This seems to coincide REALLY well with the news that Valve was expressing interest in eye tracking technology some months ago. http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/03/03/breaking-watch-portal-2-eye-tracking-now/
Portal Gun is over-rated, I want my Gravity Gun.
Portal Gun is over-rated, I want my Gravity Gun.
Gravity Gun and Portal Gun combined.
It's going to be gimmicky. (And never live up to the hype or what they promised) Or bad, like the virtual boy. Or it will be very good (Doubt it really)
you shouldn't expect a product out of Valve anytime soon, if at all
Hah, yep.
Guys, it's really friggin' obvious and you're being blind to it. It's obviously spicket-based technology that you plug into the top of your head! Instant Steam ported straight to your brain!
haha why when there is news about micro/wearable computers etc. everyone goes "omg a pipboy!!" just strap an android to your arm with some velcro and you have a pipboy, dumbass
I shoved my Nokia n800 up my ass and I get WiFi to my brain. 1 step ahead of Valve.
I've always fantasized about some sort of technology that you would wear on your arm! Not really like a one of those clunky huge pip-boy things. but like a small smartphone bracelet thing guy sort of ish!
Tape your smartphone on your wrist, voila!
so much valve news recently are they trying to create a media storm
They just want to hide Half-Life 3 in a sea of misinformation
Maybe they are trying to beat Googles project Glass?
I honestly hate when people type "Valve" as "VALVe". Back on topic, you can't always trust Valve with everything, remember Ricochet?
But Ricochet was actually fun you heretical swine.
If I want to wear my computer I'll put a pair of shoulder straps on it and wear it like a backpack. Be like walking around with one of these:
The amount of videogame grammar nazis in this thread is too damn high.
The amount of videogame grammar nazis in this thread is too damn high.
Seems like every Valve related thread has an argument with people going "No it's spelled VALVe." "Nuh uh it's spelled Valve." "Nuh uh." "Uh huh." "My dad could beat up your dad!" "I'm gonna tell!".
You don't even know how it will work(At this point, not even Valve does), don't make those assumptions.
There aren't that many ways that a wearable computer can work. Either glasses, something on your face, some kind of holographic display or a backpack/chestpack. All of which look pretty stupid. The only current way for the display to be usable would be voice commands (unless it's a chest/backpack, in which case you can use a stylish keyboard suspended in front of you), since we probably won't be able to have workable holographs or any way to connect the thing to someone's brain for a good decade at least, probably more, so I think I'm pretty safe in my assumptions. Also I can assume that you will wear it, and I don't want to wear a computer.

Holy shit, so they're planning to make WEARABLE COMPUTERS? That's so rad, though I still have concerns as to the "muggability" of wearable computers; unlike smartphones they usually aren't in your pocket. Nonetheless, an eye-visor and omni-tool would be pretty rad, especially if combined with augmented reality.

Valve sounds funny when you say it out loud too much valve valve valve valve On topic, I really hope they don't mess this up, and create a modern day virtual boy
Did anyone else feel really inspired by that Blog post?
who the hell wants to wear a computer
Gordon freeman glasses with hl2 hud would be the shit.
who the hell wants to wear a computer
Didn't grow up on sci fi much? Star trek combadge or Babylon 5 comlink for one. Also a video or cellphone watch (I own a video watch myself) http://s.dealextreme.com/search/mp4+watch The problem with the watches from china is the short battery life and it's hard to show your friends videos on your wrist. A pico projetor on your wrist would solve that, but for now I'm satisfied watching a movie on a long bus ride. (the ipod nano touch can be considered also wearible)
So thats why that big cat exec was at Valve
HEV suit
