Should I get the umbrella?
Better idea is to get the fuck outta dodge but If you wanna be here then an umbrella would a good idea. A basement or a nuclear fallout shelter would be great though.
this isn't the fault of religion it's one man's incompetence. A priest who knew what he was doing and didn't have his head so far up his ass that he would actually admit something was wrong would never had made this mistake
Exactly this.
Better idea is to get the fuck outta dodge but If you wanna be here then an umbrella would a good idea. I think 3 years is lenient even if it was an "accident." It doesn't take a genius to figure out if someone is drowning he should have stopped.
Another life ruined by that twisted religion.
Because babies around the world daily die during baths, we should disallow bathing babies. It ruins lives, really! :downs: [editline]09:30PM[/editline]
I think 3 years is lenient even if it was an "accident." It might have just unluckily breathed a bit of water. Knowing that you killed a baby just because of your incompetence is a mental scar for whole life. I don't think he doesn't deserve a harsh punishment.
Well as soon as the baby started turning blue you'd just think any human would realise something was wrong. They also said throughout that part of the ceremony he was distressed. I agree that sometimes it doesn't take much to drown (very unlucky) but still he should have known he was dealing with a baby and he should have been more aware and delicate. Also he denied being at fault for the baby's death it just seems like he doesn't care from how the article has worded it. :smith:

Honestly it's just common sense. Don't dunk, a mother fucking baby, under fucking water. Then that pretty much eliminates the possibility of the kid drowning.
I think 3 years is lenient even if it was an "accident." It doesn't take a genius to figure out if someone is drowning he should have stopped.
What exactly does keeping him longer acomplish?
It doesn't seem consistent to what people usually get for manslaughter is all.
Do i hear an american not acknowledging different countries with different laws here?
What the fuck.
It doesn't seem consistent to what people usually get for manslaughter is all.
It's an 'accident'. I call it 'carelessness'.
Do i hear an american not acknowledging different countries with different laws here?
I think its because the only laws that actually matter are American laws.
Baptism is symbolic, and since it's harmless (except in this lone case), there's absolutely no need to call it pointless. Who cares. If it means something to them, so be it. Like gardening means something to some people, relaxation, refreshment, whatever, I find it to be just tedious work. It's all subjective and it's the same damn thing with religion. For you it's stupid, for those who believe in it it's cleansing of soul. I don't even know why I'm explaining this, this should be perfectly clear to you already.
QFE. There are too many militant antitheists on this forum. And no, I'm not generalising everybody in this thread.
He's not a very good priest.
He's not a very good priest.
Yeah, he should have molested the kid instead. What was he thinking.
Why does it have to be the Americans who do not know other people's laws? Maybe he is a Mexican or German.
Yeah, he should have molested the kid instead. What was he thinking.
Atleast then the kid would still be alive.
Why does it have to be the Americans who do not know other people's laws? Maybe he is a Mexican or German.
Cause most of Facepunch is from a third world country like Europe.
If I would have drowned when I was getting baptized it would be a good grounding for me.
It doesn't seem consistent to what people usually get for manslaughter is all.
Different levels of manslaughter get different sentences.
Don't worry guys it was just a devil baby, it couldn't handle the light. -priest
That's awful and anyone who rated this funny has no heart.
It's not like he was trying to kill the baby or anything.
Its pretty fucked up he wouldn't let the parents interrupt him
It's not like he was trying to kill the baby or anything.
Which is why it wasn't life. When you remove the fact that it is relatively common, you realize that DUNKING A BABY IN WATER is probably not a good plan. Our bodies have systems in place to prevent drowning in such cases, but babies aren't always fully functional yet. Systems are still developing and booting up. And again, the baby apparently was obviously in distress and he didn't stop the ceremony. That takes it from accidental to negligence.
You'd think there'd be some technique to keep the baby from having to submerge his mouth and nose in the water
It doesn't seem consistent to what people usually get for manslaughter is all.
That's a horrible argument.
It wasn't an argument it was simply my opinion. I am not intending to debate with anyone nor do I want to debate with anyone.
This is a single, isolated case. It was the fault of a single man, he would have done it some how another way even if religion wasn't involved. I was baptized and I'm perfectly fine.
Maybe they should wait until you're at least 3 years old or something

Also, the priest probably doesn't think HE killed a baby, he most likely thinks that "This baby was killed by gods will!" or some other nonsense crap like that. He shouldn't be put in prison, he should be put in an insane aslymun. Not because of his religion, but because of the fact that he drowned a baby, didn't even try to save it, and then probably thinks he had nothing to do with it.
