That's quite possibility the worst assessment ever Iran is nothing like Iraq
In the same way the Vatican is nothing like the moon?
@contag, I meant that we would invade them and occupy their country, which cost many more lives as Iran is more advanced than Iraq, and that it would benefit no one. I wasn't comparing social differences or whatever you were thinking.
In the same way the Vatican is nothing like the moon?
Iran is nothing like Iraq. One is a developed country, the other is a smoking oil-less crater thanks to the US.
Edit: Have there ever been any attempts to make trade transit "bottlenecks" around the world international territory before? It would eliminate the possibilities of countries manipulating with global trade (short of limiting resource export).
The Suez Canal comes to mind, theres agreements in place that any boat of any nature can pass through it in either war or peace. In my opinion important areas like this should have similar treaties in place. Them actually being followed is another matter entirely of course.

Shh, don't ruin people's view that Iraq is some third world country full of bomb craters.
This is a bluff. Know why? Blockading that strait would economically cripple Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, the UAE and probably a few others. Those countries already have religious animosity towards Iran (they're mainly Sunni, Iran is mainly Shia - think Catholic vs. Protestants in Europe, and you're on the right track). Giving them a legitimate excuse to declare war is suicide - blockading a strategic strait is an established casus belli, even the UN would authorize a war in this case. Saudi Arabia alone could probably win a war against Iran, or at least fight it to a draw. With the support of all the armies of all the countries affected by the hypothetical blockade, you'd basically have to be a superpower to stand a chance. So this is either a bluff, or an elaborate country-scale suicide by cop.

[editline]29th December 2011[/editline] Here is a better picture [t]http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/637939.jpg[/t] You can see the richer townhouses, but you can also seek the less nice looking apartment blocks for the rest of the people [editline]29th December 2011[/editline] You can't really compare that to Tehran [t]http://i31.tinypic.com/2vtvc0n.jpg[/t] [t]http://www.fouman.com/history/img/Tehran_Night_Panorama.jpg[/t]
Uhm, I think that preventing a blockade of a vital trade route that could affect consumer prices and economies around the world is a perfect reason to deploy our military.... Ehh nah I'd rather everyone pay outrageous gas prices during an economical crisis. I mean what business is it of ours to deal with something that could actually affect us this time?
I don't want to pay a few hundred more a year so send thousands of Americans to die! good idea lmao!

Besides, if Americans don't go to war anymore, then in 40 years all the homeless shelters will be empty. Truly horrible.
