A Gold Coast woman was allegedly run over by an Uber driver leaving her hospitalised with a suspected broken leg, a blood clot and several bruises.
Sascha Pangallo booked a car through the ride-sharing app on Friday night "as I do on the daily" when she was leaving work.
But her journey went to hell when her driver "Paul" screamed at her for talking on the phone before trying to pull her from the car and run her over as he fled the scene.
"Yesterday afternoon, I ordered an Uber (as I do on the daily)," Ms Pangallo wrote in a Facebook post on Saturday.
"Little did I know on this particular afternoon I would be stepping into an Uber with a psychotic/mentally unstable driver aka 'Paul'.
"After refusing to put my destination into his GPS he requested my directing (which I had no problem with) however I was on an important phone call and during one of the directions he snapped and screamed at me in a very aggressive manner," the Gold Coast woman wrote.
You never know what you're going to get with the sharing economy...
"Ms Pangallo pondered whether your life is worth more than a cheap Uber ride."
Erm... Implying that every ride with Uber presents the risk of meeting a psycho.
I saw this on one of those todaytonight shows.. She didn't give the driver the address and the driver relied on her directions whilst she was on the phone to a friend.
Sure, there's an acceptable level of behaviour and professionalism, but I don't blame the driver for getting pissed off the person giving him directions not focusing on the task; that could piss anyone off.
It sounds like that guy almost has what it takes to be a regular taxi driver too.

So, that justifies assault?
So, that justifies assault?
I have issues reading, can you please point me to the part of his post that says "the assault was justified"?
He said getting pissed is justified, which it is.

Not according to her.

It's pretty heavily implied there.
It's pretty heavily implied there.
No not really. It was a bit poorly worded as it sounded like he was on the driver's side of the conflict, but he never stated anything about the assault.
It's pretty heavily implied there.
And these posts heavily imply you're trolling, but unlike you I don't presume to be able to read minds.
Sounds like a fucked up accident. Driver got pissed and tried to get her out of the car, and but she was trying to grab her bags and he drove off, accidently pushing her leg under the car and running it over.
Not according to her.
Every source I read agrees with what you quoted from the OP, so I'll be damned.
Well, the driver has made his job unnecessarily difficult by opting for verbal directions instead of GPS when the client was on the phone.
Uber has sacked the driver, like the taxi company before hand did.
Hope he sees some nasty charges laid on him.
Also, to the above posters, I don't condone his actions, but with my former interpretations of the facts I understood reasonable frustration from the circumstance.
This is why i dont trust uber. Any average joe can do it. And i dont trust the average joe
This can happen with anyone. The guy was pissed at her for not giving him directions and talking on the phone. You think taxi drivers are any different professionally than those professional Uber drivers? They're both human and can get mad and act irrational.
Yelling at someone is assault?

No.

Well it does present the risk of meeting a psycho, evidently. Just not a large one.

taxi drivers are pretty average
No not really. It was a bit poorly worded as it sounded like he was on the driver's side of the conflict, but he never stated anything about the assault.
Nah he was totally lightly justifying it.
I guess uber was put into the headline for clicks, really any taxi driver could have done the same.
ban uber for something that happens in the taxi system all the time but is never reported on.
I guess uber was put into the headline for clicks, really any taxi driver could have done the same.
But it happens with an Uber driver at least once a month.

So far where I am taxi drivers have a bad rap for being theives they will drive off with whatever you put in the trunk from luggage, groceries, christmas presents, wheelchairs.
Usually its the taxi drivers getting attacked and killed though.

Taxi drivers have to be certified, get background checks, drug tests, etc. Taxi companies have to follow regulations and can't cheap out on drivers, or they could be fined or sued. Sure they may get pissy, but the likelyhood of a Taxi driver doing anything violent is slim.
Either Uber needs to follow the same regulation as Taxi companies are forced to, or we can drop the regulations so they can compete on fair footing.
