling me that this baby died due to religion and not because of a negligent person? the other hundreds of millions of people who have been baptized drowned also, right?
The negligent person wouldn't have been trusted with that baby without his religious stature. Also, I'm not saying that this sort of thing doesn't happen with non-religious people, but in this case religion was directly responsible for the ritual and the baby being entrusted to a clearly incompetent, religious authority figure. [editline]02:37AM[/editline]
charities.
Thanks for specifying.

[editline]02:37AM[/editline] Thanks for specifying.
Clearly incompetent? What, was this a habitual thing? I highly doubt it was "clear" that the priest was accidentally going to drown the baby. If it was, he wouldn't have been given the baby, regardless of his stature. You can't seriously blame Christianity for the baby's death. It was an obvious accident.

And from what I'm reading, all that was required was a splash or sprinkle of water to effectively baptize the baby, or if felt absolutely necessary, a quick dunk (we all know how religions are morphed as best suited to the individual and not universal). Seriously, how do you fuck that up? That being said, I have and will continue to blame religious delusion for allowing this sort of ritual to occur in the first place. It's an accident waiting to happen and people just don't have the sense to realize that it's pointless.

We all have different opinions, and so what if someone has a different view then you? Leave them be. Amber, you're probably an anti-social greasy nerd that doesn't leave his house without mommy there. Would you honestly debate this in real life with people that you know and call them delusional because they have faith in a god? No you wouldn't, because, unless you're the most inept person in the universe, you'd realize that insulting religious people and customs is a one way ticket to getting yourself hated by many people. Sure, if someone is shoving his religion in your face, you can tell him to shut up. But, not everyone is like that, so let them practice their god damned religion and learn some respect. I'm sure you would hate someone trying to convert you to Catholicism, but, take a fucking look at yourself. You're just as bad. So just do me a favor, and shut the fuck up. Also, you're an idiot for thinking one negligent person is a reason to think that the whole religion is at fault. I could say the same fucking thing about anything. "34 year old man dies whilst working on Macy's Thanksgiving Parade float." "God, parades are fucking retarded. If idiotic people didn't get entertained by parades, this wouldn't have happen in the first place."

We have natural swimming instincts, that kinda indicates we are supposed to swim at some points if we want to.
Mammalian dive reflex is present in humans, we are able to swim. I know, some bastard did it to me when I was younger, and my mom being like... 50% newage, it was in a giant fucking seashell outside in 3 degrees celcius water. Motherfuckers! :black101:
:crossarms: ...in a giant seashell in near freezing water. I'd slap a bitch for that. And actually kids tend to survive drowning longer for some reason thanks to the mammalian dive reflex, effectively puts the kid in stasis.
"I didn't drown the baby, it was satan I tell you!"
you obviously haven't read the thread then are you telling me that this baby died due to religion and not because of a negligent person? the other hundreds of millions of people who have been baptized drowned also, right?
Alright if you want to take the fucking backdoor in your argument. Had religion not been invented, the baby wouldn't have 'needed' to be baptized, thus it wouldn't have died.
Or you know, if the priest didn't submerge the kid he would have been alive. I've been baptised it's like they flick some super water at you and shit happens and suddenly you belong to god. There's no submersion involved because your average person knows "baby underwater is bad" This priest was just phenomenally fucking retarded.
let's not mention religeon on FP again, its a waste of braincells: you aren't converting anyone to atheism/your religion, and intellectual argument is out of the question. try saying i'm wrong, just Ctl F and you'll find about 6 shit storms that are exactly the same, 10 pages of "religeon is dum" "fuk u, not it isnt"
